wkeam is right. No point in getting the DK2 unless you are a collector. The HP WMR can be had for $10 more dollars and will be a drastically better experience. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CSFYJKD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_TADIBbR21ZMT8

Well, shit.

That's the exact model I got and it's $35 cheaper right now. I feel like this is a /r/hailcooperate moment, but that's a pretty great deal if you have a decent comp and wanna try VR.

You can get an HP headset for $150 right now if you're in the US.

This is there one I have

refurbished HP

The best of the WMR sets (this one was on sale last week for $299 so keep your eyes out)

MS recommends this Bluetooth dongle

Note the first two are basically the same: they all are, except for the Samsung which has better screens and manual ipd adjustment. The new version I linked to also has built in Bluetooth so you wouldn't need to worry about a dongle. Again in that price point I recommend Rift, though it's a tossup between way better screens and way better controllers, there :)

Edit: also, run the windows mr test -- you can find it in the windows store. If it says you're good, games like beat saber should run fine

Hard to go wrong this deal, but if you end up getting a Rift and only need one of the sensors, u/bringbacktron is looking for an extra one.

Does this, this or this work?

I'm not sure she'd be up for it though... or for buying a second headset.

Side note, I'm not talking a pimax or vive pro here.

Holy crap, if Lenovo did that to me, I'd just ask them to send it back and see if I can fix it myself. Go watch an ifixit teardown and about 3 hours of any of Louis Rossman's videos.

And if it's completely unrepairable, there's cheaper options.

I'd want to use this headset and the vive controlers since they have better tracking. Less deep blacks, but better resolution and works fine with vive games. It's also be cheaper than repairing the vive headset.

I own 144hz triples, large 4k TV, an HP WMR headset, and previously owned a Rift.

Nothing beats the 144hz refresh rate overall. Everything is silky smooth and you have the maximum fidelity.

Large TV right in front of the wheel can be very immersive and great for just goofing around running some practice laps while drinking etc. The 60hz of the typical TV can be irritating if you're used to 144hz, but its not terrible. 1080p can look pretty rough that big, but 4k looks pretty good.

For immersion, nothing beats VR. The Rift was a little more comfortable and less 'quirky', but the Windows WMR have slightly better detail and are dirt cheap ( On sale as low as ~$100 for refurb headsets).

If you're on the fence and you have at least a 1070 or better, might be worth trying a WMR.

$150 example, note the HP is the heaviest of the WMRs....

No idea on the chance of a Black Friday discount. Would be good if it was $800 with the DAS included.

I own and love my Vive and when talking to PSVR owners I am so glad I have room-scale and good tracking.

However, the Rift is $599AUD normally, and in the Black Friday sales it may drop to $500 and from what I've heard it's really not much worse than the Vive, and you're saving a good chunk of cash.

Also look at WMR headsets.

That'll ship to Aus and converts to about $280 AUD

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07CSFYJKD/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new
That's about $310 AUD.

Also check Gumtree:

The Vive is the best on the market, but it's also the most expensive, so if price is an issue then the other options are worth a look. Especially since it seems you won't be able to take full advantage of large room scale experiences.

Nothing can use Valve's knuckles without the lighthouses (from Vive packages) though.

If you think you will be getting the knuckles or a Pimax in 6-18 months, than the Vive is worth it. If you've never played VR, just want your feet wet and don't have heaps of $$$ to spend, then from what I've heard, WMR is really quite good these days.

Hmm, it does say gamepad support on the steam page. What have you tried doing so far? From what I've read, it seems to just work with an Xbox controller or equivalent

Both of those are about $200ish which is an amazing price for full room scale vr.

What are you on about? No, you won't be able to max out settings, just like you won't be playing in 4k or 240fps. But you'll be able to run the overwhelming majority of VR games at mixed/medium settings without any significant frame drops or issues on a $500-600 PC.

For building a PC, this partlist comes out to $520 - and that's all brand-new parts without significant bargain hunting; if you were seriously building a new PC, you could spend some more time looking for deals on the used market and likely get things even cheaper, or if you spent a little bit more you could get some improvements to turn up more settings ingame.

Then for a headset, you could get HP's WMR headset for $200 as an official refurb, or spend a little more and get a nicer headset like the [Samsung Odyssey] (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Odyssey-Wireless-Controllers-XE800ZAA-HC1US/dp/B078K2S122) for about $300.

Again, that's just brand-new or officially refurbished - on the used market (from a quick 5-minute search) you can find used Rift CV1 bundles (with controllers and sensors) for anywhere from $200-300, or various WMR headsets for $150-250.

You can absolutely get a full VR rig for under $1000.
