There are some sales on Amazon you can check out.

This one has Intel HD5500 graphics.
This one has HD520 which are better.

Those will even run things like Rocket League, which I've player on a laptop with a i5-3370u and HD4000 graphics.

The HP 15-ay011nr 15.6inch laptop is for your daughter, 4.7lbs nice keyboards good reviews. Its simple and work based the battery life is pleasing as well.

u/Fog_Terminator · 4 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Honestly, I think you'd be lucky to get a laptop that can run WoW with low settings and that budget, and its most likely impossible to run it at Mid-High settings. Here's the best I could find:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CGGOZOM

It's a bit over budget ($460), but it should run WoW. If you want to do some more research for yourself, I'd recommend looking at lists like this one, comparing the specs they give to the minimum specs required for WoW. You can use this website to compare the capabilities of different CPUs & GPUs against each other.

A Lenovo Thinkpad would be excellent for you for coding. You however won't get a new one with 1080 resolution in that price range. This HP Notebook 15-ay011nr will do the job very well for you though. It does have a nice performance, solid build ( not as durable as the Thinkpads but okay), nice screen quality and resolution, and a decent enough keyboard for typing continuously.

u/CloningTwoSheep · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

First, before anything Have you taken a look at the quick picks?

Things to note:

You have not really given much about what you're looking to use this laptop for. College laptop is a general term, it can range from running CAD to simple word and web browsing. I assume the Dell 15.6 touch screen is this model Please provide the exact model of the one you have considered as for the Dell Inspiron family has a lot of different models. Most 15.6 inch laptops will be around 4-6 pounds in weight. Touch screens will diminish the battery life of the device faster than one without. On a 15.6 inch laptop, it is preferred to have 1080p as anything less will look blurry.

Keep in mind a performance and battery life are opposites at <$500 price point. Better processing power will require more battery, thus decreasing the battery life.

Some suggestions:

This Asus F555LA-AB31 15.6 in comes with a i3-5010U(2.1ghz) proccessor, 4gb of ram, and a 500gb hard drive at $369.99 dollars. This battery life is around 4-5 hours. (Realistically 3-4 hours)

This HP W2M75UA#ABA 15.6 in offers a i5-6200u processor(2.3ghz), 8gb of ram and a 1tb hard drive/or 128gb ssd(same price) at $459.99 dollars This has a 7 hour 15min battery life. (Realistically 6 hours average).

u/Michiganders · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

The HP 15 for $460 is an excellent option to look into. You can get it with either a 1TB HDD or 128GB SSD for $460. It comes with a skylake i5 processor, 8gb of ram, and intel 520 graphics.

It has a full HD 1080p screen like you desire, can come with an SSD (but only 128GB, you can upgrade that if you want though), it would easily be powerful enough for heavy browsing, and it's pretty light and slim for a 15 inch at 4.6 pounds.

u/1new_username · 2 pointsr/smallbusiness

You can get new laptops that will fully meet your needs for under $500 each

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01CGGOZOM/

If you can't afford that, these refurbished aren't bad at $250

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01MD1S7SX

Get office 365 so it will only be $10 per user per month, which will be a lot lower upfront cost.

Instead of leasing, get a credit card with either a low/zero interest intro purchase rate or low/zero interest balance transfer rate for a year and put the $2500-$5000 on that. If you can't pay that off in a year, your business likely has bigger issues. Even at normal credit card rates, if you you could pay it off in a month or two, you would come out way ahead vs any leasing arrangement you can find.

This baby

My take on HP: I personally like Dell, Asus and MSI because I'm a budget laptop gamer (3 things that don't go well together). The reason I don't like them is because they make gaming laptops with horrible architecture. They'll place the GPU and CPU an inch apart which can lead to temperatures of upto 70° C while gaming and can reduce the life of your laptop.

The thing is that if it's not a gaming laptop they're pretty much the best company out there, their laptops are thin, light, feel very premium and look amazing with good performance. Since you'll be going to conferences and meeting I recomend this sexy beast.

It has a 13" matte screen, this means reduced glare in brightly lit environments.

It has a fast processor, 2 GHz, and is fanless so it's completely silent.

8 gigs of RAM should help with your Photoshop and will overall allow it to handle many processes at once without lag.

A 256 GB upgrade SSD means it's as thin as paper and just as light, plus it'll boot up in a millisecond and will launch applications like a 16 year old with premature ejaculation having sex for the first time.

The other recommendation is this.

It's more powerful with a Terabyte HDD and an a Skylake Intel i5 processor but it's also heavier and isn't fully silent like the zenbook.

It's beautiful but not as hot, it still looks very good though.

It's not as thin.

It's screen is larger.

It also has 8 GB of RAM.

SUM UP

The first one is lighter, cooler, silent and better looking.

The second one is more powerful and can store 3½ times more.

The first one boots up faster.

The second one has a larger screen.

Pick your poison. (Am I using the idiom correctly? Pls tell 😞)

Edit: Note that they are both very light, though the zenbook (the first one) is as light if not lighter than a Mac air.

Edit: Note that they're both quite powerful, considering they're HP and their weight, price etc. and you won't actually feel a power difference when using then so the main variables you need to choose between are:

  • Weight
  • Looks
  • Storage
  • Screen size
u/Jackoosh · 2 pointsr/me_irl

It's true you can't find one twice as powerful at that pricepoint, but you could still find an equivalent laptop for around $400. This one has a better CPU, the same amount of RAM (though it's DDR3L, and while Apple doesn't actually specify on their website what kind of RAM they have I'm assuming they're on DDR4 at this point. Either way RAM speed isn't that important for the kind of work you're doing on a laptop), the same Intel HD Graphics and a tradeoff in terms of storage (1TB HDD vs 512GB SSD) over the lowest end (and cheapest) Macbook Air. And you get 3 USB ports (one of which is 3.0) as well as a DVD drive, neither of which are even offered on Macs.

That was after about 2 minutes of searching too; imagine how much better you can do with the same amount of money you'd spend on a macbook and more time.

u/Swazzleman · 2 pointsr/Twitch

Okay so after some research, that laptop seems to have some problems... Everywhere i've looked it has 2-3 stars. Here are some good laptops for the price, and to be completely honest, the clock speed of the CPU does not matter much for what you're going to be doing with it.

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575G-57D4

Display: 1920x1080

CPU: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

RAM: 8 GB

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX 2GB

HP 17.3" HD Premium High Performance Laptop

Display: 1600x900

CPU: 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7

RAM: 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM 1600MHz

GPU: Intel Integrated Graphics

HP Notebook 15-ay011nr 15.6-Inch Laptop

Display: 1920x1080

CPU: 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5

RAM: 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM

GPU: Intel Integrated Graphics

I would choose between these 3. The integrated graphics doesn't really matter if you aren't going to be encoding with the GPU so don't let that put you down. I would personally go with the first choice just because it's a well rounded laptop. 2.5GHz with a 940MX. But it's entirely your choice! :) Hope this helps!

u/mynthe · 2 pointsr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Sam, Sam, how does this one compare to the Dell that I showed you earlier?

u/haloelites7 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

here are the highest system specs listed for both games

Processor: 1.8 GHz Quad Core CPU
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: 512 MB ATI 4800 series or better, 512 MB nVidia 9800 series or better

Now these are recommended and not required. I know that an integrated graphics card can run Civ 5 (which is the more intensive game), as I have friends that play Civ 5 on just a regular laptop.

Overall you may not even need a good gaming laptop for those games, especially if you run Civ 5 using Direct X 9 instead of 10 or 11.

TL;DR: Something similar to this (though by all means do your own research with the required specs of the game) should work. https://www.amazon.com/HP-Notebook-15-ay011nr-15-6-Inch-Processor/dp/B01CGGOZOM/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1473553696&sr=1-2&keywords=laptop&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A7817223011%2Cp_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A2289793011

u/techneeeq · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

This HP 15-ay011nr laptop would do a great job for you in the task that you DO. It has a decent core i5 processor, nice memory as well as storage and a decent battery life. It also has a full 1080 resolution which would be very good for you especially when watching high resolution movies. It also weights under 5 lbs which makes it very portable- so carrying it to school won't be a problem.

Storage should be 200 GB ? I am sorry, but this has a 1000 GB storage..I am assuming more in this case is far better though.

u/poetryrocksalot · 2 pointsr/laptops

That's a good deal considering it's an i7. Here was my recommendation for a another thread at the 500 price range.

http://www.amazon.com/HP-15-ay011nr-Full-HD-Generation-Windows/dp/B01CGGOZOM/?tag=tdrvr-20

i5, 8gb rams, win 10, 1920x1080 resolution compared to the 1366x768 on yours. I suspect games run well because you are running on low resolution. I do like the i7 though.

OP's laptop is a good choice 256 gb ssd is good for work. But gpu needs to set lower screen resolution under 1080p to play the division. It also has a backlit keyboard which neither the PCs we recommend have.

u/netflix7chill · 2 pointsr/finance

I am using a older version of this and it has been running great. I really like using the number pad on it.

Check here if your university offers Home use program . You can get MS office for 10$.

If you want a real cheap laptop then i have seen people use this but the processor is a bit old.

Even cheaper, You can pretty much pick up any sub $250 PC and wont find much difference for Excel use.

u/paperkeyboard · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Any new laptop can play Minecraft, even cheap low end ones. If money is an issue, something like this could easily play minecraft: Amazon Link. If they want to go with something better: Amazon Link 2 or Amazon Link 3. However, neither of these are gaming laptops. If all he's playing is minecraft, by the time he moves on to more graphically intense games, his laptop (gaming or otherwise) will probably be outdated anyways. But here is a good entry level gaming laptop: Amazon Link 4

u/construktz · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

There's a few ways you can go with this.

If you want to game as well, you'd be best adding another $50 to your budget for the Acer Aspire E15-575G.

It advertises 12 hour battery life, has Nvidia 940MX dedicated graphics, and has a 256GB SSD. It'd serve you well in all you did.

If you want to knock the price down more, the HP Notebook 15-ay011nr would keep you under the $500 price point, but you'd lose the dedicated graphics, SSD, and a bunch of battery life. It still has a 1080p display, it-6200U, and 8GB RAM though.

u/Lipty · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

https://www.amazon.com/HP-Notebook-15-ay011nr-15-6-Inch-Processor/dp/B01CGGOZOM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1469256327&sr=8-2&keywords=core+15+laptop

That would sort of OK. I played l4d2 and CS:GO on my old Intel HD 4000 laptop and they ran fine at around 40-50 FPS at 1366x768. Skylake integrated graphics should preform similarly or slightly better.

u/Orangematz · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

That Acer Chromebook 14 is a pretty good choice.

Or if you prefer Windows, this is good, but is 15".

u/Kirby5588 · 2 pointsr/SSBPM

Would not recommend laptops. Building a desktop is cheaper but if you really want a laptop that plays PM look into an i5.

This is the cheapest one I could find and I know for a fact it can play PM at fullspeed because I have the same i5 in my laptop.

EDIT: One thing to note when getting a laptop like this is that it comes with a 5400rpm HDD, which will be slower than desktop HDDs youre used too. Best bet is to replace it with a 7200rpm HDD or just get a SDD. (I'd go with SDD because you'll notice a huge increase in speed)

Hey guys. So since I've gotten my new CMOS Camera, trying to run software on my Mac/Windows BootCamp has been a nightmare. I am thinking about just pulling the trigger and getting a PC strictly for acquisition, mainly to run SGP. Processing will still most likely be done on Mac with Pixinsight.

So I am no PC expert, but I believe I would need around 4-8 GB RAM (For fast download) and at least one USB3 port. I found these two cheap options. Please let me know if you think either of these would work, or maybe suggest something else. Also, I am using a ZWO ASI1600MM and a ZWO ASI120MC for my guide cam. Both use USB3, but I guess I could connect my guide came to my main cam. But maybe I need 2 USB3, but I guess I could also use a hub, correct?

First option, 8 GB RAM, 1TB, but 2 USB2 and only one USB3, do I need more than one USB3? I know I can use hubs too - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01CGGOZOM/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491789626&sr=1-1&refinements=p_n_feature_five_browse-bin%3A7817224011&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=hp+laptop&dpPl=1&dpID=41Yv8ZhfQbL&ref=plSrch

Second option, cheaper, only 4GB RAM, but 2 USB3 and 1 USB2 - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XSLZR69/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1491790009&sr=8-2-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=hp+laptop&psc=1&smid=AV5VC8NZQFXC6

Edit, third option: 8 GB RAM, 256 SSD, 3 USB3 (One C port, what does that mean?) and one USB2. Seems like this might be the best option actually. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01DT4A2R4/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8

Hmm, first off I'm gonna help you and not give you any shit laptops with 720p. I spent about $700. USD on mine and it doesn't have full HD. Bad call on my part.

From my brief resesrch, I found this guy from HP. It has decent reviews us 8GB of ram and skylake i5. From what I can see, this is your best bet for your budget. I have a haswell i5 and Integrated graphics can play some older titles okay at 720 (HL2, borderlands). Oh, and A DVD Drive! Mine doesn't have that!

u/PC509 · 1 pointr/WGU

Check Techbargains. There are usually some great Lenovo laptops on sale (or Dell, if you want). Some are some extremely good deals. I'm an Intel guy, so I'll recommend them. AMD has some good CPU's out there, too, especially for a budget.

$500 can get a pretty decent laptop. If you need to up the road and have an extra $100, you can always upgrade to an SSD and see an increase in speed (makes a huge difference).

Similar items, but the 71 has 8 GB RAM (versus 6GB on the 75), 1 TB hard drive (versus 500GB on the 75), and is touch screen. Not sure the 75 is a touch screen. Both run the same processor.

Seems like the 71 is worth the extra $70 while still staying under $500.

I'd likely get something like this Lenovo with an i7-7500U, if it's available near you. Otherwise, something like this HP with an i5-6200U is almost certainly going to be fine.

Maybe $400 is a bit of a stretch, but definitely less than $500 will get you a totally decent laptop for streaming. You really don't need a new i7 desktop to just put out a decent image, especially for something like a church service which doesn't really require the most amazing image quality.

Yeah anything at i5 or higher should be fine. You dont even need 8 GB of ram either, I had a old system that has 4 GB of DDR3 and I can smoothly stream on it. The link above is like the best can you for 600.

This one is also good, for your price range. Hope I helped! (:

I'll be honest with you, $400 is not a lot of money to get a decent laptop. Attempting to buy one that's less that 15.6 inches will hurt your maximum specs on the laptop even more. The smaller/thinner the device(ultra book standards), the more expensive a faster CPU and Ram will cost. In addition, touch screen will add around $100 on average to the cost of the laptop.

With that being said, I have seen the Lenovo Flex 3 myself. Although it is a nice portable machine and would be OK for light browsing and maybe some word documents, it is nowhere near the capacity necessary to run Minecraft at 40 FPS. It lags when opening up more than a few(5) tabs on Windows edge browser.

I would suggest for you to look at the quick picks.

For a gaming laptop, the most reccomended one is this Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E555 This is a 15.6 720p display. This features a AMD Quad-Core A10-7300 clocked at 1.90/3.20 ghz, 4gbs of Ram(which is easily upgradable to 8gbs with only $17), 500gb (5400 RPM) Hard drive. The key point about this device is it has a dedicated graphics card (AMD Radeon R7 M260 2gb) unlike the following laptops and will not share that with the CPU. This is priced at $400 exactly. $417 if you upgrade the ram with a 4gb laptop ram.

This Asus F555LA has a full hd 15.6 inch screen. It also has a 5th gen i3 clocked at 2.1ghz, 4gb of ram and 500gb(5400 RPM) hard drive. This is currently $369.99.

At exactly $400, the Asus x555DA-US11 is another recommended laptop. It features a full HD display just like the previous, but it has a AMD A10-8700p, 8gb of ram and 1tb HDD(5400 RPM).

If you have an extra $60 dollars to spend on top of $400, the best you can get would be this HP 15-ay011nr. It has a full hd display like the previous two. In addition, it has an 6th gen i5 clocked at 2.3ghz, 8gb of ram, and a 1tb(5400 RPM) hard drive. Priced at $460

You do realize you listed a Chromebook, right? If you're planning on doing anything other than surfing the web, you need a regular computer, unless you plan on installing Ubuntu or another version of Linux.

What is your budget? Where do you live?

EDIT: I don't know your budget but if you don't want to spend a bunch of money, I found this HP Notebook 15-ay011nr 15.6-Inch Laptop for $459.99.

> convenience and ease of a console

Like not having to download patches and updates, like having a system that just works..unless you unplug it and it requires a needed update so you best get on the internet again.

Consoles arent consoles anymore. They're neutered laptops. If the "Amazing east and convenience of a console" will entice people to not just buy a laptop that works better, smoother, and is a stronger machine while allowing them to do more than a console then what TYCooper said means everythings fine.

Edit: Forgot price, you know that 500$ price for an Xbone Or 500$ for this which can run everything the xbone can and more and more smoothly.
