I've used these water spikes before, http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002558KJQ?pc_redir=1412322382&robot_redir=1#immersive-view_1412619451790 however I was warm that the cannabis plant actually wants the soil to fully dry before the next watering.

Does this hold fact?

Hydrospikes. I have been using them for the past 3 weeks with good results.

I use hydrospikes and it changed my life

Edit: I traveled a fucking LOT in my career (travel nurse) so I’m allowed to act like an expert on this one

That would suggest to me that the pot it is in isn't big enough, but I don't have a lot of experience with container tomatoes.

I would suggest switching to a simple automated watering system such as this. You can make home made versions out of shoe strings or similar material as well.

The ceramic spikes go into the plant container and then connected by a tube to a water source. You fill up the spike and tube initially. As the soil dries up in the container it wicks water out of the spike and that creates a suction that pulls more water out. So after the initial setup all you do is make sure the water source has water. A large enough source can last for weeks/months.

It keeps the soil at a constant level which is good for tomatoes as dry/wet cycles will cause your tomatoes to split :/

A few days ago, someone mentioned filling up sandwich ziploc bags and poking a pin sized hole to make a crude drip system. I see no reason for this not to work for you, maybe a decent amount of bags. Placed very smartly.

Or have a friend do something simple every couple days for you. Assuming peppers are the only thing you're growing, confidentiality isn't a big concern.

If you have a few days before you travel, you can buy this:

Or these:

I've used the first one with great short term results (3-14 days) but can malfunction easily if used as the only long term means of watering. I wish you luck!

We used these while we were gone for 9 days last month and they worked wonderfully! They were the only devices I could find that had the potential for keeping my garden alive without engineering an electronic watering system. The downside is that they are kind of pricey depending on how many you need and the highest water level in the jug of water needs to be LOWER than the tip of the spike (in the ground). So I'm guessing these won't work for you unless you dig a bunch of holes in the ground for water jugs.

i love home automation but i don't think i'll ever automate my plants watering. we leave for up to 3 weeks at a time and usually just put an inch of water in the bottom of the tub and put the plants in there. haven't lost a plant yet. there's also solutions like these watering spikes

It's all about getting the correct flow rate. I find that these spikes work really well. They offer more flexibility because you leave the reservoir below the plant.

Whatever your setup, make sure to test it for a couple of days before you go on vacation. I use mine all the time and I just refill the reservoir every month or two. Lazy man's way to keep a house plant.

I have this which is essentially what the blumat system does. However, instead of a drip, the spike itself is moist and draws water from the reservoir. Both these systems however will keep the soil moist, which is bad for the plants in the long run as it will be prone to root rot and poor aeration.

>Looks like you may be watering it too much. Over-watering will also cause the leaves to wilt. Some people see the wilt, and water more. THIS KILLS THE PLANT.

I think the wilting might be because the plant has grown far too large for the pot that it's in.

The plant has been watered by the exact same siphon system forever and it's been fine. Something like this -- is that OK?

I'll try the rest of the advice, thanks!

Just so you know, these Hydrospikes do work, even when the power goes out. Just put a reservoir beneath the plant, prime the spikes, insert them and done.
