CS:GO fiend of a husband reporting in here. I would skip on the in-game items personally. They can be quite forgettable no matter how awesome they are initially. A new piece of hardware like a new headset - http://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-PS4/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ - would probably be much more appreciated.

u/Ravinac · 31 pointsr/buildapc

I like my Hyper X Clouds. Super comfy to wear for log periods, good sound range, and the mic quality is pretty good. I am by no means an audiophile, so I might get some flak, but for the price I don't think they can be beat. For about $30 more you can get the Cloud II that have surround sound.

u/Trimodic · 20 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

The XM3 are the best wireless headphones on the planet in literally every aspect you are looking for besides gaming id say. But for the possible upcoming XM4, I am not sure what to say towards that. Obviously it’ll be better, but by how much and if that much is worth waiting another several months, especially till possibly AFTER your upcoming flights in August.

As for gaming, if it’s PC or console, get yourself a good HyperX headset since your budget is $450. I really have no idea how the XM3s handle gaming. But I own the XM3s and they are the absolute best you can get with wireless ANC headphones. If you are NEEDING a pair of amazing headphones, get the XN3s now. But if it absolutely isn’t necessary and you can wait; wait for the XM4.

"Best set of headphones" is a very hard thing to answer. It really depends on what you want to use them for. If it's just for gaming without a mic, I would recommend Philips L2BO/27 Fidelio Headphones.

They come with an in-line mic, but the cable is detachable and can be replaced with any 3.5mm male-to-male cable.

As others have said, if you want one with a pretty decent mic and great audio, you could try the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset.

Both of these will give you great audio, and will plug directly into the DS4 without the need for a headphone amp.

Of course these are just what I use, and just something you may want to add to your list for consideration. There may be some better choices out there.

Regards!

To begin with, I'd rate most TV sound experiences ~ 3/10.

If you're on a budget, for less than $50 the Xbox One Stereo Headset will get you omnidirectional sound and enchance you're experience quite a bit. I'd rate the sound experience 6/10. https://amzn.com/B00IAVDQCK

If you can spend $100, buy the Cloud II's. They're considered HiFi and they're amazing quality. Sound experience 8/10. https://amzn.com/B00SAYCXWG

If you can spend $230, buy the Cloud II's and the MixAmp Pro TR, which gives you access to 7.1 Surround Sound and maximizes the Cloud II's potential. Phenomenal sound experience 11/10. https://amzn.com/B014H2YSEK

I am speaking from my own personal experience with each.

If you want to stick with a headset, I hear the Hyper Cloud X link sounds really good for the money. Otherwise you're better off going with a good set of headphones and separate mic. The /r/headphones subreddit has a good write up on headsets, headphones, and microphones on their sidebar. I ended up with the Beyerdynamic DT 990s and a mod mic as my go to for gaming. The Beyerdynamic DT 880s are starting to take their place though.

u/CrimsonRFox · 6 pointsr/MercyMains

I've personally come to terms with Comp. Im a solo and unless i make a team or find a team willing to work with me im hardstuck in gold if i ever attemp to solo Comp. And im a good Mercy Main by most standards. I just cant carry 5 players with their own agenda to not work with the team.

Like most of the Advice threads here. the biggest thing players will tell you is Positioning. And situational awareness is key in this gmae for Mercy mains.

Another thing that isnt mentioned is Hardware. What platform are you on? It may help to invest in grips if you are on console. and a good mouse if you are on PC.
But it will help you a lot if you can hear the game and enemies better.
Even though there is a game breaking sound bug on all platforms right now, its still useful to invest in a good or top of the line gaming headset to hear everything with. Especially if you are on console. Get a headset wit 5.1 surround sound or better and make sure it works properly. (i believe 7.1 surround sound is a gimmick right now and doesnt work on OW so try to avoid headsets with that if they offer it as the only option for the headset).
If you need a few recommendations Let me know. I personally use Hyper X cloud II without the 7.1 and they are great. Only problem is Overwatch sounds have been deteriorating for a year now and until the devs fix this its sometimes a RNG game of winning or losing a match all because of sound bugs.

Once you have good positioning and situational awareness. which you probably do after 2+years of playing. you have to focus on damage boosting or healing and Value of Life or deaths. DMG/Healing comes down to your teams comp, if you are on defense or attack, whos playing better then others/ carrying the team, and if you can communicate or read your team or the enemy team.

From my personal experience right now Mercy is probably the 3rd best healer overall and 4th best healer per team comp and skill. Being out healed by Moira then Lucio(3rd is Brigitte), which is a sad state to see her in. Mercy is not a good healer compared to a good moira healer. Just the other day i had a moira out heal me by 6000+(13901/44% to 7477) and that made me feel useless.
Not saying Mercy isnt viable anymore but she really needs that 55HPS buff the entire community has been in agreement with. And she can still outheal most supports if you try hard enough.

Now that its forced 2-2-2 and you are in silver. I would say focus more on Healing if they pick a off support or Ana. And focus on Damage boosting if they pick a main support like Moira Baptiste. And Lucio if hes healing a lot or team is grouped up.
It does change depending on how skilled the other healer is but if you are not sure in a match its usually better to keep healing then damage boost imo.

VoL/Value of Life.
This is probably the hardest thing to figure out for most supports and Mercy players in general because mercy has the ability to carry the team until shes dead then the whole team usually dies shortly after. This is when you know your doing good even though you died(probably because incompetent teammates).
At all costs try to stay alive. I try to stay at 3 deaths or lower per match. This changes to 6 on control point maps if i have to go 3 rounds. So in total in comp you shouldnt be going over about 8 deaths per game. and for each death you should have healed at least 2000 to 3000.
Any higher number of deaths and you might have positioning problems and are not using Mercy's mobility to the fullest.

.

For now thats all im gonna type up. Sorry for ranting in some of that.
Anyway you should try to stream or record some of your gameplay for us so we can help you focus on the mistakes you might be making. And help with them. Also if you need me to go in depth into things like which heroes you should heal or boost or when to Ult and stuff, let me know. i'd be happy to try and help you out if i can.

Second. I've had the the red cloud 2 for over a year now and they are magical. They are very comfortable, lightweight and the microphone does a pretty good job of blocking background noise.

u/Gurmooq · 5 pointsr/PS4

The Hyperx Cloud 2s are great, comfortable for long sessions, sound good and the mic is alright.

u/Cmmdrpudintater · 5 pointsr/Vive

I have been using this headset for the past year or so for everything. I can't speak highly of it enough. It also has a detachable microphone, so I use it for on the go as well.

u/jaykresge · 5 pointsr/buildapc

Gaming Headsets are generally really bad. They take a poor quality headphone, a poor quality microphone, add in a "gamer" aesthetic, and overcharge for it. Most will suggest that you get a separate headphone and microphone for the best quality, but I understand that some just want the convenience of a combined kit.

In this case, the Hyper X Cloud and Cloud II are without peer. They are the only ones at or below $100 that can compete with standalone $100 headphones, and the mics aren't garbage. Avoid the Cloud Core and Cloud Revolver.

u/Elseyyy · 5 pointsr/dayz

If you're willing to extend your budget by $10 or maybe look around for a cheaper offer I'd personally recommend the [HyperX Cloud II] (https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-PS4/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1473173220&sr=1-2&keywords=hyperx+cloud+2) headset. Both a couple of my group and I use it and have never had any problems with hearing even faintest of foot steps in-game or communicating over both in game comms and outside programmes such as TS and Discord.

u/thatHRguy83 · 4 pointsr/xboxone

On Amazon this is the cheapest price it has been so far.

I've never used them myself, but the HyperX Clouds are very well regarded and retail for under $100.

If you want to spend a little more, the Sennheiser Game Ones are also fantastic for sub $200. I have a pair myself and I couldn't be happier with them.

I did a lot of research before buying the Game Ones and I believe that both of the headsets listed above are better regarded than any of Astro's offerings.

Edit: Just reread your post and noticed that you were looking specifically for wireless :/

Get a Kingston HyperX Cloud for a headset. It is mean for all platforms and devices so you can use it anywhere. It also has very good build and sound quality. The newer model has 7.1 surround sound and good stereo along with an even better microphone than the previous model. I am speaking from experience.

u/LalaCalamari · 3 pointsr/xboxone

Any gaming headset will do. What's your budget?

Kingston makes some really nice headsets that aren't too expensive that sound fantastic. Check out the Kingston HyperX Cloud ($76), HyperX Cloud II ($95) and the HyperX Cloud Revolver ($120).

Currently I'm using the Sennheiser Game Zero and love them but they're at $190 and a little pricey.

u/Stark33 · 3 pointsr/wow

Second on the HyperX Cloud Gaming Headsets.

I've used other headsets in a comparable price range in the past and the HyperX ones are durable, comfortable and functional.

u/Bobmcguire · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Can anyone give their opinion on the best gaming headset for under $200 CAD? The two I'm leaning towards right now are the HyperX Cloud II and SteelSeries Arctis 7.

Is the SteelSeries one really worth the extra money? I don't have audiophile ears, just want clear sound, clear mic, and most importantly comfort while wearing them for long durations.

Edit: Also have a relatively big head I guess so that would be important for comfort.

u/WalkingCasino · 3 pointsr/Edmonton

These are my headphones https://www.amazon.ca/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-PS4/dp/B00SAYCXWG

What would an aficionado such as yourself have to say about them.

u/coololly · 3 pointsr/buildapc

You dont need a sound card!

They are pretty much useless!

Use the money you would have spent on a sound card on a better headset! that is a crappy generic "gaming headset"

Go for something like this:

I use hyperx cloud 2, it comes with a 7.1 virtual surround sound USB Adapter. I'm about to start using the hyperx cloud alpha. The audio drivers are specially made so all of the sounds do get blasted into one way and it allows you to actually discern sounds better. Not on sale it's $100, right now it's $69.99. got a lot of mileage out of the headset and the cable is braided. I do recommended using the adapter that comes with it (or buying an L shaped 3.5mm adapter) so the cable doesn't get bent over time when you hold the controller if you hover it over your stomach.

I use the Hyper X Cloud II headset. Amazon link Don't worry about the price, it's often on sale on Amazon for maybe 60 bucks.

I've tried a couple of different headsets and they all pinched my ears. The Hyper X is sooo soft, it covers my whole ear and is like a soft cushion around it. I'd recommend it a hundred times, also for its quality all around.

Boom

u/Ganrokh · 3 pointsr/WorkOnline

I've been working from home for a little under two years now. My setup is a little pricey, but I've paid for it working completely online, so that's a nice feeling.

I currently don't have a desk (won't have room until I move in with my girlfriend in a few months), so I work on a laptop for now. The laptop is a gaming laptop. I have a gaming laptop because, I'm not looking to simply "work" for an income. During the day, I work online while my laptop mines a cryptocurrency in the background. Crypto mining has definitely been a profitable venture for me. In the evening, I stream for a few hours on Twitch. I'm not a big established streamer, but I've made a little bit of income from streaming.

Because of not having a desk, I don't really have room for a second screen. However, I do have a Acer R11 Chromebook that I usually keep a couple Chrome tabs open to monitor various things. The touch screen is really nice as well.

My mouse is a Razer Naga. I am a man of efficiency and I believe that, for online workers like ourselves who are usually getting paid by getting work done and not by the hour, efficiency and productivity are key. The keypad on the side of the mouse work wonders. Being able to program different keys and even scripts to them is amazing. Some people prefer the Logitech equivalent to it.

The headset is going to ultimately come down to personal preference. There are many, many different headsets out that that come in all sorts of shapes and styles. Do you want over-the-ear? On-ear? Do you want the band to go over the head? Behind the head? Do you need a wireless headset because you have kids at home and you need to get up often? Reviews may not be too reliable as well. For example, with gaming headsets, if you go to any gaming forum or subreddit and ask about gaming headsets, people will have you believe that the HyperX Cloud II Headset is the greatest headset put on God's green earth. It just wasn't for me. It was a little tight on my head and the audio was a bit too "in my head", which gave me headaches. I much prefer the Astro A40 TR Headset.

Finally, you're going to want to protect your eyes. If you work online, you're going to be staring at a screen for hours on end. If you're looking at a screen, you're exposed to artificial blue light. Artificial blue light is meant to emulate sunlight. Exposing your eyes to it will strain your eyes, which can disrupt your sleeping patterns, cause headaches, elevate stress, etc. That's only in the short term. In the long term, well, screens emitting blue light haven't been around long enough yet, so we don't really know what the long term effects of it is. Still, you need to protect your eyes. There are a handful of companies that make glasses designed to specifically filter out blue light. When I used to wear specific glasses for this, my preferred brand was Gunnar Optiks. I say "used to wear" - I had to get prescription glasses recently and my eye doctor offered blue light protection in my glasses. I believe it's called "Prevencia". If you have to wear prescription glasses, ask about it next time you see your eye doctor.

Hope this helps!

Edit: I forgot to mention F.lux. F.lux is a program that reduces the amount of blue light your screen emits based on the time of day, emulating a sunset. At night, it gives your screen a red/orange lighting. At night, after the sun has set and F.lux kicks on on my screen, I take my glasses off. It's a very nice program.

HyperX Cloud II are highly recommended by this community. Picked one up for myself a few weeks ago and they are great, very comfortable for long gaming sessions

Here is amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Gaming-Headset-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1494099812&sr=8-2&keywords=hyperx+cloud+2

u/Jyorin · 3 pointsr/leagueoflegends

Quite honestly, I've had a few different headsets and stuff...

Hyper X Cloud II - They feel amazing. Let me effing tell you omg. They are the most comfortable headset I've ever had. I'd use them for 12 - 18 hours at a time (I don't really sleep :s) and they never make my ears hurt, I didn't get hot with them on, and they didn't press against my glasses on the side. They were perfect for not hearing external sounds. I loved this about them! Sadly, the mic on it is quiet but the sound on it was decent. I got them when they were first released and the quality was good. Mine finally died on me earlier this year and I bought another... I was disappointed. I think, despite ordering it new on Amazon, the seller sent me a refurbished set (the headband was not the same that comes on the HXC2) so I sent it back. It's priced at around $80 - $90 if I'm not mistaken. They are USB wired and come with it's own external sound card for 7.1 surround sound. Side note: I'm sad they don't sell the pink and white ones anymore :(

https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-KHX-HSCP-RD/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hyperx+cloud+ii&qid=1568125693&s=gateway&sr=8-1

Hyper X Cloud Stinger (Wireless) - I'm still conflicted about this headset. The sound is decent, though I use the Razer Synapse software to boost it and it sounds a lot better. The mic is pretty good. They are extremely lightweight and just as comfy as the HXC2. The product CLAIMS to have a 17h battery for the headset. Pure lie. Mine stay charged MAYBE 5-7h if I'm lucky. It pisses me off. The wireless range is pretty good. I can walk downstairs and still hear / talk to people so I think it's probably around.. 20 - 30 feet or so? I hate that it's swivel to mute, I feel like this is just something that will eventually break. The mic is very flexible though. The volume control is on the right ear which isn't bad I suppose. If no sound has been played through them, they will automatically cut off to preserve battery after about 15-20 minutes which is a nice feature. The charging cord is an okay length, but if your tower / closest USB port isn't close to where you sit, don't expect it to reach. You can use them while charging though so that's nice. They do not muffle outside noise (for listening) except a tiny bit. I'm okay with this. I -hate- the dongle that comes with it. It's too big. It's the size of a regular 2GB usb thumb drive. Not a big deal but since I plug mine into my front ports and my tower is in front of me, I end up kicking it sometimes, lol... The ear cuffs swivel 90°, I find the feature stupid and useless but I'm sure someone out there loves it. However, they are cheap. I think $50 or so. I think one of the cheapest wireless headsets that's a brand, but I'm not sure.

The other headset I've tried is the Astro A40. It's about $130 dollars and... Well I thought I liked it at first, but when I went to write my Amazon review on it, I second guessed a lot of it's "features" that were actually just money gouges. I'll just link you to my review for it but in short, I like the sound quality, it's comfortable but I feel like the ear cushions make me a bit not, nothing too bad. The mic is good though! You can put the mic on either side of your head as there is a hole in each ear piece (covered by the tags) and the tags are interchangeable per side and easy to take off as they attach via magnets.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2V7XOZ038UU6C/ref=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B07NSRYDH9

The mouse that I currently use for league is the Mad Catz M.M.O.T.E, why? Because I honestly though I needed a mouse with 15 buttons. I don't. I use maybe 3 other than the standard ones. I love how much I can adjust it's dpi but it seems to have issues that may or may not happen to you. After a year it started to double or triple click w/ left mouse button. I thought it was the mouse itself, turns out it was Windows, or possibly just Windows 7. The issue went away when I upgraded to Windows 10, proof it wasn't the mouse itself but possibly a driver. The company was bought out by Logitech and it's hard to find the software for it so... I don't really recommend this one at all, but it's comfy and adjustable, with lots of customization via the software. I'm not sure if you can find them anymore but the only one I see on Amazon is the tournament edition for $90. I wouldn't pay $90 for this considering there is no way to take advantage of the warranty on it. I only paid $40. I think the DPI ranges from 25 - 8.2k and you can adjust it individually for left to right and up to down. I've owned the Mad Catz 3 and played with a Mad Catz 7 or so. The 7 was nice, very simple though.

I've tried a Havit HV... something
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KKAQYXM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Very, very cheap gaming mouse but it's actually good. The DPI isn't as adjustable as the mouse above, There are 4 set DPI levels, but it lights up, so I got it. I don't have any complaints about it other than having set DPI levels, it's a pretty simple mouse.

I got to try out the Ajazz Wireless Gaming Mouse. I like it overall, it's probably not good for people with larger hands as it is a slimmer mouse. You can customize it in a lot of ways. You can play with it wired if you want as it has a very nice cord length, the dongle is short and discreet. I'm a sucker for lights so I loved being able to change the colors on it, though not all colors appear as vibrant as others. It's $28

I've had bad experiences with Logitech headsets and Turtle Beaches so I don't even bother trying their brands anymore. That was a few years back though. I've been told that Logitech has improved but I won't be trying it on my own dime >:[
I don't bother a special gaming monitor or keyboard because I'm a cheap ass bitch. So I can't help you there, lol...I currently have a dual monitor set up but the monitors are nothing special or gaming specific, mine are standard 60hz. Though, from the comments, it seems 144hz is the way to go.

HyperX - Cloud II Pro are solid for the 100$ price tag. Got them as an upgrade and really enjoying them. Can be used for xbox with 3.5mm and pc with 3.5mm or usb. These are the only ones i have used that are in ur price range and do both pc and xbox. Atros are real nice, but cost above your 150 max budget

I believe a good pair of headphones are just as important as a good monitor. I haven't used them but I've heard a great bang for your buck is the HyperX Cloud 2

u/SmartM0nk3y · 3 pointsr/gaming

I LOVE my hyper x clouds. They are amazing build quality the best I have ever seen in gaming headphones that usally feel like they are made out of super cheap plastic. The sound quality is decent to good 7.1 surround sound. I have heard that the microphone isn't great but I've never heard complaints about mine. Plus they have the greatest review ever!

Why has nobody helped you out yet? Here:

For $40, Kingston just came out with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01AMWBICO/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?qid=1464099457&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=kingston+headset+cloud

For $90, this is the best headset you can buy: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00SAYCXWG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1464099551&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=kingston+headset+cloud&dpPl=1&dpID=41Z3t92Hu6L&ref=plSrch

I have had the $90 one for five months and it is the single best purchase I've made in the past few years. Unmatched quality for the price.

I haven't personally tried the $40 headset, but if you're looking to go for something that won't break the bank while maintaining good quality, I'd shoot for that one.

HyperX CloudX $70: https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-CloudX-Official-Detachable-HX-HS5CX-SR/dp/B07FVWJ6YR/

While it doesnt have a separate voice chat audio control, it has inline physical audio controls to let you mute your mic or adjust game volume on-the-fly.

I was in a similar position as you months ago, and got bombarded with recommendations for the Hyper Cloud 2 $95 (https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-KHX-HSCP-RD/dp/B00SAYCXWG/), which seems to be one of the most popular recommendations here. I dont doubt the Cloud 2's audio quality, but not having inline controls didn't cut it for me, especially with it being $25 more than CloudX's.

I hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck.

u/wolf39us · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

HyperX Cloud II

Otherwise, you should consider a separate mic and good set of cans instead of a headset. Unless you really don't care about audio quality.

u/ubercritical · 2 pointsr/OutreachHPG

I recently bought a pair of HyperX Cloud II's to use with my PS4. They are extremely comfortable and have good sound quality. I have yet to give them a go with my PC because I have a separate DAC/AMP and Sennheiser HD600+ModMic setup but they come with a USB soundcard if that's your thing.

Really happy with the purchase. More than I originally thought I would be, honestly.

The HyperX Cloud I can be had for much cheaper than the Cloud II's and offer roughly the same performance without the inclusion of the USB soundcard. They also have two 3.5mm connections rather than one like the Cloud II's. Both also have a detachable mic.

The HyperX Clouds are based on the QPad QH-90 which is a derivative of Takstar Pro80's but with an added mic.

Options, options!

Help Please
Hey! So I am going to buy a pair of ATH M40x and don't know if I should get it bundled with a Creative Sound Blaster E1 Portable Headphone Amplifier. I would like to know if it will work together with the 7.1 virtual surround sound dongle that came with my HyperX Cloud 2 headset. So basically, will i get the performance from this DAC to work with the HyperX Cloud 2 headset while still maintaining the 7.1 surround sound. Here is a link to the headset: http://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-PS4/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451792328&sr=8-1&keywords=hyperx+cloud+2 . If you could take a look at my headset and provide some help that is specific to my setup, I would appreciate it. Thanks guys.

u/JavaDavidson · 2 pointsr/headphones

I've heard good things about the HyperX Cloud IIs. They don't fit your "open" criteria, but really not a lot of open headphones would, as they won't offer the noise isolation you're looking for and really aren't good for public use. Good news is that the Cloud IIs have a removable microphone, so they can easily be used for gaming as well as out-and-about music listening without the mic sticking out.

Plus, Amazon offers this bundle that includes a free PC copy of Rainbow Six: Siege, if you're into FPS's.

u/sirethan · 2 pointsr/audio

I recently bought the HyperX Cloud II and absolutely love it, good sound, can do 7.1 surround and a fairly decent mic to talk to people you're gaming with

HyperX Cloud II

  • Built in 7.1 Surround Sound that can easily be toggled on/off
  • 3 meter braided wire
  • Comfy as FUCK
  • Detachable microphone
  • Very reasonable price at around £70-£75

Probably the best headset I've ever used, and I've owned many headsets over my 14 years of gaming.

If you're looking for a cheaper headset with similar advantages, check out the Logitech G430 Gaming Headset, a lot cheaper at just £30, with a lot of similarities to the HyperX Cloud II.

Cloud 2s are actually $95 on Amazon - highly recommend them!

u/YouAreSalty · 2 pointsr/xboxone

It always surprise me how overpriced gaming headsets really are. A good sounding normal headset for music in general cost $50, but slap gaming on it, and it's $150-200.

Personally, I highly recommend the HyperX Cloud 2. It has great sound, metal construction so no cracking plastic, braided cables, replaceable ear pads (includes both cloth and fake leather), storage bag, removable mic and 7.1 sound for PC/Mac. Works great on my Xbox!

It's $90, but is wired. There is a newer model as well, but I found the older model to be just fine.

https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-PS4/dp/B00SAYCXWG/

If you are looking at wireless, I believe you are pretty much limited in options to Astro (which likely will set you back higher than $200), and Turtle Beach, which I think is cheap quality sold at premium.

u/CaptainVerum · 2 pointsr/Twitch

The HyperX Cloud II is an amazing headset.

If you ever consider upgrading to a Blue Yeti, the mounts can be purchased for $20~ and they secure to the edge of your desk so it doesn't actually take up any desk space.

u/NoMomItsDubstep · 2 pointsr/joinsquad

I use the mix amp but I wear a pair of Audio Technica ATX-M50x. They're better headphones without getting into the audiophile sperg out range. They are a bit expensive at $150 however: https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M50x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR86/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1500426112&sr=8-3&keywords=audio+technica

Now if that's out of your budget, or if you have problems with headphones being uncomfortable, I highly recommend HyperX Cloud IIs:https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Gaming-Headset-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1500426247&sr=1-3&keywords=hyperx

HyperX Cloud II

A little more expensive than some of budget headsets out there but I’d say it’s far superior for the little bit extra you’ll pay.
Incredibly comfortable, fantastic noise cencelling, the sound is better than any turtle beaches I’ve owned.
The headset itself feels very sturdy and doesn’t feel like it will be easily damaged. The cables are reinforced with braided sleeves too.

They also come with the option for 7.1 virtual surround sound, should you choose to use them on PC.
The 7.1 surround sound doesn’t work with console but if you pair the headset with Dolby atmos it’s pretty much the same :)

I managed to snag them on a small sale but even at full price they’re an absolute steal.

u/aether_tech · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

A closed-back headphone is a headphone that has no vents on the outside of the earcup to allow air in or out of the sound chamber of the headphone. This has a tendency to emphasize bass. Closed-back headphones will also offer noise-isolation (not to be confused with Active Noise Canceling.)

An open-back has opening(s) - a grill, slots, holes, mesh, etc... behind the driver on the outside of the cup that allows air in and out of the sound chamber. Open-back headphones tend to not have the bass power of similar closed-back headphones - but typically are better at treble. Open-back headphones don't offer any passive noise isolation, as they are pretty much 'open' to the air in all directions. Sound will get in, and some small sound will get out.

The other major difference is in soundstage. Most closed-back headphones have very small soundstage, while most open-back headphones have wider sound-stage than most closed-backs, with some exceptions.

In terms of pure comfort, the Cloud II /w its' velour earpads are extremely comfortable (as my opinion), however of the above listed headsets it's overall sound quality is the worst/or tied with the Alpha. All of those have exceptional build quality compared to other gaming headsets I've ever tested (that's an extensive list, including Razer, Logitech, Turtle Beach, Sennheiser, HyperX, Corsair, SteelSeries, and whatever else they sell at Best Buy and Microcenter.) Now, that's not saying the Cloud II has bad sound quality, it's top tier among headsets - but the Sennheiser offerings are technically better, and have somewhat better microphones.

If you want a wireless headset I would go with the Sony platinum headset:

the best decision i made was in getting the Hyper X Cloud Core headset. It is identical in every way to the Hyper X Cloud 2, same sound drivers, same everything EXCEPT it doesn't come with virtual surround (which is trash) or the control box which isn't needed and trust me it would get annoying.

but anyways I come thru clearly to my friends, it sounds awesome, detachable mic if you want to use it to listen to music on your phone, super durable feeling cord and super comfortable (I have a huge head.) And my favorite little bonus is that it came with an extra cord that makes using it as a computer headset seamless. It's awesome.

i'd look for it on sale, i got it for much cheaper at Gamestop...ur basically getting the quality of a Cloud II at a much cheaper price.

AD900X with a mic.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Technica-ATH-PDG1-Premium-Open-Air-Headset/dp/B00OTG9RGE/
Similar to the MSR7

For me the Audio Technica products are some of the most uncomfortable headphones/headsets out there.

I have the ATH-M50x and the ATH-ADG1x.

The ATH-M50x sounds absolutely terrible to me compared to almost all of my other headphones/headsets. The bass drowns out everything else for me. And the pads are so terrible.

Whereas the ATH-ADG1x is one of the best sounding "gaming" headsets I have ever heard. It does everything right except comfort. It's not the headband or anything like that on the Audio Technica products. It is the insanely uncomfortable ear pads on almost everything they make. I guess the ear pads are made for people with smaller ears or something because they are not really over ear headphones/headset they sit on your ear because no-ones ear is a circle. So you have the pad sitting on the top and bottom of your ear and if you can handle that then perfect. I tried to change the ear pads but it ruined the sound. And after about 30 minutes it begins to hurt really bad.

So my recommendation is the ATH-ADG1x, which is essentially a ATH-AD900X with a mic. The sound is fantastic. Very nice bass, perfect sound stage and openness for gaming, but damn do the ear pads ruin it. Also the mic is phenomenal. It also works perfectly with my MixAmp and is actually really great for anything. Movies, music, TV, all sound amazing on these.

Anyway, good luck.

Some alternatives to consider if you value comfort:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-GAME-Acoustic-gaming-headset/dp/B00JQDOALC/
This is very close in terms of sound quality to the ATH-ADG1x but absolutely kills it on the comfort side. This headset is my go to recommendation for anyone that wants supreme comfort, way above average sound quality, and no bullshit.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-Mobile/dp/B00SAYCXWG/
This is extremely comfortable too. It is closed though. But still sounds very very good. And if you like a more "cinematic" sound then these would be the best option. They are slightly bass boosted (but it doesn't drown out anything and sounds so much better compared to the M50x) and everything else like mids and highs are solid as well.

Also, I should mention that all of the headphones/headsets mentioned here will absolutely destroy the A40 in terms of sound quality.

Basically once you hear a better pair of cans you will understand how bad the Astro's sound. It's basically like putting your head in a fishbowl with water in it and listening to speakers on the outside of the fishbowl. Bass that is so strong it drowns out the mids and highs and completely destroys any clarity. The A40's do look cool and feel pretty comfortable and also feel very well built but that is about it.

  • 1 for the Hyper X Cloud 2s. I've had mine probably around 4 years now and I've only had one issue. Whenever the computer is restarted I have to return up the mic volume on the "mid cord" remote, a tad annoying but they've been great otherwise. Really sturdy, drop them a lot with no damage, good cord length, nice "mid cord" controls for volume/mic volume/mic mute/"7.1 toggle"

Red ones are $88 and Grey are $84.

Also side note when I first got them, it came with the "pleather fake vynnl" ear cups already on it and it was super hot on my ears/uncomfortable. I switched those out with the "cloth/fuzzy ish" ear cups that came with it and it's way more cool and comfortable. So you may have to try that out.

I had the HyperX Cloud II's for about a year. They're quality for the price, but lack any bass or low end. However, their surround sound isn't as good as other options. I found that I wasn't hearing a lot of footsteps and sounds that my brother was during gaming sessions. I upgraded to the Turtle Beach Stealth 700's and it is night and day difference between the two. The TB's are a little more rigid, but I still find them comfortable to wear for a several hour gaming session. The bass is much better, and the surround sound is tons better, even when watching a movie.

u/amazedave · 2 pointsr/gaming

Here is a build you can start working with to fit your needs. It is £40 over budget but some bargain shopping and/or used parts can close that gap. I put in a cheap keyboard and mouse as a place holder, those are some items that can be replaced with expensive counterparts later as you see fit, but they will do the job now. I put windows 8.1 because it can still upgraded to 10 for now, but there are always cheaper ways to get windows, but be careful and do your research. You can replace the case with whatever as long as it is compatible which pcpartpicker will tell you. You can probably find different speakers for cheaper but I would recommend buying headphones if most of your audio will be for gaming. For headphones I would recommend the hyperx Cloud II, but that is something that can wait. Once again the graphics card is more or less a place holder. That is something that you will have to shop around for as your currency changes, but I would look towards amd's new rx470 or rx480 that come out tomorrow. With their arrival used graphics cards will also go down in price so keep an eye on ebay or /r/hardwareswap, they have a UK section. Learning to build a computer is pretty simple, just watch some youtube videos and you will have it down.

Speakers: Edifier R1280DB.

Go with 2.0 bookshelf speakers, not 2.1 computer speakers. These have Bluetooth, optical, and coax. Oh, and they sound amazing.

Headphones are tricker. Will you also be using them with a console or a phone at any point? Want to keep them on while running to get a cup of tea or take a leak? Do you play FPS's?

You have few different options:

Convenience be damned you want awesome audio quality above all else.

  • Get a DAC. Sennheiser GSX 1000. Modern, slick gaming features, solid DAC. Little Dot MKII. Because toooobs.

  • Open back headphones. There are a million suggestions at dozens of different price points. I recommend prioritizing comfort, spatial positioning, and a warm sound that won't cause listening fatigue.

  • Modular attachable boom mic. Antlion Audio ModMic 5 or Minimic. Don't underestimate these mics. They sound amazing, you have little-to-no background noise, don't need any additional acoustic treatment, and you don't have to worry about boom arms and the like.

  • Blue Yeti. You just couldn't imagine not having a huge mic like you see streamers using. It's the defacto go-to mic for a reason. Keep in mind everyone will hear your mouse and keyboard and that guy diving by and your dog sneezing and...

It says PS4 and PC, but it also works on an Xbox One. Having owned A40s and A50s over the years, and being plenty unhappy with my A50s when I was playing CS:GO, I bought this headset. For half the price, I consider it way better than anything Astro is going to sell you. The directional sound, especially, is so much better.

u/DarthSnorlax · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

It depends on what you like and how much you want to spend.

I would suggest an Antlion Mod Mic with a separate pair of headphones as my main recommendation as you can just take the mic off like a normal headset and get the best of both worlds of a pair of headphones you like and a headset style.

I have cloud 2's, no echo complaints from my friends. Great, durable build quality, balanced sound, comfortable, great mic. They are an awesome set of headphones that I highly recommend. They're one of the most popular headsets for a reason, maybe its more likely you got a bad pair and most of them were fine.

They have 700 reviews and 4.5/5 stars. Youd think it would be worse if there was such a problem with it.

u/GlacierIsland · 1 pointr/audiophile

Is Deezer Hi-Fi a good value? I wouldn't say I'm much of an audiophile; I enjoy higher quality encodes of music but my ears are happy with 192kbps MP3/OGG or above. I mainly listen to popular, modern music that doesn't have much dynamic range in the first place (designed for compression). I listen to music with these when on the go and these when gaming on PC.

I'm using the HyperX Cloud II Headset and it's working great. Really comfortable (even with my glasses), surround sound is good, sound quality is good (to my mind, at least). It has a 3.5mm plug (so it's good as a normal headset), but comes with a control pad with a USB plug on a very long cable. Noise cancellation is good, though not perfect when used on an airplane.

If I had one complaint, it doesn't have a mic mute button on the headset itself, but there is a mute switch on the control pad.

u/Bryan-Clarke · 1 pointr/PS4

I saw your comment about the headset. There is a headset that is considered really good by both gamers and audiophiles, which is unusual cause audiophiles consider almost every gaming headset overpriced trash.

Its the HyperX Cloud 2 or the previous version the HyperX Cloud if you dont want to spend more money, i can assure you both are way better than the official ps headphones or the turtle beach.

Thanks. I will grab the Cloud II. These say PC and PS4 but I guess they will also work with Xbox One since they have a 3.5mm jack?

u/Carb122 · 1 pointr/PS4

Only when used via usb it has 'synthetic' 7.1 surround sound, if your using direct from 3.5mm it's just stereo I believe. To be honest, even when I play games on my PC (pubg) I've never really used the 7.1, I've turnt it on to see what it's like but I don't use it that often. I'm using them on h1z1 beta right now and they are fine.

Hyperx Cloud II's are fantastic and you can totally find a pair on ebay or amazon for under $100! The Alpha's are slightly nicer, but if you don't want to spend the extra money you will just be as satisfied with the Cloud II's! They have similar mic quality if you're concerned about that, but the Alpha's have parts you can remove and a nicer sound stage.

u/Gilbanator · 1 pointr/wow

Oh no problem man.

As far as I know with monitors, don't worry too much about that 120/144Hz stuff, brands like Samsung, BenQ and Asus are safe bets.

I actually work/study in audio engineering, so speakers are my bread and butter. Personally though, a good pair of headphones while using my computer suffice for me, if he's talking to his friends online, consider maybe getting him a gaming headset? Only really saying this, as speakers are usually really low quality until you get into the upper £100 price range, and can take up a lot of desk space.

Usually I would recommend buying a standard pair of headphones, and buying an attachable microphone separate but it's only really worth doing if you're really into your sound.

Here's a 'gaming headset' reccomendation

Here's a desktop speaker reccomendation

Wi-Fi adapters you usually need to buy if you're building your own PC, but usually come in all Pre-built computers, so I wouldn't worry about that, however it is recommended even these days to use a wired connection if you can.

Maybe a mouse mat? Can pick any up from brands like 'Steelseries' for cheap-ish and last absolute years, he will need a Keyboard, but unless you want to splash out on a mechanical keyboard, the standard Microsoft keyboards are great.

I think that's everything? haha.

These are what I have, but anything with 7.1 surround sound should be good. They're a little pricey but the sound quality is excellent and they're really comfortable.

HyperX Cloud I ($79.99) or HyperX Cloud II ($99.99). Cloud II's come with a sound card if you need/want one. These are arguably the best headphones for gaming+audio quality. Mic quality is not the greatest but it works well in my experience. They are re-branded Takstar Pro 80's which are great for music/audio fidelity.

I have the Cloud I and the top headband was uncomfortable before wearing it in over time. Cloud II has memory foam on the top headband so it should be more comfortable. Comes with leather earpads with great passive noise cancellation and velour earpads if your ears ever get sweaty. Detachable mic, extension cable, volume control, and a plane adapter. Pretty great deal overall.

I'd throw some more at it just to get a headset you know if on the better side of things. The Hyper X Cloud 2 I usually recommend to people for a sub $100 headset the sound and mic both perform really well for the money. If you're on the "Ill buy the cheap one now and then upgrade later" train but can swing it now, I'd push to get the Hyper X instead. I don't know about those headphones you linked but I've had bad luck with lower priced headsets sounding muddy, faded and having an awful mic. If you can wait for Black Friday (if thats a thing for you) you can usually grab the Hyper X Cloud 2 for around $60-$75 new but if not you can always snag one from the amazon warehouse for $80. https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Gaming-Headset-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ref=sr_1_1?m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&s=warehouse-deals&ie=UTF8&qid=1504757473&sr=8-1&keywords=hyperx+cloud+2

Don't do it. Get these Sennheisers instead. Better build quality and sound and better mic. Probably not worth $300, but I'd get em for $140. Or look at the Hyper X Cloud for $80 or Hyper X Cloud II's for a little more.. Linus Tech Tips gave really good reviews on them.

Edit: If you ask anyone serious about audio they'll tell you to get nice headphones and a separate mic. I got some Sennheiser 558's for about $100 and a Zalman clip-on mic for ~$8. It's a little more of a hassle dealing with 2 cords, but the sound quality and comfort is awesome. Couldn't be happier.

Edit 2: or just get the A40's. I don't know a whole lot about them, but have read that Sennheisers are superior for sound quality.

A wireless controller is all I use, that's it. No wireless headphones, speakers or any of that. I don't need them for anything, they're unreliable and I don't want to be unable to listen to music because my headphones ran out of juice.

My wired headphones for music cost $30 and my wired headphones for gaming cost $98. Good, solid headphones in both cases and I am not about to get anymore extra weight on those because they're wireless and have batteries. Getting the same quality brand wireless headphones would cost a fortune and I am not about to pay that kind of money simply because I'd need them for my phone. Yes, I use my gaming headphones just on one device but I use them every single day for 4-5 hours. And that kind of usage with wireless headphones? I'd have them plugged in for charging quite a lot. And whenever I'm not my computer, I have my headphones on because I'm listening to music. Another 6-7 hours every day. No point in going wireless, I'd be charging those all the time as well.

The only thing i can thing about the build is that, with a 1070 id get either a 1400p or 144hz monitor to get the most out of the card otherwise the card will be underused at least it would be able to easily max out almost everything you throw at it.

Best Gaming headphones for the price are the hyper x cloud 2.

For keyboard get a Mechanical with cherrymx keys, honestly absolutely one of the best investments ive ever made, every time i touch a non mech KB i wish i could have mine everywhere.

For the ethernet cable, just about any will work, id also get an ethernet cable tester.

My birthday is coming up and my parents asked me what I would like. Since I need a new gaming/music headset anyway:

  • HyperX Cloud II or

  • HyperX Cloud Revolver

I've read good things about both but get some conflicting reviews when looking on Amazon vs. Newegg. It sounds like the Cloud Revolver is solidly constructed and sounds good but it doesn't appear to have a USB plugin (is this a problem?). The Cloud II does have a USB plugin. My current headset is wireless via a dongle, but all other wired headsets I've used have been through the audio jack so I'm not sure what the difference between USB input vs. audio jack input is. Those two are probably my top choices but I also looked at the regular Cloud and the Cloud Stinger. One last thing: I love my music but I've never had a true audiophile headset/headphones so I'm just looking for something that sounds pretty good without a fantastic soundcard, etc.

I have been doing research for days now. I just went through Mad Lust Envy's List and his highest rating for competitive is AKG K701 How do these compare to the 363D headphones I have to return due to defective microphone?

The idea here is best competitive gaming positional queues and awareness. Please make sure to check my computer to make sure whatever you suggest doesn't require an external sound card or amp/dac thing and if it does please try to reach the same ballpark price with all required items included. I really appreciate everyone's help, been going crazy not being able to find a concrete answer to this question. Legit googled everything I possibly could and read everything I could on /r audiophiles/headphones. Consensus is don't buy into "gaming" headsets. Purchase a pair of headphones + modmic but the 363D's seemed great and it's about the only headphone I read about on those forums that people weren't angry about. Just want to spend my money wisely that is all. I spend my life gaming lol.

> * Budget - Up to $250 in total. Will need a microphone, idc if that's a headphone+modmic or whatever is best for the price. (wiggle room if seriously worth it). I currently just bought Sennheiser PC 363D headphones off ebay for about $180 and liked them but need to return them because the microphone is defective; want to know if there is something better (maybe headphone/dac/modmic?) • Source - PC gaming imaging/positioning/directional queues. I just want to be able to hear exactly where the enemy is by sound and also pick up that sound earlier.
  • Requirements for Isolation - Is this open vs closed? None. Open I hear is better for positional queues.
  • Will you be using these Headphones in Public? No.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Unknown
  • Preferred tonal balance - Not sure. Just want competitive gaming advantage with clear clear precise audio queues for things like footsteps. The game I'm playing is PlayerUnknown's BattleGround.
  • Preferred Music - Not important.
  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I want ultimate sound clarity. I was playing a duo game with my buddy and I was hiding in a house and he heard a guy walking outside WAY before I ever heard him. He said he's using like a soundblaster card with scout mode. I just want to be able to hear like him. The Sennheiser 363D was a massive improvement for directional queues in compared to my HyperX Cloud 2's I had before. thank me later

I own TWO of these headsets, I have had them for about 3 years. The quality of the mic is great (for when I can’t use my blue yeti) as well as the quality of the sound in general. They are comfortable and my head never feels squeezed like my old steel series would. Cable can be extended with an adapter cable that makes it extremely long for if you are far away from the computer. Overall I HIGHLY recommend it.

u/olbaze · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Peripherals, as in keyboard and mouse? A good mouse is absolutely an investment worth making. I've spent time with a bad mouse (couldn't play more than 45 minutes without pain) and some very good mice. I've also bought mice when I felt my current one was limiting me in a game. And from all of that, I say that a mouse is going to be one of the most important things in your overall gaming setup.

As for a keyboard? Nah, keyboards are mostly for features (customizable LEDs, rebinding keys, macros, media keys) over function. I wouldn't invest in an expensive keyboard over something else.

For headphones/headsets, it goes back to the mouse: An ill-fitting pair of headphones is uncomfortable and painful. A bad quality headset is going to have your friends complaining about your shitty microphone and you wondering why all songs sound flat and lifeless. But you can get away with very little: HyperX Cloud II is a very good headset, not only in its price category, but in gaming headsets in general.

The HD569 have a 2.5 mm jack. So you won't be able to plug the Boompro directly. You'll need this adaptor. But you might need to trim the plastic because the standard cable has a very slim connector (as you can see in the picture).

The HD569 are a good chouse in terms of impedance. I've seen 16-32 ohms recommended. But I am not sure if even these will be overkill for the output of the PS4 controller.

If this is too complicated, I would also recommed the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset. They have excelent reviews.

u/FudoJudo · 1 pointr/headphones

I've been slowly getting more and more interested in the world of "proper audio", after several cheapish headset solutions for gaming in the past.

Budget: Flexible to be honest, but I'd have to be really committed to my choice to spend more than about £120 ($154 USD).

Source: My desktop computer. I do not believe it has a fancy soundcard.

Requirements for Isolation: Low. I might want to take these for a long car ride from time to time but it'll mostly be used for gaming and music at my desk (osu, Overwatch, etc).

In public?: Unlikely.

Preferred Type: I haven't had many circumaural headphones, but I love them. Proper comfort is my preference!

Preferred Tonal Balance: I understand the underlying theory here, but I'm not really knowledgeable enough to say I have a preference. I believe that a wide sound-stage is important for gaming because of the positional audio.

Past Headphones: Some Sennheiser gaming headset I won in a competition - I don't really remember the sound other than "good!" but the bracket and hinge on the left earpiece eventually disintegrated. Currently I'm using a Jabra BIZ 2400 after several other office-style headsets broke.

Preferred Music: Again, I'm not really an expert on genres, but most of my music comes from anime and / or osu maps. Examples/favourites are Highscore, Scarlet Rose, Talent Shredder and Mythologia's End.

Improvements: This is my first foray into the world of actually caring about audio rather than some £10 office headset, so I'm improving from "not caring" to "proper audio".

The things I've been looking at so far are the Superlux HD668Bs, the Sennheiser HD 558s (which one commenter described as "wallhacks" quality) and possibly the Hyperx Cloud II (which has the advantage of coming with an okay microphone - possibly also considering the Stinger!)

Please help and educate this filthy casual!

Footnote edit: There's also the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x.

When it comes to headphones I am using some Sennheiser HD 598 Cs Closed Backs they aren't audiophile material or so i'm told, but I still think they are amazing headphones. (Keep in mind I use a blue snowball as a mic to talk when gaming)

If you are looking for a headset I personally love the HyperX Cloud II's I had the first edition of them and they were great! I heard they improved a lot about them with the second generation of them.

When it comes to fans I used to use the Corsair SP120's currently I am using the fans that were stock on my H440, but the corsair fans are quality static pressure fans that are pretty quiet. Plus they have mod rings to fit your build aesthetic.

(Probably should’ve mentioned in post but I’ll be playing mainly FPS /Rainbow 6/Battlefield etc. so I’m more so looking for a headset that can pickup in footsteps easily while still being reliable in the long run)

Yes!! Would love to!!

  1. Case, NZXT Phantom 410.

  2. Monitor risers in black, suits the red theme!

  3. Artisan Hien's mousepad in red. I'm planning to get the same mousepad in pink. Saw another redditor using this mousepad and it looked really good!

  4. HyperX Cloud ll Love this! Planning to get the white/pink one soon.

For your table, you could choose a black one as black and red goes well together! Gaming chair wise, it's hard for me to recommend one since I am still an amateur at this and idk which one is the most preferred brand? Same goes to keyboard and mouse. >_< so sorry!!

u/Maliciousrodent · 1 pointr/bapccanada

I would call myself a moderate audiophile but I'm also not willing to spend >$200 on headphones. I currently have a pair of kingston hyperx cloud IIs and they are the best headphones by far for the price. Sound great and extremely comfy. They are also currently on sale for $120. A slightly cheaper option is the cloud core at $100, which is the exact same headphone, just without anything extra. The cloud II has a usb control box for volume, mute, and simulated 7.1. They have a new model, the cloud alphas at $142, which I want to buy. Sound better, has better inline controls, and a removable cord.

They will work with anything that has a headphone jack. The mic boom is removable and has a small plug to cover the hole when it's out. As for sound quality, the bass is loud and clear, even at high levels. The mids are a little weak but if you have access to an equalizer you can make the headphones sound all around awesome. Mids sound better on the alphas because of the dual chamber audio. They sound very good on my phone using poweramp's equilizer. I use them basically exactly how it sounds like you plan on using them, except with a bit of metal and rap mixed in.

So my recommendation is alpha if you want the best for under $150, cloud II if you want something cheaper with inline controls on pc, or the core if you don't need any of the extras.

u/ssmahony · 1 pointr/GlobalOffensive

Yeah at northern arena they forced should have forced the players to use noise cancelling "3m earmuffs" (like these) which don't put out any audio. The only way to get audio would be to use earbuds. I know stewie2k uses generic Apple earbuds, however some pro's decide to go with higher end earbuds. Either way you don't really want to be using earbuds at home.

But if you are just asking about what headset to get for CS, the most common headset among pro's are the Senhizer's, if you are looking for something cheaper though Astro's, Hyper X Cloud II's , and Logitech G430's are also very popular.

I'm also going to take this opprotunity to point out that you shouldn't be using the default CS:GO sound settings, but you can read more about that here

u/mosbro · 1 pointr/headphones

Hello, currently looking for headphones that come with a microphone attached to it and have a split 3.5mm audio and microphone cable like these have: SteelSeries Siberia v2. Of course, I want better quality and comfort than those.

Budget: $100

Source: Desktop

Isolation: Using at home. More isolation would be better.
Not using in public

Preferred type: Cover the ear

Tonal Balance: I like bass but not enough that it drowns out the music.

Past headphones: I am currently using SteelSeries Siberia v2. They are starting to hurt on my ear after wearing them for about 3 hours. The microphone quality has also dropped.

Improve: I still want a headset that comes with a microphone attached to it. Better sound quality than the my current headphones would be amazing. I bought those for $50 so I'm hoping spending $100 will give me better quality. I was looking at these to purchase: HyperX Cloud II but I'm not sure. They don't have to be gaming headphones.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.

u/ButteryWarrior · 1 pointr/xboxone

Pretty sure that if you have the xbox one controller that has the 3.5mm jack, mic monitoring is available with any headset you like.

Personally, I use the Hyper X Cloud II's and they work great.

u/TheJayPack · 1 pointr/playstation

I am using 2 Headset Amps.
A Plantronics Rig Mixamp and a Hyper X Cloud 2.

The Rig Mixer is connected to my PC with a USB and Audio cable. Then the Hyper X audio controller is connected to the PS4 with a USB. The controller was then connected to the "phone jack" of the Rig Mixer. Headset is connected to the Mixer.

Now I just need to remember which System I am using to talk with others. Pressing the Phone channel I only hear the PS4 and can then talk in a PS4 party. Pressing the Mixer channel I can talk in Skype and still hear the PS4 but can't respond in a PS4 party.

You don't need a Hyper X Cloud 2 you can substitute the PS4 to Rig with any headset controller/ adapter that uses audio and mic in one audio cable. You can also change your config by making the PS4 your main source by following their guide.

Hope that I explained this clearly.

u/Schack_ · 1 pointr/buildapc

The HyperX Cloud II, it is a bit over £55, but it is the best, and maybe you can get it cheaper when black friday comes around.

u/dotobaggins · 1 pointr/buildapc

Hyper X Cloud II are generally regarded as very solid intro headphones under $100. I linked the gray one so it doesn't clash with your build but they also have red/black and pink/white.
I would stay away from the Kraken as the audio quality is pretty poor. I do own other Razer products, but don't recommend their headphones.

u/lemeure · 1 pointr/AskGames

The static was probably due to the usb to audio converter thing.

I would recommend the hyper x cloud 2(recent sales), since it has exactly what you want, it has surround sound via usb if you want, and a 3.5 mm jack as well if you want to use a dac if you still have those problems, also its pretty much the best sounding headset for under 100 bucks.

u/Freakenstein7 · 1 pointr/xboxone

  • Budget - £100

  • Source - PC

  • Requirements for Isolation - None. Will be using these inside at home exclusively - currently sit not too far away from the TV but I plan to change that early next year.

  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Full sized for comfort.

  • Preferred tonal balance - Literally have no idea about any of this - will be using these 95% of the time for gaming and that is where my preference lies (think online FPS).

  • Past Current headphones - Plantronics GameCom 388. I love the comfort of wearing them (although they do get hot after a long while).

  • Preferred Music - Rock (most types). However, I want to tailor my decision around gaming.

  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up - I'm looking to improve my online gaming performance for the lowest cost possible. I've heard good things about improving the sound stage to place noises easier and because of that I think I'm leaning towards open back - but can be easily persuaded away.

  • Location - UK

From research and looking around I'm leaning to these 2 (in order of my current preference):

    Sennheiser HD598SR

    HyperX Cloud 2

However, I'm posting here simply because this is my first foray into looking at higher quality headphones and sounds. And I really don't have any experience of this...
u/shadyinternets · 1 pointr/gaming

small disclaimer here, i am a bit of an audio snob so mostly have more expensive gear because i like overpaying for things apparently lol

So, at that price point im really not that sure what is "best" as i dont have a ton of personal experience there other than some audio technica m40x, which are on sale for $80 with no mic on amazon right now. at $80 they are great, but with no mic you would need to spend a bit more.

http://smile.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M40x-Professional-Monitor-Headphones/dp/B00HVLUR54/ref=sr_1_cc_1

if you could up your budget just a bit you could add a v moda boom mic that would work with the m40x. it is $30.

http://smile.amazon.com/V-MODA-BoomPro-Microphone-Gaming-Communication/dp/B00BJ17WKK/ref=sr_1_4

any non-usb mic would work too, but the v moda attaches to the headset to keep things nice and tidy. so something like either of these 2 should do the trick and both are under $10. you just have to figure out how to get the mic in place since it isnt designed to attach to a headset straight out the box. the one is a lapel mic so just attach it to your shirt, and the second could possibly be broken down and you could try attaching it to the headset on your own somehow.

http://smile.amazon.com/Microphone-Smartphone-Blusmart-Omnidirectional-Condenser/dp/B01H19E0JE/ref=sr_1_39
http://smile.amazon.com/Connectland-Tabletop-Microphone-Recording-CL-ME-606/dp/B0028Y4DCC/ref=sr_1_7

Or you could try these Hyperx Cloud II's out. i have never tried these, but they are in your price range and they are sort of a chinese knockoff version of the more expensive mmx300s i have. they have a lot of really good reviews though so might be worth a try. even though they arent from an actual headphone manufacturer they apparently are very good for the price point, so could be just right for you.

http://smile.amazon.com/HyperX-Gaming-Headset-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B00SAYCXWG/ref=sr_1_1

you could also pop over to /r/headphones to look for some advice. there are people there with a lot more experience with products across a wider price range so could be somebody who already owns a headphone/mic combo that fits that budget.

u/MatrixDrag0n · 1 pointr/headphones

Actually I just found the Cloud II's for $69.99. Will the sound card justify that $10 price increase? Does 7.1 Virtual Sound stage and Noise Cancelling/Echo Cancelling Mic via inline Sound Card actually mean anything?

Another option I could have is to just stick with my current headphones (Bose Soundlink Wireless Around Ear II) and get separate mic. Is this a better option than spending $50-70 on a different set of cans?

^^Sorry ^^for ^^asking ^^so ^^many ^^questions...

I didn't hear a thing, thanks to my amazing HyperX Cloud 2 headphones. I got them on Amazon for $99.99 (free shipping). These things work as advertised! If you're looking for something specifically for gaming, check out the Kingston HyperX Cloud or even the Kingston HyperX Cloud II if you can spare the extra $15 over your budget. I've heard pretty good things about them but haven't used them personally.

On the other hand, if you want something a little more music/all-around oriented, you could look into a more expensive closed-back can and an Antlion Modmic 2.0. That's currently the setup I'm using and I have no complaints.

Man this thread has me questioning my future headphone+mic choice.

I'm considering the HyperX Cloud II's for the 7.1 virtual surround sound and fantastic reviews.

Would getting the FiiO E10k DAC for it be a good idea or would it not be necessary?

I figured I could use the Razor Surround software for the Cloud II's 7.1 feature over the DAC. Or would it be best to use them together?

I'm not an audiophile, but I do want the best bang for my buck (which is a cheap budget).

u/Lemains · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Take a look at the Kingston HyperX Cloud headset. It has amazing sound and a detachable mic.

But the hyper cloud X2 is a wired headset..

It comes with two parts, one part the headphone drive can go into a ps4 pad, but that can also connect in its mini amp which connects into the PS4 via usb and makes the sound much better and clearer.

So in simple terms:

Hyper X Cloud 2 + XIM APEX + Regular Dualshock 4 + Regular PS4 = No issues?

Currently looking to purchase a budget DAC for my audio setup. I would like to possibly invest in a nice pair of headphones because I've just become sensitive to low quality audio playback, (It's something that sets off my sensory overload) I can't stand something of low quality and it bothers me that my music sounds really sub-par on spotify (Extreme setting enabled) and high bit-rate music on my iTunes.

Does anyone have any recommendations for getting into a budget Audiophile setup? My budget is around $150 for now.
