The board is fine, it's just that for guaranteed compatibility, it's best to pick something from the QVL. In this case, I'd probably recommend the Kingston HX436C17PB3K2/32 Predator chips, as they have a 2400MHz SPD, so they'll generate less heat than the 2133MHz SPD chips (ideally you should get a 2666MHz SPD chip, but none of the ones on the QVL are sold in Canada currently).

Ultimately though, you can use any chip that shows up on the QVL. If you use one that's not on the QVL, one of four things will happen :

  1. It'll still run perfectly fine. Many chips use the exact same XMP profiles, so even if yours isn't certified, it might use the same XMP profile as one that is, and will work the same.

  2. A lower XMP profile will work, such as 3466 or 3200.

  3. You can set the timings manually to get it to work at the full speed.

  4. It will just run at the JEDEC SPD speed (2133, 2400, or 2666, although they've recently released 3200MHz SPD chips, but none are shipping until Sept/Oct).

B-Die is only relevant on 300-series chipsets. So if you had an X370 and wanted to run anything above 2933MHz, it pretty much had to be Samsung B-Die. It's not relevant on 400 and 500-series chipsets, though.

I really wanted to go with RAM that would hit AMD's "sweet spot" of 3600 CL16, but looking through my motherboard's list of compatible RAM, and more specifically looking through the list for RAM that would hit 3600, the RAM that I found was way too expensive at CL16.

So I settled for RAM that was on the list (and the list showed it hitting 3600), and CL17. Just moving from CL16 to CL17 saved me hundreds. Anyway, here it is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GNJSFVX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I got two sticks, each 16GB.

That RAM will run on the MSI X570 ACE at 3600, with CL17.

There aren't very many 2x16 kits supported officially for AMD. You really need to check QVL for 2x16 kits. I had to return my 2x16 Trident Royal 3600mhz kit because it was not stable at all even without OC it crashed instantly. For my x570 Taichi they have a 2x16 kit that is QVL supported from HyperX but it's a total of $400.

I really want 2x16 but QVL support is scarce and it was giving me a headache so I just downgraded to an officially supported Trident Z royal 4200mhz kit, 2x8 though.

Edit: Your motherboard 2x16 QVL is the same as mine when it comes to 2x16 QVL support. The only available one is this https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Predator-3600MHz-HX436C17PB3-16/dp/B07GNJSFVX?th=1 .

What do you think about https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GNJSFVX/ref=psdc_172500_t3_B01AKWSUOU?th=1 as opposed to the 3600 that you linked for me? I prefer amazon for the great customer service and fast shipping. Do you have anything you can recommend from there?

edit: i am not a gamer if that makes a difference.

Thank you for that - quite helpful stuff.

So, For the price difference, I should probably grab the cheaper sticks here.. Amazon links below.

Cheaper option- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PJXC8JS/?coliid=I3NPBQLGJLGXBJ&colid=2XN2NQBXCM21S&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Better Sticks - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GNJSFVX/?coliid=I118WFGIRBEYNE&colid=2XN2NQBXCM21S&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Or I just found https://www.amazon.com/G-Skill-Trident-3200Mhz-PC4-25600-Channel/dp/B07N7SBSF4/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=trident+z+royal+2x16&qid=1563341739&s=gateway&sr=8-2

3200Mhz but looks amazing!

UNLESS there is a major quality difference between them??? I know Hyper X is darn good stuff! Is the Corsair up to snuff these days??? And do both go OK on X570 with Ryzen 2's?
