Has anyone read Inferno by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle?
It's a modern retelling of the story where the main character is a sci-fi author instead of a poet and has Mussolini as a guide instead of Virgil.
I haven't read it so i have no idea how close the story follows Dante's poem, but it might be a decent alternative.
There was also a movie based on the game. It used to be on netflix but it seems to have been taken down.
I read the original (translated to English), as well as Larry Niven's and Jerry Pournelle's inferno (https://smile.amazon.com/Inferno-Book-1-Larry-Niven-ebook/dp/B001F784EG), twice (I love that book).
That's what gave me the idea to create a campaign centered around retrieving something from hell and then escaping.
