I sincerely hope you didn't pay $377 just for that CPU, because damn son you got ripped off.

u/JohnnyRockets911 · 6 pointsr/buildapc

Is there any reason why PCPP randomly doesn't list Amazon prices?

Example:

u/karmapopsicle · 6 pointsr/buildapc
The i5-4690K is $209.99 on Amazon right now. Either way, the upper end locked Intel chips almost never make sense considering their cost premium over the slightly lower clocked models.

A few tweaks and optimizations here and there however and we can have a CPU/mobo that's overclockable for the future, and twice the SSD space, for only $20 more.

If you're not going to need an amazing CPU (read: gaming only, you're not going to be editing videos 12 hours a day), and you want to overclock, get the i5 4690K. It's cheap on Amazon (here's the link).

If you want amazing performance and still want to overclock, get the i7 4790k. You probably don't need this, but again, if you're editing videos a ton, it would be nice. It is around $270 though.

u/PlanetPudding · 4 pointsr/buildapc

Only thing I would suggest is the i5 4690k and a R9 280(cheaper and better)

u/senorroboto · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Go Intel 4000 series. 6000 series is too expensive and not much faster (definitely not worth the extra money).

CPU ($4321):
http://www.amazon.com.mx/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Procesador-BX80646I54690K/dp/B00KPRWB9G/

Motherboard ($2499):
http://www.amazon.com.mx/Gigabyte-GA-Z97X-SLI-DualBIOS-Tarjeta-Memoria/dp/B00K2RQAQY/

8GB RAM ($691):
http://www.amazon.com.mx/Kingston-HyperX-Fury-Memoria-Non-ECC/dp/B00J8E913Q/

Plus the GTX 970 I picked above ($6659), and the power supply ($865), and Windows ($2015), and your case ($1112) means a grand total of $18,162 plus tax/import tariff.

u/mikogk · 3 pointsr/buildapc

That's not a sale, that's the regular price. Amazon always has it for $235 as well:

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-BX80646I54690K/dp/B00KPRWB9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412829719&sr=8-1&keywords=4690k

It will be viable for high end gaming for probably at least 3-4 years, especially with overclocking now and/or down the line factored in.

If you're building in a few months, wait to buy until like a month or so before. These things tend to get cheaper as tech things do.

Also, the GPU will more often be the limiting factor in your gaming performance. Good luck with your build!

u/dlist925 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

If so, the 4690K would put him $20 over budget.

This is the one I'd recommend:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ASIN ID/TAG ID

eg.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00KPRWB9G/tag id

I also change from this to this, and that increased the conversion rate over 380% the following month.

u/GeneralDon · 2 pointsr/buildmeapc
These came out way under your budget, so it's up to you if you want me to change them to be even better. As they are they'll do great, especially the first build.

And here's the second one:

I'm not sure how much memory you'll want so I put in 4GB, if you need more then go with what I listed for the other build.

I went with a small form factor for this, should look pretty natural by a TV.

Also, we ask if you're near a MicroCenter because they often charge less if you can pick a component up from their stores.

Edit: Have you considered a Chromecast instead of a second pc? It won't be able to do as much but it can stream Chrome tabs to your TV or pull videos (like YouTube) straight from your wifi.

u/Tehsyr · 2 pointsr/battlefield_one

Actually no! Yes technology does advance at a rapid rate, but you don't need the best and highest end to feel secure with what you have. You can still game on a PC, but sometimes it gets tempting to add better parts to it. Here is my build.

Motherboard

CPU

RAM

Hard Drive

Case

GPU

These are the basics of my build. There are other things in it, but aren't important as of right now. The GPU, RAM, Hard Drive, and Case are what remain from the original build. Everything else either broke or were given away since I upgraded. Right now I am working on my last upgrade before I refrain from putting more money into my PC. I say this because there is a limit to how powerful you can make a PC before your next upgrade gives you diminishing returns.

If you set a goal for your gaming PC to be 1080p with steady 60fps and good graphics, then there are great budget builds on PC Part Picker. Feel free to head over to /r/buildapc for any questions you would like answered in their FAQ, or even ask me!

u/NarWhatGaming · 2 pointsr/hackintosh

/r/BuildaPC has some good advice, but here's some tips- an i5 4690k is possibly the best processor you can get, and it's a little cheaper. Are you planning on getting a graphics card eventually? If so I'd suggest a GTX 770 or 780. PSU wise I'd suggest getting one more trustworthy, such as a Corsair CX750M. It's about the same price, semi-modular, and will future proof you in case you upgrade.

u/AlexWJD · 2 pointsr/buildapc

If I were to add 40 euros anywhere, it would be to upgrade to an i5 4690k You'll get more performance and overclockablility.

u/Craycoala · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'm a tad confused, is this a new system build or do you already have the CPU and motherboard? If you already have the CPU/motherboard definitely don't upgrade to Skylake, just get a 4790k if you're looking for an upgrade.

If the above is true and you already have the CPU/mobo disregard this. Now, if you are doing a new build I would really recommend getting a Skylake CPU. While Haswell is still a very powerful and viable generation, there are no more upgrades beyond the 4790k so it will go obsolete faster than Skylake, as Kaby Lake and Cannon Lake are yet to be released for the Skylake generation. As for Haswell outperforming their Skylake counterparts, the i5-6600k and the i5-4690k perform basically the same with the 6600k being slightly better (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gs2RKt0MS9w). They also cost pretty much the same (6600K: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012M8M7TY/?tag=pcpapi-20 and the 4690k: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-BX80646I54690K/dp/B00KPRWB9G/).

For the i7-4790k and the i7-6700k, again they perform more or less the same with the 6700k being slightly better (https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Haswell-vs-Skylake-S-i7-4790K-vs-i7-6700K-641/). As for cost, again they cost about the same (4790k: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-4790K-Processor-Cache-BX80646I74790K/dp/B00KPRWAX8 and the 6700k: https://www.amazon.com/Intel-Unlocked-Skylake-Processor-BX80662I76700K/dp/B012M8LXQW). Since the release of Skylake, 1151 motherboards and DDR4 RAM have come down in price and more or less equal in price when compared to 1150 motherboard and DDR3 RAM.

u/ValgarLienheart · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

All in for £350...

i5 4690k for £170 (It's only £30 more than a 4460 so why not)

MSI H81-E34 for £45 Why this board? It's a secret overclocker and it's a bargain.

And a Sapphire R9 380 Nitro for £150 It's not quite a 390 or 970 but it'll certainly play GTA 5 almost maxed (my 270X plays a mix of high and ultra) and it should handle any modern game at 1080p at high settings 60fps+ when paired with an i5.

In total around £365, if you wanted to OC the CPU you'd need a better cooler but you really shouldn't need to with an i5 at 3.5GHZ but the option is there. You could drop down to a lesser i5 and still get great results if the budget was strict.

u/nateious · 2 pointsr/MLPLounge

That's pretty distasteful (the death threats, not your question), hell I've been building PCs for 16 years and I'm not positive you can't build a laptop. Certainly not in the traditional sense of buying individual components, but I bet you could piece together some sort of frankenlaptop from existing parts. Or build a PC into a briefcase emulate a laptops portability. Which I know works cause I know someone who did it back in the 90s.

I get that you don't want to go back to /r/buildapc but you really don't need to spend $2400.

16GB of RAM isn't strictly needed for games, very few will take advantage of that much. I can think of 1, Planetary Annihilation.

Anyway this is off the top of my head w/ out any research into cutting costs whatsoever. Spending some time on google you could prob shave off a few hundred.

4690K - $233

16GB RAM - $147

GTX 970 - $350

SSD - $127

PSU - $60

Motherboard - $140

HDD - $78

KB+M - $15

Windows - $92

Unless you are buying a $1200 dollar computer case, there's your good PC at half your expected cost.

I didn't include a monitor cause I'm going to assume that since your presently gaming on your 360 you have a TV and you can just plug your PC into that w/ a HDMI cable. Hell you can use same one you were using on your xbox after you throw it out since this PC will crush it. :-P

Comments:

1. You can always add in more RAM later. You probably won't use more than 8GB though.
2. I like DELL monitors but you can always look for another cheaper one. The DELL is an IPS so it looks pretty.
3. The H80i is really there only if you're looking at overclocking. Otherwise, it's overkill for stock settings.
4. The Windows 8.1 license really brings the price up. If you can find it anywhere for cheaper or you have your own license, that'll help you spending considerably.
5. If you don't necessarily like the case, there are plenty of others out there. I'm not sure what type of case you like so I figured I'd go with the one you mentioned.
u/zebrajr · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

So, a 980Ti would perform better then a 2x970 SLI setup?

Couldn't find the "K" version from the 4590 but I did found the 4690K. 40€ more, is it worth it?

The 167mm Hyper 212 Evo would be a nice fit then?

Edit: I saw PCMasterRace Builds and the "End-All" says a R9 380 8GB would be a recommended. I'm I missing something? Since I do know that AMD is a better bang for your buck but I saw some Benchmarks and the R9 seems to be under the NVidia equivalents (mainly I guess to how the current market is made)

u/MasterofStickpplz · 2 pointsr/buildapc

CPU: Just realized the Microcenter price carried over on this which sucks if you're not near one.. Only thing you'd loose is the overclock ability. Price should be about $209.99 from Amazon which should bring the total build price to ~$760

MOBO: I've seen it recommended with the Pentium G3528 or something for overclocking, was inexpensive, couldn't go wrong really. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive boards but we don't really need those as of yet (just wait until your friend really gets into gaming/custom PCs.. most of the premium boards are for looks IMO, but dammit I like my PC to look badass :p )

RAM: can drop to 2 x 2gb if you need to shave the price some. I put in 8gb just so you wouldn't have to upgrade that later. There shouldn't be any need to bump it further unless your friend starts running a bunch of crap simultaneously and needs it all open or starts doing some large video editing/rendering

STORAGE: 1 TB is a good place to start, an SSD for the OS would be great as well if you can find a good, inexpensive one and allows for the HDD to be used for more extra. You can grab a 2TB Seagate drive for $30 more, but I'm not sure how they perform or how reliable they can be so that's up to you

GPU: 750Ti is still the entry point to 1080p gaming, I believe. It'll do fine for everyday stuff and if he decides to pick up light gaming in the beginning

CASE: seems pretty solid, has room for 3 more SSDs/HDDs when/if you want them. Decent airflow and cable management stuff. If you notice heating/airflow issues then you can slap some fans in there

PSU: seasonic is supposedly one of the best brands to go with, 80+ Gold rating is hard to beat with that.. You can get an EVGA 750W for about $10 more but I wasn't sure how far you planned to upgrade (like SLI and stuff) so I left it high enough for something like a single GTX970 to still do well.

OS: Personal preference.. I like 8.1 over 7. The metro stuff doesn't take too much to get used to and the OS just feels a bit more optimized over 7.

NOTES: If you need to, you can remove the GPU and get one later. The i5's HD4600 can do decently well on its own, but you will need a GPU for some of the heavier games your friend may or may not get in to.

Didn't add a monitor but left enough of a budget in there for you to choose one to your/your friend's liking

I didn't add a cooler like the 212 EVO as I don't think you'd be overclocking straight out of the gate. You can add one in there for another $30 or so if you want to

DISCLAIMER: THIS BUILD WAS MADE WITH GAMING DOWN THE ROAD IN MIND AS TO MINIMIZE LATER UPGRADE COSTS.

That being said, someone else may come along and throw a more inexpensive alternative out that leans more towards general use (which you really don't need the top-of-the-line i5 for)

u/Sargeant123444 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Your CPU will definatley hold you back - I heavily recommend upgrading to the I5 4690K (It's priced competitively and will not bottleneck any graphics card).

The 750TI was my old graphics card and is as well out of date. I recommend upgrading to any GTX 1060 6GB

EDIT: sorry the 4690k is cheapest at Amazon ($235), seen it on sale for $210 though, you can also get it at Microcenter (if there's one near you) for $200 (or $300 if you bundle it with a processor - sick deal): http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-BX80646I54690K/dp/B00KPRWB9G

i7 for gaming usage is overkill, get an i5-4690K instead.

Get a Z97 board to match your i5-4690K. This MSI Z97 PC MATE should do the job.

Get a CPU Cooler if you're going to OC it, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

u/erragodofmayhem · 2 pointsr/buildapc

No problem. After posting the newegg link earlier, I found someone who posted the 4690k being $209 on Amazon, could save a little.

Instead of 1 stick of 8gb ram get 2 sticks of 4gb. http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-HyperX-FURY-2x4GB-1600MHz/dp/B00J8E93G6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408395344&sr=8-2&keywords=8+gb+ram This will help with dual channel memory. Amazon had it for $200 at the beginning of the month, so the only reasonable price drop that could occur on Cyber Monday would be about $10 less. It's been this price for a few days, by the way.

No, DDR3 RAM will not work with the 6600K. The 6600K needs DDR4 RAM. Consider upgrading instead to a 4690K CPU and Z97 motherboard which are compatible with DDR3 RAM. The 4690K is the older equivalent of the current-gen 6600K. CPU: https://amzn.com/B00KPRWB9G Motherboard: https://amzn.com/B00TXBP1NS

Sure!

So, below are my system specs. The process is hugely CPU bound, so if you can get something better, I would. I'm thinking about upgrading to a dual-socket 16 core Xeon in a few months.

For software I use Windows Media Center (in 8.1). The scheduling manager is probably a 3.5/5, it's all there it's just a pain to use sometimes because it was designed to be navigated with a remote so you have to click a lot for some things. The shows come in WTV format, which I assume is an AVI-like container because the files are gigantic. The program MCE Buddy takes those files and can generate MP4/MKV with .NFO files auto-magically with filters and naming conventions. It's basically a scheduling manager wrapped around ffmpeg/handbrake.

To strip commercials it uses a program called comskip which does a decent job out of the box, but you can spend some time fine tuning it (I spent 5-6 hours one saturday to just get SLIGHTLY better precision on the commercials, I've just started accepting a few slips).

For the last step I wrote some software I called torrentula that extracts screens and crawls for additional meta-data before wrapping it all up in a RAR/ZIP/TORRENT file. It's not ready for other people yet, but I can throw it on github if you wanna give it a try....it's just really raw still. Shameless plug to my twitch stream where I do walk throughs a couple times a week for a few hours on how I program these tools.

Storage can be whatever, I just have simple volumes in Windows.

For Library management I've surrendered to the Plex machine. It's not the best, but it's good enough and works without much configuration. Too resource intensive for me though.

You can build a pretty decent rig with $1200... But it depends on what type of work you'd need to be doing on your laptop.

If you just need something for word processing, get the Asus X205TA or HP Stream 11, and then build a rig with:

u/Unacceptable_Lemons · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I notice that the K variant of the i5-4690 doesn't come with thermal paste (it's also about $16 more):

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KPRWB9G/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=05MBD1SXAV548J79S4AB&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop

If we were to go with that option, just so we could OC in the future, what would you recommend in the way of thermal paste?

u/JustNilt · 1 pointr/buildapc

I think he means overpowered, but the video card you list actually requires a 750w unit, so I don't think that's the case. Personally, I'd strongly advise going with an Intel based build considering your budget. You don't specify what you're using the system for, but INtel is far and away better than AMD at per thread performance. Very few applications can take advantage of all the cores you have on that AMD processor and, even if they could, using fewer threads faster will still blow the doors off of the AMD. That's been the case for a while now.

The current crop of i5s paired with 8GB of RAM (2x4GB) is generally considered the best bang for the buck for any gaming rig. If this is for video editing or anything along those lines, then an i7 may be worthwhile, as well as bumping up to 16GB of RAM.

I'm heading out in a sec, so I don't have time to pull together a full build, but pair either of those CPUs with a decent motherboard like this one and you should be fine. Use the rest of the same build you have except drop the CPU cooler entirely unless you plan to overclock.

OP hinted he wants to game on a 144hz monitor so more CPU grunt will be really beneficial in a lot of games. I think his CPU (that's in that linked build) will bottleneck on a good number of games at 144hz, especially newer games with more/better AI. Of course it also really depends on the games OP wants to play.

I have a 780ti for my 120hz monitors and would easily be bottlenecked by my 2500k in a lot of instances if I didn't overclock it. I wouldn't recommend a processor that's bought now for a similar purpose to be weaker than what I have at the moment (which is actually almost 4 years old now, how time flies).

OP for the most part people in this sub will give you ideas on what you should and shouldn't include for a lot of reasons. Your current build is fine I would just change your motherboard (unless you are fine with micro ATX in a mid tower case), CPU and potentially your power supply. Everything else is pretty much good to go.

At a minimum I would (if I were you) bump up to this:

Almost all the time the i7 won't have a large gaming performance over the i5. Here I went for the newer Skylake CPU, Z170 board, and DDR4 memory. The performance difference over Haswell isn't that big and the price does go up a good amount. But I did also get a much nicer motherboard (which does have SLI support, meaning you can have two GPUs from nVidia)

Alternatively here's the haswell build with an i5.

u/PokemonGod777 · 1 pointr/gaming

Yes, that £170 is totally the equivalent to $1000 Even if you want to go overkill and get one that's extremely powerful, much more than one that'll last you a few years, it'll probably fetch $300-$400

4k Monitors, I'll give you, occasionally, a high quality 4k 144Hz Monitor can occasionally branch over the thousand range, but you can get them for cheaper.

u/vivelerenaissance · 1 pointr/buildapc

Having looked into i7 vs i5 further, I no understand why a lot of people are recommending the i5. Looking at the i5-4690K, I'm thinking this would be worthwhile... do you agree?

u/DTGG · 1 pointr/buildapc

Alright, I've made up my mind then, I'll go for the 4690k + MSI Z97 GAMING 5 you've suggested. I'd rather save a bit of money to buy a good fan the CPU so I can overclock it if I want later. I've checked the prices for the processor and the motherboard and it's actually cheaper on amazon, not by much though, so I'll order it there.

One last question though, and sorry to bother you, but is this i5 4690K the right one? It says 1056 Socket and this motherboard says 1150.

If you're asking for strictly graphics cards I would go with the minimum of a r9 290x or a [GTX 970] (http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Quieter-Graphics-04G-P4-2974-KR/dp/B00NVODXR4/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449824615&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+970) and these I would say can do 4k but won't be amazing at 4k. They will do amazing at max settings on WWE at 1080 60fps. Not entirely sure about 4k. What I have seen is people use the 980 in SLI for 4K and I'm positive you can do the same with the 290x or the 970 and get the job done as well. And I'm sure one of the GTX 980ti will do just fine. As for processors I myself have an i5-4690k and it gets the job done well. I would say go for an i5-4690k or higher and you can also search for the AMD equivalent as well. I don't have much experience with AMD so I wouldn't know what to recommend

EDIT: Here is a video showing the GTX 980 & i7-4790k running WWE 2K15 at 4K and 60 FPS

It's a EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti SC. It's one of the smaller cards (8.3"), so it fits into a Cooler Master Elite 110 (11"x10"x8"). It's perfect for my book shelf next to my TV.

The Processor was the only thing I splurged on. i5-4690 3.5 ghz. I needed the higher core speed to emulate properly.

It's a cramped build, since there is a lot of excess cabling to cram into a 1 cubic foot space. There was no room for a fan, but the case allows for a radiator, so I used a water cool unit.

u/SpyroHF · 1 pointr/buildapc

I'm looking to save up towards upgrading one piece of my build to make myself a bit more 2019/2020 capable. It's tackling everything I want it to, but I'm noticing that I'm having to make sacrifices (Very High > Medium etc). I've bought RDR2, waiting until they fix it before I even try to install it! Hopefully aiming for 100fps on a mix of medium/high settings but doubt it given how shit it's been :/

As for the sound card its not necessary as the onboard soundports are as good as any add on soundcard below $100. Also if you can swing it, add a Samsung 120/250GB 850 EVO won't make games run faster but will make loading windows, apps and games a lot faster ( under 30sec for Windows and sometimes less for apps like Photoshop). http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OAJ412U/ref=mp_s_a_1_sc_1?qid=1421004120&sr=8-1-spell&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

You don't want anymore RAM, you should upgrade your CPU to maybe a 1155 series overclockable i5 or i7? Or if you want a bigger upgrade, get a new 1150 compatible mobo and a 4690k or something like that. As for the GPU depending on the price range i'd suggest getting the R9 280 or the GTX 970 once again if you're looking for a big upgrade. If you PSU is less than 500W you probably want to upgrade that tpp/

The closest CPU that I could for find that can be OC was the Intel Core i5-4690K http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KPRWB9G/?tag=pcpapi-20

It's $219 vs the i5 I have now at $169, so with the $30 I'd get back from the CPU cooler, I'd end up forking up $50 to get the CPU that I could OC. Worth it?

I thought I explained that in the album. If I wasn't clear enough I'll just say it here.

I have seven fans: one is the CPU fan and the other are six case fans connected together by a fan hub. The CPU fan is connected to the CPU_FAN1 on the motherboard. The fan hub is connected to CPU_FAN2 on the motherboard.

Glad to help.

u/BitOfAZeldaFan · 1 pointr/buildapc

One option is to upgrade your CPU. The i5 4690k for $250 is the fastest cpu in your price range that your motherboard will support.

Another option, which will be better in the long run, would be to upgrade to the latest platform. This would mean a re-build with a new cpu, motherboard, and RAM. Personally, I recommend Ryzen unless you ONLY use your computer to play AAA gaming titles.

Honestly, in the end, my recommondation is to save that $300 until it grows a bit more and upgrade to the newest platform.

Unless of course you're like me, and love buying computer parts and tinkering this very moment -- in which case go for the 4690k.

Do you have a after market cooler or the stock cooler that came with your 4150? the one for the 4150 should work as these two cpus dont come with a stock cooler.

All you need to do is add ram and a power supply and you're good to go. And with black friday around the corner shouldn't be an issue baby.

u/FrankV1 · 1 pointr/buildapc

It's a bit complicated since you are on a tight budget. Bottlenecking is caused by limiting one component by another component, ram, gpu and cpu work together, if the CPU can't supply enough processing power, your GPU can't give it's full potential. Right now, that GPU should do pretty well. But if you plan on keeping the CPU/Motherboard to keep on gaming i would highly recommend you reduce the colateral damage of getting lower budget components.

Since black friday is on the way and deals are going down every day, you should drop 100 bucks more to get an i5 instead, it already has a nice deal http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-BX80646I54690K/dp/B00KPRWB9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416792423&sr=8-1&keywords=intel+i5

Just remember with an i3, getting newer cards wont get you any benefits, since the i3 wont go any further.

u/penguinzrock · 1 pointr/buildapc

The R9 290 is a great <$300 upgrade, leaving you the extra $200 for an i5-4590 or an i5-4690k if you're willing to stretch.

Your 700W PSU is more than enough, but you might need a CPU cooler if you're planning on overclocking on the K edition.

How much should I sell this in a bundle? Or how much should I look for individually? Thanks in advance!

u/ImSurroundedByBosons · 1 pointr/buildapc

This is just my thinking, and I could be wrong, but aren't mini-itx boards more expensive for the same feature-set as its equivalent micro-atx board? If you were to get a micro-atc board, you could consider SLI or Crossfire down the line as well if that is something you're interested in. Also, unless you are doing some video editing, or workstation stuff, and i7 is unneccessary. You can spend the $100 difference between the i7 and an i5 on the GPU. Everything else looks good to me. One m,ore thing, though. Is the green thing an Nvidia preference? If it isn't, something like this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125505&cm_re=R9_290-_-14-125-505-_-Product) will be right in your price range after swapping to an i5. The r9 290 is a beast. It's without a doubt the best price/performance card in the high end market. At 1080p it performs similarly to a GTX 780 (typically $500), and at higher resolutions than that, it typically outperforms it and comes really close to a 780ti (typically no less than $600).

On sale right now

Had a friend do some research because they're smart as shit with computers and this is what he came up with. If I did get this stuff it would work and be compatible with everything else I have so I'm not worried about that. Let me know what you think?

You linked me to the non-overclockable version, I think. This is the clockable one, and it's significantly pricier.

The 4690 (stock) also says 'usually ships in 2 to 5 weeks'. I was following it earlier and they actually went out of stock when the price dropped. I'm kicking myself for not snagging it when I could, but I'm unwilling to wait 2 to 5 weeks for it when the rest of my build could be arriving on Tuesday.

u/PhilRawr · 1 pointr/buildapc

is there any you would reccommend?

i was possibly looking at this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-4690K-Processor-LGA1150-Socket/dp/B00KPRWB9G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464031347&sr=8-1&keywords=cpu

But is that an upgarde as it is i5 not i7?

u/Riper_Snifle · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Intel GPU? Do you mean CPU, Intel doesn't make discrete GPUs. If you're talking about CPUs, then you wouldn't have to change your RAM unless you went with an Intel i7 6900 or 6800 (but those are pretty expensive).

If you only game, and don't use your PC for any sort of video editing:

u/BigBadWolf1718 · 1 pointr/buildapc

you could put your money into a really strong cpu 4690k or you can get something cost effective with great headroom G3260

u/NotRamzi · 1 pointr/buildapc

I am planning on getting the i5-4690k so I'm guessing that Z87 may give me some trouble with that?

u/KronosIX · 1 pointr/buildapc

so if i wanted i could buy this CPU (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-4690K-Processor-LGA1150-Socket/dp/B00KPRWB9G/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1465388873&sr=1-2&keywords=cpu) so i could overclock but then i would need to buy a cpu cooler? is there any downside or anything im missing?

u/okaythiswillbemymain · 1 pointr/KerbalSpaceProgram

So what would be some good CPU's to base a build on?

The i7-4790k @ 4.0 ghz for LGA 1150 architecture -

and the i7-2600K @3.4 ghz for LGA 1155 architecture -

I'd love to see a proper break down of FPS for difference CPUs

The Amazon page is incorrect.
I assume you're looking at this page, in the "Compare to Similar Processors" section:

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-BX80646I54690K/dp/B00KPRWB9G

Took a screenshot.

u/Stingray88 · 1 pointr/hackintosh

Well, K series are only available in the top end i5 or i7 respectively, so you're already looking at faster clock speeds even if you don't overclock it. Personally, giving how incredibly easy it is to overclock even to just 4.0GHz using the stock air cooler… I think it's worth it. I think you should get an i5 4690K.

As far as what motherboard to buy, I'd get one from this list. All of them should be easily hackintoshable, so whatever you choose is based on your preferences and budget.

u/DerBleistift · 1 pointr/buildapc

So something more like this? A little over $200 is kinda my limit.

u/i_dont_seed · 1 pointr/buildapc

Get Windows 8. It's way faster and the learning curve is not too bad at all.

Intel 4690 i5 + Asus H97 if you're not gonna overclock.

Intel 4690k i5 + Asus z97-A if you're gonna overclock.

Of course, the mobo's are entirely up to you, depending on what features you want, but those are pretty popular ones.

As for the HDD, I'd really recommend taking advantage of the low SSD prices and getting a cheap 120 GB Samsung 840 EVO and pairing that with the existing hard drive you have. Installing Windows 8 on this SSD should give you a noticeable performance boost. Then again, the SSD is up to you.

u/Braadlee · 0 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I'd recommend comparing the 4590 with the 4690K:
http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-4590

For a small amount of money more you can get higher specs:

4590
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-3-30GHz-Graphics-Technology-Socket/dp/B00K5J22GG

4690K
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-i5-4690K-Processor-Graphics-LGA-1150/dp/B00KPRWB9G

And yes, for your build you will only need, approximately, a 400W power supply as your build roughly needs 326W of power, but I'd say possibly go for a 450W or 500W PSU, incase you want to overclock/upgrade in the future.

And so save further upgrades on the PSU get a Gold Certified, or higher, and get it fully modular, not Semi-modular, if you can afford it. It will keep your case cooler having less wired, and it will look nicer, if youre into that sort of thing.

Also for the GPU, if you do get the parts you have listed, maybe splash out a extra 100 dollars on the graphics card and get a MSI Nvidia GTX 970 4GB, its amazing and your system wont be 'bottlenecked'. (Not sure how to use that word in context correctly.

MSI GTX 970:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GTX-970-Graphics-Express/dp/B00NOP536Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427549040&sr=8-1&keywords=MSI+GTX+970

Also, do not just buy a SSD, you will need a HDD aswel, I'd recommend only using your SSD for your OS, and other programs you use all the time and would like to preform faster. Your SSD will become very slow quickly otherwise, and need replacing frequently (I have found any ways!)

These are all my opinions btw, its not fact, just opinion.

Also, keep in mind you have a Mini ITS and a mini tower, make sure all of your parts will fit in there before purchasing
