Practically any wireless USB or Bluetooth keyboard should work. I have this keyboard for my HTPC: http://amzn.com/B002H0BOBA
I got it at a local Fry's a few years ago, and I don't think it was that expensive. You could probably find something better and cheaper if you look around a bit.

Another option, if you have an Android or iOS phone or tablet, is to use Sony's Video & TV Sideview app. It has a remote built into the app, which will let you use the phone / tablet keyboard.

A third option, which I haven't done but have thought about, is to get a DualShock 4 controller. That should pair with the TV, and should be a little easier to use with the on-screen keyboard than the remote.

I know you are looking for a remote, but I haven't looked back after purchasing this:

I would personally move from a 128GB SSD to 256GB. I checked my current HTPC's C drive and it looks like I am currently using about 120GB of space on it and it doesn't have anything special installed (my movies, etc. are stored on a secondary drive).

You'd hate to run out of space on that drive down the road and have to upgrade it (like for Windows 10).

edit: also, this wireless keyboard is better (my opinion): http://www.amazon.com/Multimedia-Keyboard-Trackball-Wireless-GKM561R/dp/B002H0BOBA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426362769&sr=8-1&keywords=iogear+keyboard

I have used this model for years and it has worked very well from my recliner.

Well... it's more expensive but I have one of these: IOGEAR Multimedia Keyboard with Laser Trackball

It's awesome and I definitely recommend it. Very well built.

If you just use your computer as a monitor and you do get a wireless mouse/keyboard as others have suggested get this wireless keyboard/mouse in one, it is amazing!

It is $45 but if all you end up needing is an HDMI cable (hopefully that is the case) then it will still be a total of $50 or so.

I looked into google tv, apple tv, roku and boxee box and both had too many content limitations and or recurring costs for me personally. But of course if your computer and TV don't have the connections you need then those would be the next place to turn to. Good luck with your quest!

I have had a IOGEAR GKM561R for a couple of weeks now and I like it. http://www.amazon.com/Multimedia-Keyboard-Trackball-Wireless-GKM561R/dp/B002H0BOBA/ref=pd_cp_e_3

Ram

Keyboard

HTPC

Then just wait for a nice deal on a SSD and external HD (3TB).

You have very specific requirements. I don't think such a keyboard exists.

I'm very happy with my Iomega Wireless Keyboard: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002H0BOBA/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1381245702&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

THIS

I have bought 2 of them. I got tired of the lag from those shitty other keyboard/mice and the full-sized peripherals. This thing is a godsend for when you're using a HTPC or Media Center. Even better on the couch!

The only issue I have with it, is the keyboard layout is slightly different then a regular compact keyboard, so I sometimes have to look at it. Other than that, this is perfect for me. 9/10

Or, you get one of these and use the other connector for a game pad.

u/dragonblade629 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

What purpose is the Raspberry Pi for? If it's a media center, for example, I'd reccomend getting a wireless keyboard, probably Bluetooth, and a small wireless laser mouse to go with it. Or, you could go with a keyboard like this with a trackball built into the keyboard. With something small and one piece like that, it'd be easy to hide it so you don't have a keyboard just lying about.

Sure thing!

Case/Power Supply: Foxconn MiniITX Case 150W Power Supply

Motherboard: ASRock Mini-ITX HDMI FM1 Sata III USB 3.0
link

CPU/GPU: AMD A6-3500

Memory: G-Skill 4GB DDR3 1333

Awesome HTPC Keyboard that I like:
link

Then buy the Crucial SSD and BluRay drive you have listed.
Since the CPU/GPU sips power, I didn't notice any problems with the provided 150W power supply providing enough power to all my components.
If you do end up choosing that FoxConn case, make sure you remove the optical drive/hard drive cage first thing, then install your drives, then pop the cage back in. It's a nice little case, I like the look of it.

Also, optionally (for budget sake), you can go micro-ATX which is a bit cheaper
(but this motherboard doesn't have SATA III or USB 3.0, which are pretty neat).

Micro-ATX Motherboard option: ASRock MicroATX FM1 HDMI

Then you can choose whatever Micro-ATX (or ATX) case you like, although I do prefer the small footprint of the mini-ITX. In fact, I'm going to build a custom wooden case for a revamp on my current mini-itx HTPC.

So to sum it up, the complete build that I just did for my sister included:
Foxconn Case w/ 150W power supply
ASRock Mini-ITX motherboard
AMD A6 processor
GSkill 4GB RAM
Crucial M4 64GB SSD
BluRay Drive
HTPC Keyboard

Total was $418 with tax and shipping. Hope this helped! Also, make sure you get the SSD. They are worth EVERY PENNY.

I have a Logitech K400 for the family room and a K830 for my bedroom.

Everyone in my house loves the K400 and it handles being treated like a remote (tossed on the couch, falling on the rug etc) very well.

Only thing is this: I personally turn off tap to click, tap to drag and a bunch of other stuff to keep me from accidentally clicking and dragging and zooming whenever I touch the touchpad. But the K400's software (SetPoint) doesn't retain its settings very well and I find myself doing all that crap anyway and having to re-apply my settings quite often.

So if you're considering the K400, I suggest focusing on the K400 Plus which is basically the same thing but uses newer software that actually retains whatever settings you want.

The K830 is very nice but it's pricey and was a bit of a splurge. The backlight is great, the software (Logitech Options) retains its settings and it has a premium feel to it. Honestly though, its a very close experience to the K400/K400 plus so I wouldn't spring for anything besides a 50 dollar refurbished one.

Just for reference, I've also used a Lenovo N5902. Although backlit, the sensor thingy was pretty awkward to use so I upgraded to this Iogear Multimedia Keyboard. It was comfortable to use but the trackball didn't survive long being used my my gf's kids. The keycaps would pop off as well. I've also used just a wireless keyboard and mouse which was a pain.

What VR desktop software are you using? I've tried a bunch but find motion controller mouse control and the lack of cellphone like input with the touchpads limiting. I am currently using this. https://www.amazon.com/Multimedia-Keyboard-Trackball-Wireless-GKM561R/dp/B002H0BOBA It is great for mouse control but keyboard input is still difficult.
