What I do now is stack projects on the floor. What I would like to do is have a set of flat project boxes with lids like these that are made for scrapbooking. What I should do is make fabric baskets to store projects that will use stash without adding more plastic to my life. I'm afraid that out of sight items will never get done, and neither will the baskets!

I use plastic project cases to store things on a shelf. They become sort of like file folders.

I have a set of them with the following components:
-maps & tourist brochures
-mailing envelopes & cardboard
-stationery
-random notebooks

I stand mine on end.

For my sewing supplies, I have these rectangular food storage containers with lids, and I stack them and use them like removable drawers.

(The ones I got, they don't make anymore; they have ridges on the side to help them stack, but not on the front, and so you can pull them out of the stack easily, almost like drawers. Most similar rectangular food storage containers have ridges all the way around, but if those ridges are not too high, they'd probably work that way too.)

I use those for sewing supplies, but they'd be good to stack with office supplies too. I like being able to pull the whole thing out to pick out a thread or find the sewing tool, or just to hold all the basic tools in one place as I work.
