As others have pointed out, the connection is bad. It's triggering the pin that wired headsets use to indicate a button press. Like the others I'd recommend Bluetooth.

After wasting a lot of money on Bluetooth headphones that would quickly crap out when they got sweaty, I just got cheap $8 indestructible earphones plus a $20 Bluetooth clip on receiver. They're cheap enough that I bought multiple sets just to have spares lying around. If they break, I don't care, but they've actually lasted about two years by now.

These are my go to running headphones. They sound pretty decent for their dirt-cheap price and hold up pretty well to sweat.

I got these because they're dirt cheap and durable. They're simple so there's not much to break and if they do I don't mind replacing them. They come with different size earpieces so you can pick which fits you. I also wrap the cord around my ear for extra security.

If you want Bluetooth, I just use an adapter like this one. Along the same lines, it's cheap and simple.
