For a first drone I'd recommend something below $100. The drone you picked is not one I've flown, but it has nice reviews, and a reasonable price. One thing about camera drones though is that the camera will generally make it more expensive, heavier, and more battery intensive. That means it might not fly for as long as you want it too, but that depends on what you want to use it for. The Syma X5C has a 3.7V 500mAh battery, giving it a 7 minute flight time.

The FAA requires all drones above 0.55 lbs to be registered. This costs about $10 and five minutes. As I mentioned earlier, camera drones in general are heavier, meaning that they will need to be registered. The X5C will need to be registered.

All in all, this is a nice drone. I think you'll enjoy it. I suggest getting something like this. A greater quantity of larger batteries will help with the low flight time and long charge time. So if you're out and about you can just bring a few of these along to fly for longer. With RC batteries the voltage needs to remain the same, that's the power of the battery. The mAh of a battery is the 'capacity', and can be changed, but be careful not choose one too large or you risk hurting the drone. These are a bit larger and won't hurt your drone.

I think you'll like this drone. I hope you have fun!

Got one as a starter for myself, moved up to a 250 and also bought an FPV cam for the Syma, tons of fun and never have to worry about the thing breaking, you'll love it. I would recommend getting this battery & charger combo. Each battery gives me about an 8 min flight and with 6 batteries you'll get a lot of flying time in quickly

Yup! Glad you asked. In this subreddit, everyone loves the good ol' Syma X5C at $45. It has a camera, but (sigh) almost every single drone now days has a cheap camera on it. Anyway, cameras usually don't matter on drones this size. Speaking of size, it's not a small or huge drone. I believe it's about a foot in width and length. The Syma X5 is the most popular drone on Amazon for a reason. If you want to have even more fun flying it, I suggest you buy some extra batteries. This is a great drone to get.

Florida solves that problem. A little bit too well, due to the equator. Problem is I live by a lot of undeveloped land which is basically a mini desert, surrounded by trees but that means wind kills me and the batteries. I bought (https://www.amazon.com/Keenstone-battery-Charger-Cheerson-Quadcopters/dp/B01736NLB8/ref=pd_sim_21_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=1SG2JENG710H7WJH1C3G) and they seem to work well. but the other day I took off the blade guards and the landing gear because I wanted to get it at top speed. The wind had different ideas and decided to shove me down because I was tilted so far forwards. one of the engines broke so I took it apart and I am ordering (https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-Propellers-Propeller-Protectors-Quadcopter/dp/B011TF2F7U/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1487166117&sr=8-10&keywords=syma+x5c+motor) does anybody know if these motors use more power than the stock ones, I know the page says there upgraded but how much?
