My Klipsch IMAGE S4s are the best I've ever owned. They've made it through two deployments and multiple accidental washes with no problem and still sound great. Unfortunately they have been discontinued, but it looks like you can still pick them up on Amazon while supplies last:

I've heard good things about the S4i-IIs but I haven't tried a pair myself. Might be worth a shot, they are $55 on Amazon right now:

These are my personal favorite that I use. http://amzn.com/B008X8HZZO

My favorite topic - I'm a headphone nut (not Bt headset) and never put my phone to my head... I also compulsively listen to podcasts and music in transit so have them in all the time. That said, I've never seen a mute button on a cord. I'd love that and have thought it for years but I compulsively use the phone's mute.

My favorites (...and always buy these on sale):

Let alone something half decent like the Klipsch Image S4i-II ($50) or the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 ($100).

Whats the difference between Klispch S4i and Kilspch S4i premium?

the volume controls and the play pause button. But if you want some good earbuds that have good sound try these. I can wear them all day long and my ears never hurt. I dont know if the volume control works, because my pair only has 1 long button.

After 9 long years with my Sennheiser HD 202s, it's time for a change.

The run down:

  • studying/concentration (noise-cancellation)
  • commutable/portable
  • mic for iPhone

  1. Etymotic's Hf3 @ $150 USD
  2. Shure's SE215 @ $98 w/ mic cable (+$48)
  3. Klipsch's S4i @ $75

I'd get these, personally. I've purchased 2 pairs of the original S4is and absolutely love them. As far as I can tell, the only difference with the IIs is the flat cable. Tangling is a big issue on the ones that I have, so the flat cable could be an improvement.

Ok guys so given the following, which would you choose in terms of performance/price ratio?

I have a pair of hammerheads, and they are 'ok'. I wouldn't go much further than that. Probably alright for the cost. The bass is extremely heavy, which can make some of the sounds seem muddy or distorted. This isn't really an issue if you are only going to be playing games with them, for an on-the-go gamer with a laptop they're a lot more convenient than a proper overear headset.

For a pair of 'gaming IEMs', they'll do the job just fine. If you're looking for a more all-rounder pair of earbuds with very decent bass but also very high clarity, the Klipsch S4i-II's are super, super good for the price and tend to be my go-to pair. (i own both btw, and I tend to use the Klipsch's a good deal more just because they sound better).

You won't get close to your Starcraft headset, but they are decent. I'd look around before committing to buying them though.

I use Klipsch Image S4i-II Black In-Ear Headphones https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008X8HZZO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_7PkLxb3A3JJHC

They are pretty small and come with interchangeable ear buds of various sizes. You can also buy the nicer foam earoller buds if you want.

The cord is flat so it's less likely to tangle and it has a little volume control and play/pause button unit in the cord so it's easy to change songs or whatnot without taking your phone/Ipod out of your pocket.

And I would definitely recommend in the ear headphones for working out. I feel like the over the ear type are just too big and would get in the way during some lifts or I'd be worried about them falling off constantly.

I'm considering a purchase of some Klipsch S4i's, but I've been told I can get some better IEM's for around the same price ($55).

I listen to a wide variety of music (with the exception of rap/hip-hop), but mostly lean towards classical and electronica, with some rock in between.

Should I take the plunge, or are there better options around the same price?
