I personally don't know much about the Micca MB42, but the Klipsch R-15M is $187 right now. the Klipsch R-14M is $170. I really like the sound of the Klipsch R-15M.

u/BeardedAlbatross · 5 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Alright, your TV has RCA outputs and the option of fixed or variable output through there. If you wanted you could just grab two JBL LSR305 and connect them with RCA to TRS cables. Probably $450 total but would sound much better than the miccas. Go into your TV audio settings and select variable audio out. This way you can change volume through your TV remote. Just set the amp on the back of the JBL speakers to 8 or so and never touch them again.

If you want to go the passive speaker route for upgradability then you can grab a stereo receiver like this Yamaha for $200. Just plug your TV in with RCA cables. This allows you to spend an extra $100 on speakers. You'll save even more money if you look through your local listings for a used receiver. If you like the Klipsch sound you can go for these. Otherwise look through your local listing for a good tower speaker that you can afford. I was going to recommend the Pioneer FS52 but a pair of those would go over your budget. You can try pairing them with a cheap SMSL amp, but I would be worried they would distort a tad early.

The best sounding setup out of the box would be the JBL LSR305, but it's also the least upgradeable setup.

u/ctfrommn · 4 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Agree with Aco2504 on the passive + amp option. I would spend the vast majority of that $200 on speakers and get a cheap BT amp.

Speakers for $160 would include....

Klispch R15M's - dynamic, forward sound

Pioneer BS22's - laid back, "musical" sound

Fluance SX6 - good all around sound

Stretch your budget a little and get much better sounding....

Wavecrest HVL-1 - $160 plus shipping ($20-30 I would imagine). Very well designed, neutral freq response, and incredible midrange.

Here is the product detail for the Wavecrests

u/umdivx · 3 pointsr/hometheater

Fair enough.

With your budget I'd say something like this....

Receiver: Denon S540BT for $150 fro A4L

Subwoofer: Dayton Sub1500 for $198

that leaves you $120 to $150 for a pair of bookshelf speakers. Not the best budget in the world (prefer $300/pair) but for that range

Kilpsch R-15M's

Polk Audio TSi100's

If you can find them on sale the ELAC Debut 2.0's

They'll be slightly above $500 but not by much.

u/Armsc · 3 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

You want a setup for house parties (rap/EDM) for $250-500 might as well call it $500.

  1. Don't get powered monitors...just get passives and an AVR or Stereo receiver.

  2. What are your sources? If you're going to hook up a TV or digital sources I would just get an AVR and be done with it.

  3. I would look at towers or efficient books since you want this for house parties.

  4. A sub is a must and I would forget everything you mentioned save for the Dayton 12"

I don't do used recommendations but you're welcome to shop the used market there are some great deals out there.

Here is what I would do.

  • Speakers- Klipsch RM15 $125 These will get super loud with a 94dB efficiency or you could sub out the Klipsch (harsh tweeters in my book) for the BIC DV62 $110. The BIC won't get as loud but will do pretty good with a 90dB efficiency.

  • AVR - Pioneer VSX530 refurb $130

  • Sub -BIC F12 $220 - The F12 is about the best sub for that price range. You'll want the better sub for the house parties.
u/sharkamino · 3 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

The Miccas are good for computer use. Edifier R1280DB $130 have more connectivity, optical input and bluetooth in addition to aux in and a remote.

Or start with a mini amp and passive speakers.

I recently upgraded from an LP60 to a LP1240 (secondhand) and I've been seriously underwhelmed and am having problems.

The LP60 sounded crisper with cleaner sound which shouldn't be the case for a much more expensive table with a cartridge costing more than the previous table all together.

The 1240 wasn't nearly loud enough so I had to add a preamp, I know there is a built in one but after trying every possible Line/phono config it still was't giving me the volume the LP60 had.

Also I am getting a loud hum which I can't seam to figure out. I attracted a ground wire from the turntable to the preamp which reduced hum but is still prevalent. I'm almost positive this hum is stemming from the turntable itself as when I used the LP60 with the amp there was no hum whatsoever and the hum is still there when the preamp isn't connected.

Been reading for the past few hours and decided on this as a basic setup:

Speakers

Receiver
Is this a good choice instead of using a preamp + amp? As for future growth, can it handle more powerful speakers + subwoofer?

Turntable

Basically, is there anything else I need to set this up (aside from records)? Also, will it be a setup that can grow reasonably if this is something I choose to upgrade components of?

u/vaper7777 · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

I like tube stuff - I would get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Stereo-Hybrid-Tube-Amplifier-Integrated/dp/B078J8KJD9/

It uses a tube preamp section, with solid state output. You would run your computer to it via either USB or BT. Your record player would go to the RCA inputs on the back. You would need to get a record player that has "line level" RCA outputs. Those are common these days.

Re: speakers, I have two sets of Klipsch speakers that I like. I would maybe suggest these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00LMF41IY/

I would use the Best Buy gift cards to get RCA cables and speaker wire, maybe speaker stands. Or, some IEM's (earphones).

Hope this helps! It's just one person's idea - and best wishes for college!

Start yourself off easy, you can go nuts with rear channels, floor speakers, and even Atmos later. Be careful taking advice on other subwoofers, a sealed 12 inch model is incredibly hard to beat in terms of accuracy. Ported units can go deeper and cheaper but will never be as good for music unless they are servo units, which turns cheaper into more expensive instantly.

u/homeboi808 · 2 pointsr/hometheater

Unless I'm reading it wrong, you can get the Klipsch R-15M, for cheaper than the JBL's, in America the Klipsch are usually $50 USD more. Now, Klipsch are typically bright, but the recent models are reportedly a bit better. I had an older (mid 90's) pair of Klipsch bookshelves and center, and I didn't mind them that bright, so no worries either way.

I'd save money and get the Klipsch speakers, and also get the Klipsch sub.

u/_Dozier_ · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Denon S540BT - $150

Only leaves you $250 for LR and Center. I agree Klipsch would be great, just not sure you can find LR&C for $250. I think the two links below would be close.

Klipsch R25C- Center - $160

Klipsch R15M - $150

I would try Wavecrest HVL-1 $80/each if you need to stay close to budget as another alternative to the Micca's.

Klipsch RM14 speakers are on sale

For a little more, get the RM15 pair

both could go lower when Prime Day starts? but decent sales, especially on the RM15 which are at their historic low price right now.

both of these are passive, you'll need something to drive them

u/ldeas_man · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

for the price, the LSR305 and sub is the best value at the $500 mark

you used euro, so I'm gonna link german amazon. Klipsch R-15M is a decent speaker. there's probably better for €200, but you won't be disappointed. the Auna AV2 looks pretty nice, but I've never actually used or seen too much of it, but the reviews seem good and it looks pretty good. Pioneer A-10 is also a good option. those two plus tax will probably hit your budget (not sure how much tax is), but if you have some money, it might be worth grabbing a sub

you can also try a different pair of powered speakers. these Edifiers are pretty decent as well, and they're well within your budget if you don't actually want to spend the full 500

u/chilighost · 2 pointsr/vinyl

I'm wondering if I can get some help/advise in regards to speakers for my Fluance RT81 that is currently on order. I have narrowed it down to these two sets: Fluance Signature Series Bookshelf Speakers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A5UB4JU/ref=twister_B01BKWQW3A?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speakers: https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15M-Bookshelf-Speaker-Pair/dp/B00LMF41IY/

Both seem to be passive speakers so I would need an amp as well apparently. I don't plan to connect them to a AV receiver - just the turntable and speakers. Can anyone recommend a good amp for this setup? I found this one on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/ART-DJPREII-Audio-Turntable-Preamplifier/dp/B000AJR482/) which seems to get decent reviews.

I am new to vinyl but I want speakers that have some good bass to them (without a sub) since I won't be connecting to a receiver. Which of these speakers will provide the best highs and enough bass?

Any recommendations would be helpful - thank you!

u/starkimpossibility · 2 pointsr/audiophile

JBL LSR305 are $235 at Amazon at the moment. Hard to do much better than that given your budget. If you prefer an amp/passive speaker setup, consider pairing the SMSL SA-60 with something like the Klipsch R-15M.

u/raistlin65 · 2 pointsr/BudgetAudiophile

Passive speakers is the term you're looking for.

Swap your Dell gift cards for Amazon gift cards. Your option #3 is $800 on Dell. Cardpool will give you a $695 Amazon gift card for $800 worth of Dell gift cards. That might sound like a crappy exchange, but Dell is HUGELY overcharging for those speakers.

$702 on Amazon will get you the same center speaker and better LR and sub.

Just another option to throw around. :)

u/gullibletrout · 2 pointsr/hometheater

I had those bookshelf speakers for two years and they were ok. I just upgraded to these Klipsch speakers. I was lucky enough to get them two weeks ago for $125 through Amazon Warehouse. It's a night/day difference and I couldn't be happier with the upgrade.

u/JimboLodisC · 1 pointr/vinyl

Yeah so don't even go by digital vs vinyl. Not a straight comparison since they're mastered differently.

Now, if the record playing through your KLH speakers isn't much better than a bluetooth speaker, then I'd say it's time for new speakers. I know JBL can make great stuff but a pair of bookshelf speakers shouldn't be worse than a BT speaker. Since you've already got a receiver, going with some new passive bookshelf speakers will be a bit more affordable. Something like Klipsch's R-14M's for $150 or the bigger R-15M's for about $172 would sound pretty good. Or you can go with the powered version (it's usually around $350 so wait for a better price) and ditch the receiver for a more compact rig. The powered R-15PM's have a built-in phono preamp, optical input, bluetooth, and AUX input with a remote for volume and source switching. It also has a port for a sub in case you feel like adding one in the future.

Also, have you considered using a headphone amp for personal listening? Grab a Schiit Magni for $99 and pair it with a nice set of ATHM50's or DT 770's.

u/DeezoNutso · 1 pointr/hometheater

Is this for hometheater use or more for music? If you want hometheater I would look at getting a Denon like this

https://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVRS530BT-Channel-Ultra-Receiver/dp/B06XYD1RZ3/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1505740468&sr=1-5&keywords=denon+receiver

which leaves you with 282$ for the speakers.

I can always recommend those Klipsch speakers for 190$

https://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-15M-Bookshelf-Speaker-Pair/dp/B00LMF41IY/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1505740540&sr=1-2&keywords=klipsch+r-15m

and you should really look into getting a sub for hometheater, your speakers will sound much better if they don't need to produce bass.

https://www.amazon.com/Dayton-Audio-SUB-1000-10-Inch-Subwoofer/dp/B0063NU3AA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1505740753&sr=8-1&keywords=dayton+subwoofer

This is a good sub for the price.

What do you think of these? Klipsch R-15M

u/opt_out_kiwi · 1 pointr/audiophile

Hi I'm looking to start getting into some newer speakers, moving on from my old logitech computer speakers.

Was thinking of getting these klipsch speakers for a basic book shelf start.

I was suggested to get this amp

As a side note I've got these head phones, sennheiser HD 558 so I'm trying to use an amp that I can use well with those too.

u/thesneakywalrus · 1 pointr/audiophile

RB-15's are only $209 a pair on Amazon.

u/msuts · 1 pointr/turntables

If you want really, really affordable, the Parts Express Lepy 2020TI + Dayton B652 bundle for $50 gets you good sound for stupid cheap. Or you can get that Lepy amp standalone, as it's a solid budget unit, and pair it with something like the Pioneer SP-BS22-LR speakers, which are a great pair of bookshelf speakers for $100. The Klipsch R-15M are a great pair for a little over $150.

Also:

Sony SCSS5 - https://www.amazon.com/Sony-SSCS5-3-Driver-Bookshelf-Speaker/dp/B00O8YLMVA $138

BIC Venturi DV62si - https://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-DV62si-Bookshelf-Speakers/dp/B00006JPDI $117

Polk S15, refurbished - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TJ4D2LZ/ref=dp_cr_wdg_tit_rfb $166

Yamaha NS-6490 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00018Q4GA $130

Fluance SX6W - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00067OS0A $130

M-Audio AV42 - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X741TB0 $150

Or you could look for vintage, but bookshelf speakers tended to either be gigantic and heavy (like my Bozak B-201 or B-402, which are bookshelf speakers in name only) or sound weak.

u/brazen8 · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

Here are my two cents. Similar to option 3, I'd get a decent receiver with a phono stage and a decent pair of speakers.

Onkyo TX-8220 - CDN$ 279.99

This amp should sound pretty darn good and it has optical inputs for when you'd like to connect a TV, an output for a sub-woofer, and a phono stage for your turntable. It costs less than the A-9010 and allows you to get better speakers, which is where you find the most improvement per dollar spent.

For speakers those the Fluance Signature Series are well regarded and should sound great.

Fluance Signature Series - CDN$ 265.99

These Klipsch speakers are also a good choice. They're more sensitive so should play louder. They are definitely on the brighter side and some don't prefer their sound signature. I have a pair and I do enjoy them.

Klipsch R-15M Bookshelf Speaker - CDN$ 248.00

This puts you a tad over your CDN$ 500 budget, but I think you'd be happy with these.

u/DlckAnthony · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

So this is what I've gathered so far for the first round of buys...

Receiver: Yamaha RX-V381

L/R: KEF 100 or Klipsch R-15M

Center: ???

Sub: Dayton Audio SUB-1200

I already feel like I'm going to be blowing my budget out of the water... but a little of that is ok. Any ideas of KEF vs Klipsch and also a center speaker?

u/grizzlybee · 1 pointr/hometheater

These Klipsch R-15M are on sale for $160 plus the Denon receiver recommended for $150 would put you at $310 for a very nice set up. Higher end of your budget, but it'd probably be worth it.

u/SodaSnake · 1 pointr/audiophile

I'm really beginning to consider picking these up. Half-price is very appealing. But I'm also really considering getting these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LMF41IY?ref_=ams_ad_dp_ttl

However, for $50 less for something with a value of $100 more, I'm not sure. I only have experience with Polk with my PSW10, but my roommate has a Klipsch system for his computer and they sound really nice.

So to Polk or to Klipsch??

You'll need a record player, wether that is by means of free or purchase, you most likely need an amp also, and speakers.
I would recommend the Audio Technica AtLp60. It's cheap at 100 bucks but gets the job done. Next get an amp. For both of these, look to Amazon. Pick up a used or open box Sony Strdh190. If you don't have one, get an Amazon card, use the gift card to help defray the cost. You could get a beans new amp for less that 100. I recommend this one cause it has a phono input. The AT60 I recommend has a preamp I believe, so you'll actually want to hook it up to input 1. But, this allows you to upgrade your turntable if you come across something better at a thrift store or from a friend later. Not all turntables have preamps, if they don't, hook it to the phono input. If they do, line 1.
If you choose to get into cassettes or CD, you also have inputs for those decks as you come across them cheap.
Speakers. With this setup, you'll want speakers that can handle the newer power levels of a modern amp. 100watts. 6 or 8 ohms. Something like a pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers. The RM 15 I believe is a affordable, new, good sounding speaker. Or some Polks of the same power.
All this, and your set. This isn't going to be everyone's setup, but it gets you started, listenable sound, and upgradable. All this can be had relatively affordable. 100 for the turntable, 125 for the speakers, and less than 150 for the amp if you buy it new. Until you understand more about turntables, avoid used is my suggestion, buy affordable new, nothing to do but follow the instructions.

These are all direct to Amazon links. Look in the used sections to get a deal on some of these and save a few bucks.
Someone mentioned it already also. Do this to love the music. Don't collect records to collect records, it's a rabbit hole of money. Just but the bands you like. Listen to an album online before you buy it to see if you'll like it if you don't know who they are. About the elusive 1dollar bin at the record store. Those records may or may not be in great shape, and do you REALLY care about polkas greatest hits from 1963? All your dad or uncles what they listen to and look for some of those records to rock out to.
Good luck. Hope this helps.

PS, my prices mentioned and names of equipment were approximate, go with what's in the links.

It isn't hate for Razer, it is hate for all the low quality brands that gamers love to buy their audio from.

Try looking into bookshelf speakers, and /r/audiophile has a purchase advice thread to post and search through.

Here is something I threw together in a few seconds, speakers, amp and dac, you might need some cabling too (I have no idea if this is a good setup). Hopefully someone else who knows speaker can help.

  1. Sure. I'm not too familiar with what's' available in Germany, but with the new wave of cheap Chinese amps you can drop a good deal on speakers without worrying too much about the budget for an amp.

  2. Because soundbars are just the same crappy speakers that are already in TV's. They're just placed forward so instead of reflecting off the wall, they project directly to the viewer. The reason they garner so much hate is because they are literally just 50 cent speakers in a bad cabinet with a cheap amp, and cost far more than they should for the parts, and the sound they produce.

    Get a pair of these:

There are also some Klipsch deals for those who like their sound. These are their bookshelf speakers 50% off. I know people usually hate on Klipsch as far as value for the money, but I think I’ve read that at these prices they may be a great value for the money.

I'm a Klipsch man myself Playing on a Pro-Ject Debut carbon with a 2M Blue stylus.

I own these but they are about $20 outside your budget with tax and shipping unless you have Prime. They sound pretty amazing but it will depend on the size of your room. Well worth the price

These are in your budget but I can't speak to them as I don't own them.

Correct answer: sell them.

More expensive, not very smart, but fun answer: buy a sealed car audio box built for 2 10" subs and a 300 watt subwoofer plate amp from partsexpress.com. Figure out if you are able to wire them to an acceptable resistance (ohms) first though. Once they are in the box and connected to the plate amp, connect the plate amp to a receiver you can find at goodwill (or the Yamaha R-S202). Connect the receiver to a pair of speakers (goodwill find or the Klipsch R-15M). Connect your phone to the receiver with a 3.5mm to RCA cable. Rock the h*ck out.

Hi all!

I'm moving to a new apartment (located in San Francisco) and looking to purchase some speakers for our living room. The living room is about 18'x14'.

I have been very confused in the process of getting speakers. I am thinking that I will go the bookshelf speaker mount and get two bookshelf speakers, a receiver, and maybe a sub. I currently don't have any gear.

I was hoping to do this for ~300 dollars (very open to buying used), and if under 300 that would be great also. I listen to a lot of hip hop so bass is important and we expect to have a lot of parties so really want something that sounds good, and loud and fills up the room well :)

My parents have the Bose 301-V bookshelf speakers and I have to say that their living room is definitely bigger and more open and the speakers are quite loud with a ton of bass. It seems that this could be a great start.

What do you guys think? I also really like the look of the Klipsch bookshelf speakers. Am open to anything, Polk, Micca, Pioneer, Sony, etc. I am thinking to rule out the floorstanding speakers for now until I get a bigger place. Just confused on what bookshelf speakers to get, and if a sub would be necessary. Thanks for all the help!
