Before you do this. Prepare in the right way, by saying that I mean clean the metal area, have some paperthingish in the background so the paint doesn't go were it not supposed to be.
For the paint I would use some of Krylon paints. I would recommend this one https://www.amazon.com/Krylon-Shimmer-Metallic-11-5-Ounce-Purple/dp/B00F9LDWZA but it's obviously depends what tone and colour you want.
Then when it comes to the actual spraying I would recommend you spray short taps with a distance about 20cm/8 inches.
