You've probably seen this already but these white boards would be much cheaper to ship than conventional ones.
What is special about the surge protectors you offer?
Put some peel and stick whiteboard stuff on your laptop (or better yet a removable shell) to have a white board handy anywhere you take your laptop.
There are a couple interesting options when it comes to whiteboards.
There's adhesive backed rolls available. The biggest problem is getting a quality surface to put it on. The hardboard surface discussed below would be a great mounting surface.^1
If you're nostalgic for chalk boards they're available as peel and stick too. ^2 Scraping your fingernails across them doesn't sound like death cry on slate boards. Again, finding a good surface to put it on can be an issue.
4'x8' (32 square feet!!) hardboard sheets are cheap ($13) but not professional quality.^3 It's great for giving the kids a wall to write on!!
You can figure out 'Reddit' but you need help searching Amazon?
I didn't even go to Amazon, I typed whiteboard sticker in google and this was the first hit.

I got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009M3EIAY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00 ($6 cheaper at the time). I'm not at home so I can't post a picture, but it's a decent size. You could buy multiple of these and they blend in quite well with the wall. Or, you could outline it with fancy tape if you wanted it separated (to avoid accidently writing/erasing onto the regular wall. I've found it works amazingly well, even on slightly bumpy wall, which mine is rather bumpy.)
I used three of these to cover a mirror closet door and it's been working well. Tracking still gets a little weird when I'm right up against it but that isn't often. Plus, white board space!
There might be some stick on vinyl dry erase board's out there
We stuck one of these to our refrigerator, works great!

What I have in my home office.
What I'd recommend if you're not in a permanent place.
Everyone else has talked about cards, but for prototyping game boards, I highly recommend snagging a game with a board at a thrift store and buying one of these and sticking it to the board. Instant dry erase game board, so you can change things as often as you want. It works really well!
