If you want to stick Dell though you could get a laptop from the Dell XPS line. They are good laptops, for the most part, lightweight, thin, lots of power great cooling. Its only issue that turns people off is QC issues. Complaints have gone down recently though

If you're actually thinking about buying an Apple computer you shouldn't. I have a Lenovo Yoga 720 and at a comparable price to the lower end Macbooks like the Air, it competes with the top-end ones on specs. Larger, higher resolution screen with not much extra weight, full touchscreen with good pen support, solid battery life, an actual GPU, and better compatibility with software.

I am in the exact same situation and I also very much like the Aero 15. If money isn't an issue for you, go for it, because as you said, the hardware won't be outdated any time soon, so I think you're good for 5+ years of fairly good performance.
However, if you want something a little less expensive, I found that the Lenovo Yoga 720 offers pretty high specs for a pretty low price.

I would suggest you get i5 CPU for your usage with 8 GB of Ram for smooth work experience like in those

The xps 13 is a very good laptop with it’s battery runtime, lightweight, touch screen and the powerful processor but I think you might need a dGPU for your usage. There aren’t many options, the swift 3 offers very good specs for the price but it’s 14 inch. In my opinion the best option for you would be the Yoga 720 as it has everything you need with the powerful processor and the GTX 1050 GPU with a 4k touch screen all in a 2 in 1 very durable and light chassis.

I agree too, that this version of Lenovo Yoga 720 could be the best choice.

I'm using the Lenovo Yoga 720 15" for uni and gaming. i5/i7 HQ CPU, GTX1050 GPU, 265 nvmE SSD and 8gb ram- good for 1080p gaming and more than enough for uni use. 2in1 tablet mode is also very helpful for taking notes on pdf files in class. Its definitely larger and heavier than the Air (I used to have one too), but its on the smaller/lighter side of 15" laptops and the battery life is very solid.

I don't understand why the gtx1080 box is cheaper than the 1070, but whatever.. Only $100 more for the 1080 than the 1060. I have no idea, but it seems like a good deal : \

I just need to figure out if it will work together. I'll probably be dragging my feet for a month or three. In the meantime, maybe NMS will get the shit optimized out of it and will run adequately enough for me without needing the egpu box (ha ha).

Video editing is very demanding especially when done extensively. You will need a powerful laptop with preferably a quad core i7 processor, 8 GB RAM or more, a solid dedicated graphics card, good display quality and an SSD will help much. Based on what fits your weight criteria, I have two options available to you.

This Lenovo Yoga 720 Premium 2-in-1 laptop and this Dell XPS 15 9560 .. The Lenovo 's specs are perfect for what you want and of course, it is a 2 in one! The downfall with this laptop though is that it can become quite noisy when under heavy stress.... It has 16 GB RAM, a fast 512 GB SSD, powerful 7th gen i7 quad core processor and the solid gtx 1050 graphics card..It's battery life and build quality as well as display are also very decent... The xps 15 has a beautiful display, good battery life, excellent build quality and same processor as the Lenovo but it has less RAM , smaller storage and of course, it is not a 2- in one.
