The 89 model is Gsync... only 350$ more! oof

u/centraleft · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

You have a few options but know that entry level pricing for these monitors is 400-500$. GSync is an expensive technology.

Dell is going to be cheapest but the input lag will likely be high for dell IPS monitors. Something like this would be a dream to have, and at that price point it is reasonable. Other good brands will be Acer or Asus but they will likely be most expensive. You may also checkout AOC but I've never used one of their monitors and can't vouch for the quality.

It definitely seems like a huge investment but the difference in performance is immediately noticeable. Stuttering and screen tearing become virtually non existent. Keep an eye out for sales, especially on refurb stuff, and check out /r/hardwareswap for a chance to nab something like this used.

It seems like it would be a waste to run a 1440p screen at a custom resolution cutting off the top and bottom.

If your wanting a high refresh rate ultrawide, LG just announced the 34UC89G-B Its 2560x1080, 144hz and Gsync. If all your doing is gaming and your worried about the ppi, a lot of people on here are fine with the ppi of these screens, just make sure you sit far enough back from the monitor.

Amazon has the 98G for $699. It has a newer panel than the 79G that overclocks to 166hz.

The LG 34UC89G-B is a 144 hz Ultrawide with G Sync. It's only 1080p (2K) but 144hz 1440p ultrawides aren't on the market yet.

Assuming price isn't an object, I'd highly recommend these two for gaming monitors:

If you have an AMD video card: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC79G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01LW5CGIS

If you have an NVIDIA video card: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC89G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0728JH3RQ

Both are 34-inch, 21:9 ratio, 2560x1080, 144Hz monitors with IPS panels. So they're large, wide, fast and gorgeous.

Trust me, once you play games on a 21:9 monitor, anything less feels like tunnel vision. 21:9 works flawlessly in PS2 and looks incredible.

Both monitors will also sync your refresh rate to your in-game framerate to minimize lag. But they are vid card brand specific. The first one will sync only with AMD vid cards, and the 2nd one will only sync w/ NVIDIA. But even without the frame sync they are extremely fast. Not quite as fast as the fastest TN panels, but VERY close.

Here's a good review of the AMD-tailored monitor so you can get a good idea of how it performs. It's what I use (I own an Nvidia card but it came out 1 year earlier than the Nvidia monitor and I couldn't wait). http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg_34uc79g.htm

EDIT: To answer your questions:

  • Yes, 144Hz is important, it's one of the main reasons I chose the monitor I did. It was the first 34-inch, 21:9 ratio, 2560x1080, 144Hz monitor with IPS panel. Although anything above 120Hz is "good enough" for most people.

  • Response time and input lag are both important. Read the TFTcentral review for more info on why.

  • IMO 2560x1080 is the sweet spot for gaming. You get the 21:9 ratio but the hardware requirements to run 21:9 at decent framrates is much lower than if you went with 3440x1440.

  • Panel type comes down to TN vs IPS for gaming. TN is the absolute fastest but IPS is right on its heels. And IPS panels have better colors and wider viewing angles. They just look better.

  • Nvidia G-Sync / AMD FreeSync are important since as stated above they sync your refresh rate to your in-game framerate, potentially greatly reducing your input lag.

Not exxxxxactly what you are looking for, but LG has two nice monitors out right now.

I just picked up their 31.5" g-sync 1440p monitor for myself

and this one is on sale currently: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0728JH3RQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Doesn't have all the pixels you want though

Yeah I’m running a 10 year old dell monitor and I definitely need an upgrade. I was looking at this LG 34UC89G-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor with G-SYNC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0728JH3RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i5fNAbC7NDY51

And

AOC AGON AG352UCG 35” Curved Gaming Monitor, G-SYNC, WQHD (3440x1440), VA Panel, 100Hz, 4ms, Height Adjustable, DisplayPort, HDMI, USB 3.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X9CBRTP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_VUfNAbKGMPRE1

The second monitor is on sale on new egg for $650

Doesn’t seem like either one is 4K ready though right?

u/PartyRooster · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

So I am looking to get a new monitor and [this one] ( https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC89G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0728JH3RQ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8) popped up and within my price range. It is a 34-Inch 21:9 (2560 x 1080) Curved Ultra-Wide with g-sync. Do you think the response time (5ms) is too high for a 144hz monitor?

You asked simple questions, I'm giving simple answers:

  1. The RTX 2060, 16GB, 120mm Liquid Cooler, 500GB SSD, and 4TB Hard Drive is undoubtedly the best from those options. A liquid cooler is better than the Wraith*. You can also select the overclock option**.

  2. The ability of a computer to run those games smoothly and at high levels of details depends on your monitor resolution. HD 1080P should be no problem. If you have 3 4K monitors, that's a different story.

NOTE: You specified that money is no object. The above are best on that basis, not necessarily best in terms of value.

As for monitors, you have to decide what you want in it. You could have 3-4 small ones, 2-3 medium ones, 1-2 curved ones, or a giant TV sized one. An IPS panel is generally easiest on the eyes and looks good from any angle. OLED has the best color and performance by far. TN or VA is common in cheaper monitors, but can more easily have a higher refresh rate which can be good for gaming. Asus, Dell (includes Alienware), and LG will be my top recommendations. G-Sync is good for gaming. Going off assumptions, I'd say the LG 34UC89G-B because it has G-Sync and IPS, it's also big and curved. If money is no object, you might want to go with the Alienware OLED.

I will not make a recommendation for Mice as it is completely based off personal preference and how it fits in your hand. Mechanical Keyboards and RGB Backlights are commonly sought after for gaming. The Cherry brand is generally accepted as making good mechanical switches. They have various switches with varying levels of noise and actuation pressure - which again is a personal preference. Ideally you should try out Monitors, Keyboards, and Mice in a local store.

    * AMD has 3 Wraith coolers - the Wraith Stealth, Wraith Spire, and Wraith Max - a 120mm liquid cooler is better than all of them. Except for the Wraith Max which is OK, the other Wraith coolers are garbage. There's no shortage of posts here about users getting better performance after dumping Wraith coolers. According to this
(You have to scroll nearly all the way down) the Corsair H60 (120 mm liquid cooling) is 21-28 Celsius / 38-50 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the Wraith Stealth causing the computer to run about 9% faster 3.7 ghz vs 3.4. Noctua is 10-22 degrees cooler than the Wraith Stealth. As it's not specified which of the Wraith Coolers it is, we have to assume that it's the worst.

** There is no correlation between an overclocked CPU and an unlocked CPU. An unlocked CPU can be slightly easier to overclock as it's multiplier can be raised independently of the system base clock.

I should have also mentioned that in my game room I'll have this hooked up to:LG 34UC89G-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide IPS Gaming Monitor with G-SYNC via display port as well as HDMI out to the receiver that then goes out to the projector.

It was for this card. The promo is listed down below in the "Special offers and product promotions" section.

The code came in an email with a link to eligible products. Monitors that it applies to are:

Acer Predator XB271HK

ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQ

LG 34UC89G-B

LG 32GK850G-B

It also looks like the code expires on the 31st.

I am looking for some Monitors that are good for portrait orientation. I will mainly be using this monitor for reading pdf and word documents for school so it doesn't have to have any crazy specs. This is my current monitor which I use mostly for gaming and photo editing: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC89G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0728JH3RQ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8#HLCXComparisonWidget_feature_div

I will be purchasing this stand once I figure out what monitor is best: https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Computer-Monitor-Adjustable-STAND-V032M/dp/B072MBBD1S

Heres what I use: https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC89G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0728JH3RQ

It's got both 144hz and Gsync @ 565.00 (with amazon prime)

Vs the Alienware model @ 850.00

The price point is what I went on, I've had mine for over a year and love it.

u/8bit_brain · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Thanks for bearing with my ignorance! If I'm going 3440x1440, I might get the Asus (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-ROG-SWIFT-PG348Q-3440x1440/dp/B01C83BE6U/) and deal with med-high graphics instead of ultra. I'm still looking at the LG (https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UC89G-B-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B0728JH3RQ) because of the price point though.

If you can settle for a slightly lower resolution, this one has an IPS panel

Edit: also has g-sync, which you will greatly appreciate.
