I'm talking about the other option in the link you posted before. You have the monitor with thunderbolt for $906 and the one without thunderbolt for $675. It shows the same resolution for both monitors.

The one without seems to have a decent discount over MSRP, which is still $100 cheaper than the one with thunderbolt.

Ultrawides are still pretty pricey at the moment, but for your criteria I think that the LG 34UM95C is your best bet for the budget.

I will say that 75hz is awesome, freesync is incredible for gaming, and the curved-ness of the panel not only adds immersion but really lets me see everything easier (especially for Audacity). None of those features are needed though, the UM95C will do you fine.

At a slightly higher pricepoint, the curvier Dell Ultrasharp

I've had 2 different 34" 1440p ultrawides. I have the Samsung Curved VA Seen here. Personally I didn't find the curve that important, but some do. I ended up switching to the LG IPS non-curved Seen here. If I was in the market now, I'd jump all over the Massdrop deal posted on this subreddit today, Seen here. If you don't have an acct, its the new model LG 34UM88C/34UM88-P at the low price of $499.

What's the difference between the OP and this?

I was about to pull the trigger on the 34UM95C

EDIT: It would appear as though the 34UM95C is the older model. Makes sense as to why it's a little cheaper.

I'll have to keep that in mind. I was also looking at this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ZL3D1E8/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1479742613&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=ips+3440x1440+34%22&dpPl=1&dpID=41zXnOfnhAL&ref=plSrch

No gsync and lower refresh rate but it's a 34" ultrawide so I wouldn't be getting much more than 45-75 fps on ultra settings anyways. I may have to go see these in person to decide on picture quality vs features.

Thanks for the thorough response. After getting some feedback from this post I'm looking at this monitor

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZL3D1E8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A13BNE3P7C8THK

The premium model for $200 has these ports, HDMI, Display Port, USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt 2. The "base" model however has 2 HDMI, 2 USB, 1 Display Port.

I am leaning towards the cheaper but obviously the more expensive would would have a faster refresh rate and probably be better quality.

Now on a side note, I might end up just using my dell monitor as a side monitor rather than getting rid of it.

Which LG monitor is this?

I personally use a UM95 34UM95C and haven't had any issues with mine.

At the time that I was looking for an ultrawide (I bought this in November 2015) I suppose I was lucky they were selling one for this cheap, it seems they dont have one anymore for around that price used. There is one major problem with my monitor though so I would assume that is why I got it for the price I got.

u/Bigblindguy · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Its a hard equilibrium between all of those factors. 60fps looks great but I have never had a monitor with more than that and that is why I am looking at 144hz just to see what it is like. But I can say the difference between 1440p and 1080p is a difference I would definitely fork out the extra money for. If you like the linked monitor they have a similar one Link that has 1440p IPS that might suit you better and only about $140 more but you can probably find a deal somewhere!

Looks to me like the ports are different. The non-"C" version has Thunderbolt ports and uses 56 W compared to 70 W.

Amazon lists them as "Monitor with Thunderbolt" and "Monitor without Thunderbolt."

Please link directly to the sale next time. No need to link to a blog.

Also, the C version is just without a Thunderbolt port (as far as I can tell). It's on sale even cheaper on Amazon for $613

4k screens are IMO overblown -- while they're certainly sharp, 1440p is a great middle ground for 99% of the population. I'm a designer and currently rock this, it's the best screen I've ever owned: LG Electronics UM95 34UM95C 34.0-Inch Screen LED-Lit Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZL3D1E8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_FC5rybRB0FPKV

Similar amount of screen real estate to dual monitors -- without having to deal with annoying bezels in the middle of my workspace.

That being said, I will be buying the Predator reboot slotted for an end of summer launch. Predator X34P is the name it will have if you want to look it up, no hard dates yet.
