I have a vanity with a flip top lid with a mirror on the underside. This is great because it gives me an idea of what I look like from a little distance, but the obvious drawback is that I can't see up close that well. Because the lid closes it also makes adding lighting difficult. So I got a lighted mirror. I ended up spending more than I had originally planned but after reading a ton of reviews, I was really stuck on this one and I have no regrets, it's a nice mirror, and the lighting is good. I very rarely use the magnifying side but I feel like just the regular side has improved my makeup - otoh I am spending more time at it because I can see what needs to be blended better.
