I used Liquid Latex Fashions body paint for my face, comes in a few different colors, just have to search for them individually, the main reason I chose latex is that it is A. an easy clean-up so I can head to a job after a show without too much clean-up and B. I've worked with people who use oil-based paint and it is just a mess on everyone and their gear that they work with.
As for application, I actually just apply it with my fingers at this point since that sort of works for my gimmick, but if you're looking for more clean and elaborate designs, you should be using some triangle brushes.
