Listen to this person.

Video chat is very important. If they something like "I don't have a camera" or similar. Don't listen to it, if they like you they will spend the 20$ to get a camera. Not kidding - Link

Don't listen to excuses. Ever.

u/Iowa_Dave · 5 pointsr/3Dprinting

I've been getting great results with the Logitech C270 webcam.

If you break it out of the case you'll find there is a focus ring which allows you to manually focus and get really close to prints! The ring is glued in place but will break free with a firm twist.

I designed a quick and dirty case to hold the PCB. I was going to add a nice cover but I noticed the board runs warm, so I left it open. There are plenty of prettier solutions on Thingiverse.

u/808120 · 5 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Can I suggest you a laptop that's cheap enough (with great performance) with an external camera? I just wouldn't rely on any built in webcam if you're that serious about it.

Edit:

Here's my recommendation! Get this G50 from Lenovo for $459 and get either of these cameras, Logitech C270 ($22.95) or Logitech C930e ($89.86). I've used both webcams, both great, definitely for the price too.

I got one of these cheapos, Logitech C270: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004FHO5Y6?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

Good enough for an alpha state game, I imagine.

u/TheBalcony · 3 pointsr/SSBPM

I think showing button presses and maybe having a "hand cam" can be super helpful to making sure what you are talking about makes sense.

This one of SSBM Tutorials older videos, but is I think a good guide line for beginning to make tech videos.

You can get a reasonable webcam for as cheap as $20 if you want some quality better than your phone or laptop cam.

Thanks for trying! My Chromebook is using both the embedded cam and this guy together:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FHO5Y6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - so far anything logitech has worked great.

u/CylonHunting · 2 pointsr/MPSelectMiniOwners

I too am new to 3D printing with the MP Select Mini v2 being my entry into the process. I have yet to make the bed reroute changes that everyone seems to keep suggesting, but that is next on my list now. I have done 2 things I think have made easy and "relatively" cheap improvements.

  1. Added glass to the print surface. As many people have commented both there and in this Sub the build surface can warp and/or comes warped. Glass can help resolve this and add to ease of leveling your bed. Additionally I find it much easier to get the prints off cleanly from the glass without issues getting the print to stick while printing. I do use a glue stick, which is cheap and easy to apply and remove. There are a few written guides as well as videos on how to cut/prepare the glass. I was a bit worried before diving in, but it was wayyyyy easier than I had expected. I purchased this glass cutter - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H4W6NMG and a replacement 8.5x11 glass for a frame $1.80 from a craft store. I was able to get 2 build plates out of this if only barely. Using some butterfly clamps to hold it to my build plate. Now that I have the tools and know how if my 2 glass plates break I am only out $2 and can create 2 more with another $2 rather than risking damage to the actual build plate.

  2. Octoprint (https://octoprint.org). The functional benefits may be argued, but I really enjoy it. I already had a Raspberry Pi 2, so I didn't need to purchase anything, although I did buy a WiFi adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014HTNO52) for it and a webcam (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FHO5Y6). This gives me the ability to monitor my prints from wherever and make sweet time lapse videos to make all my friends jealous with ex: https://imgur.com/8FANLEr. You can also use Octoprint as a server for uploading and managing your prints, rather than dragging your SD card between computer and printer. It also means you don't have to have a computer connected to the printer if you didn't want to go the SD route. There are also cool plugins that you can play with added for additional benefit. I added Pushbullet (https://github.com/OctoPrint/OctoPrint-Pushbullet) and configured it to send me hourly updates on the print, time left and image from webcam.

Personally I got a 3D printer to get into some of these more one off type projects, so it was well worth it IMO.
u/ChrisRK · 2 pointsr/speedrun

Logitech C920 is the go-to webcamera but it is out of your budget unless you can find a used one.

I would personally recommend the Logitech C270. I used to own it and it works great in all scenarios. I don't know anything about the C310 so I can't tell you if it's any better or worse than the C270.

u/keypenboardcil · 2 pointsr/Guitar

Do you have a webcam? That's what I'm using to record myself so I can watch my hands and identify errors that need to be fixed. I've only been playing for a year, but a few months into playing I bought a $25 logitech webcam from amazon Logitech C270 and it's really helped me improve, and I can recommend this model. I just wanted to have something that would clearly show the strings and not get too blurred, which is the problem I had with using my phone. I also use it for skype calls and whatnot, so I consider it a decent $25 investment until I get better and want "real" recording equipment. If you want to see what the recordings look like on it, you can look at some of my vids:

https://www.youtube.com/user/keypenboardcil

u/DeepFreeze180 · 2 pointsr/Darts

This $20 webcam will do the trick. Your built in camera might be good enough quality but I think you’d much prefer an external cam bc of the maneuverability.

You can start playing right away! The cam check approval is needed to enter tournaments- and yes, for that you need about 12-20 ranked games completed and then a mod needs to check it. “Ranked games” just means an equalizer or ladder match which is what most everyone plays anyway.

u/grrrimamonster · 2 pointsr/WGU_CompSci

I just bought my second Logitech c615, which I've used sparingly for years, but somehow lost in my most recent move. It's been fine for my purposes and is one of the models that WGU recommends. Although Logitech sells it for $70, it's $35.59 from Amazon and BestBuy, at least.

I can only recommend the c615 because I've used it, but the cheaper Logitech c270 looks fine too if you're really looking spend even less. It's available for ~$20 on Amazon, BestBuy, and Walmart.

EDIT: I saw the field of view for the c270 is 60 degrees, while the WGU required specs says it should be at least 70 degrees. The c615 is 78 degrees, and is one that WGU recommends anyway.

As everyone else has said--always go with the microphone first. Good audio quality is paramount to a good stream. If you're on a budget, I wouldn't recommend getting a Blue Yeti right off the bat. A lot of people think that the Blue Yeti is cruise control for great audio quality, but it requires a lot of work to get it sounding good because it's so sensitive.

I'd recommend getting a cheap dynamic mic as well as an audio interface. Those combined will be about 50 bucks--much more affordable than the Blue Yeti, and will be a lot easier to work with in the long run.

You'll also need a microphone arm, which is also why I recommend a cheaper mic. The Neewer 20 dollar arm is perfect for those starting out--if you went with the Blue Yeti, that same arm wouldn't work as well because the Yeti is just so heavy, and you'd need to buy an adapter because the arm isn't compatible with it right out of the box.

When you're ready to get a new webcam, I'd recommend with Logitech C270. It's only 20 bucks right now and you're able to stream at 720p without any issues. You're a small streamer, so you shouldn't really worry too much about 1080p--especially since even the bigger streamers only stream at 720p anyway.

u/BlackAera · 2 pointsr/edmproduction

Windows Stereo Mix is basically the "what you hear" sound. With Audacity you can record whatever windows is "hearing" meaning you can easily rip sound from whatever source online as long as you can play it back in some way. It's like Edison just not for FL but everything else.

You can use the unbalanced chinch connectors yes. With the headphone source switch you can change the output channel you want to listen to on your headphones. If you got your speakers connected to 1 and 2 that means you have to set it to 1-2 to hear the same output. You can either turn down the volume for the headphones independantly or you can switch to the other channel to shut them off.

Just get something like the Logitech C 270 for hassle-free voice chat. I use a webcam to chat and it's the best thing.

Or get a dynamic Shure SM58 mic and connect it to the interface :D

sure here you go - https://i.imgur.com/3tu1tOt.jpg

2 ender 3's are in the pic, The left one is called Yoshi and the right one is called Ironman. (normally yoshi has all blue parts and ironman has red. but i did some swapping around last few days)

I have 2 cameras a cheap one and an expensive one. as you can imagine the expensive one gives way better time lapses. this video in particular was filmed using the logitech c922.

logitech c922 is around $75 on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-C922x-Pro-Stream-Webcam/dp/B01LXCDPPK

and the logitech c270 is only around $20 - https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Widescreen-designed-Calling-Recording/dp/B004FHO5Y6

The logitech c270 does 1280x720 however only around 15fps which is fine for timelapses but i like to check on my printers using my phone over wifi and the frame rate sucks. It can handle 30fps at 640x480 if you don't mind the resolution.

However the c922 i got handles 1080p at 30fps, i run it at 1280x720 at 60fps, which means i get no delay in the image when i watch it on my phone. plus it seems to be much better at low light level and focus.

I ran led lights around the outside of the strip and it gives more of a consistent lighting. about $10 on Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Waterproof-Holiday-Outdoor-Decoration/dp/B075R4X1XL

Both printers have bl touch and marlin 1.1.9 and custom boot screens. https://i.imgur.com/HnjgJCh.jpg

I have another video here https://youtu.be/ATbcqLi4Trg i am still learning and practicing how i want to make the timelapses and working on some larger projects such as sanding and painting.

let me know if there is anything else you wanna know!

u/Mrcharlieismad · 2 pointsr/Twitch

Not in any way that makes sense.

You could probably jury rig something using OBS screen capture, but it's really not worth the headache when you can get a 720p webcam for well under $50

u/nolageek · 2 pointsr/obs

Honestly I think the more reliable, best looking option would be to get a couple of cheap Logitech 270s along with the macbook cam as the primary.

Two of these are cheaper than the $44 manycam license:
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Widescreen-designed-Calling-Recording/dp/B004FHO5Y6/

And you could probably resell/return one or both of them when you're done and get some of the money back.

You may want to get other opinions though, since I'm not super familiar with Macs and using multiple cams like this.

u/PostalFury · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Honestly? I'd use your smartphone (assuming you have one).

Otherwise, the C270 is still a decent webcam.

For lighting, just get a desk lamp. No quality webcam will have lights on it.

I use this - Logitech HD Webcam C270, 720p and the image is pretty clear, for the $25 I spent. Just keep in mind to give yourself some good lighting if you plan to use a cam.

It may be hard to fit an i5, as the difference in price is quite large, so it may start to stretch your budget. A higher-end CPU won't give you as much of a boost in gaming as a better GPU (which I've managed to fit into a revised list).

The deal that /u/Lavendar13 suggested is great, but would go over your build's budget in its current state, and could potentially require an update that you'd be unable to perform without another CPU. You mentioned video/photo-editing as something you may do, but I'm not sure of the gains an i5 would have over an i3 in that regard.

The build mock-up as it is now is very close to your maximum budget, leaving a bit of room for a cheap mic and a webcam. I'm not sure about webcam prices and such, so I don't know how well the budget would accommodate something like that.

EDIT:

The Logitech C270 webcam is $25 on Amazon and has a microphone built into it, it seems. I can't speak for the quality, but it seems to be alright based on the customer reviews on Amazon and the reviews given on Engadget. It'd put you over budget by $7, however (which could be accommodated for by finding alternatives for a few components).

Also, is it possible for you to use Dreamspark for an OS?
u/Inutsu · 1 pointr/letsplay

For a cam I would suggest this https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Desktop-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B004FHO5Y6

It doesn't look spectacular but it's cheap and looks fine when it's just a portion of the screen.

And for the mic I'd suggest just messing around with your settings, that'll fix almost any audio balance problem. That way you don't blow anything now and you can save up for a good mic!

u/blazefalcon · 0 pointsr/Twitch

I'll probably upgrade to the C920 soon, but the Logitech C270 is what I've used for years and it's never failed me. Pretty ok quality and good settings adjustment so even my garbage green screen works beautifully. If you're on a tight budget, this is a great cam.
