I think they mean like these although I'm not sure how many companies are selling these.

Honestly. Get a harmony hub anyway. I freaking love my Harmony Ultimate. If you have multiple devices you can use it to switch between all of them with ease. I also have a receiver, so switching manually before was just a hassle... Like 4 different remotes driving me nuts. Now I use one.

Using an app called IFTTT allows you to control Harmony using Google Home or Google Assistant. I use my PixelXL because I'm waiting on the nVidia Spot.

One downside to Harmony is you lose the "magic mouse" or whatever LG calls the pointer. I am not using LG's remote at all. It's not too bad because all I need to use the TV's interface for is switching Picture Mode to Game for certain games.

I say, "Okay Google, turn on the XBox." which I typed myself, so you can make it whatever... and my TV turns on, the receiver switches to the right input as does the TV. The TV turns on. And I'm good to go. You can also type out a response that Google says. When I do it my response is, "Okay... I prefer the PC, but hey... nobody is perfect."

With punctuation, Google Assistant delivers it with the right amount of sass. It's great!

I like the tool and the idea. Here's what I'm seeing for the top item, the Logitech?

5 available on Amazon at $199, free shipping with Prime

12 condition:new units sold in the last 30 days on eBay, avg price: $179.20

Am I reading this wrong? Or not accounting for some shipping gouging on eBay or something? Seems like an $11 loss, and only 12 have sold in last 30 days, not '1 per day in last 7 days'? Not trolling, I love the tool, not sure if it's working or if I'm reading it wrong.

edit: same thing for the Little Big Planet listing. Does this tool show eBay-to-Amazon flips?

> The other smaller harmony remotes have a terrible button layout with half the navigation controls at the top.

As someone who's used a Touch/Ultimate One ($120USD for this is a pretty solid deal) for the past 4+ years, you get used to the nav controls being at the top. In fact I don't even notice it anymore, the hand shift is so second-nature. The back is contoured to be held nicely in either position (think how a N64 controller works, for example -- it looks stupid, but it's comfortable in any position).

I've been using Harmony remotes long enough that it would be more painful to switch to something else.

> Logitech is absolutely gouging with there cost of these remotes because they know no one else makes any thing decent.

True enough, and they're not wrong. But you can often find refurb sales at really good prices. My last two or three Harmony remotes have all been refurbs and they were perfect out of the box. And hundreds of dollars cheaper.

> The shield? I don't have one unfortunately, but I really don't want anything like a phone where I have to interface with a screen..

The Shield remote is a minimal button remote similar to a Fire TV or Apple TV remote. But it has a touch slider area that can be mapped to things like Volume control or gestures (at least it can be done on the Shield itself; not sure if you can do that on a PC). So while it only has 2 or 3 buttons and a d-pad, the touchpad gives more control than you'd get with an Apple or Fire remote. Probably a pain in the butt to get working on PC, though.

And I 100% agree with you about phone interfaces, or anything non-tactile. I rely almost entirely on muscle memory, and while I do use my Harmony's touch display, it's for rare tasks or tasks where I'm fine with looking at the remote, like switching Activities or starting everything up for the first time. I'd never use the touch screen for nav controls, for example, even though Logitech has a gesture screen just for that.

Right. From what I have seen, it will be a better deal to buy the bundle with the hub than to buy each separately. Though if you are unsure of your need for the hub, the ultimate is $79 right now: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IAKLM54/

You can control this setup with any standard IR remote. The hardware has a IR sensor and is pre-programed with xbox media center IR commands. So if you get a XBox Media Center ready remote or Harmony you're good too go.

So you can get a cheap $10 remote or $$ remote or even use a bluetooth keyboard...

As far as "Wife Proofing" what I did was this.. Buy this remote..
http://www.amazon.com/Fobis-Technologies-WE-10-Weemote-Control/dp/B0010S8G2A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416646314&sr=8-1&keywords=weemote+digital

SHE LOVES IT... jokes about how I had to get her a special remote with her friends..

It's a learning remote so you have to have a harmony to program this kiddie remote.. but I made the green button TV Power, Read Vol Down, Orange Vol Up and rocker standard and the "M" the back button. No insults to all the wifes out there, I'm sure many can use those $$ remotes but mine loves this little 5 button remote with the plex setup. The only thing she don't like is she can't fwd cuz I have the buttons programed as next chapter. But she can turn on the TV and so can the little ones. While I use this remote..

However if you're not ready for that you can do what I originally which was this..

1st I bought this..
http://www.amazon.com/Rii-Wireless-Touchpad-Keyboard-Android/dp/B00JO80LUI/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1416646515&sr=8-11&keywords=wireless+bluetooth+keyboard

Worked great.. but was RF so once I closed the av cabinet door it stoped working.. so this frustrated me so then I bought this.. which worked over the built in blue tooth..
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Keyboard-Built-In-Multi-Touch/dp/B005DKZTMG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416646515&sr=8-2&keywords=wireless+bluetooth+keyboard

Then when I had to program the wifes / kiddie remote cuz she complained about the keyboard because the kids would leave it turned on and it woudl be always be dead when she went to grab it so I used that as an excuse to buy the remote I really wanted which was the big harmony IR remote here..

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Ultimate-Customizable-915-000224/dp/B00IAKLM54/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1416646457&sr=8-3&keywords=harmony+remote

I told her I needed it to program the kiddie remote.. but really you can use any xbox media remote do that... I just needed an excuse to get approval from the wife to spend $200 on a remote ;-)

That gets you 1 remote that powers everything, 1 keyboard that can also control everything (meaning even if you just want to interact with your ps4, you can do it through the keyboard OR the remote) and a hub that ALSO allows you to control everything with your phone, control other smart home stuff (like lights) and keeps everything in sync (so they keyboard and remote both know the "state" of all of the devices, which input everything should be on, etc).

We have an 8 month old who's starting to crawl so i've been downsizing tech to prevent him from breaking stuff.

I just sold my HTPC and am looking to sell my harmony gear as a package. PM me and we can talk price cause its perfect for you. I just want it to end up in a good home.

So I bought a Harmony Hub + Ultimate One for my dad for Christmas last year, does this mean it's going to be useless come March?
