I love my Logitech M570 for airplanes. Way better than a trackpad and smaller footprint than a mouse.

Hey, it's cool that you shared the sale, but the tag=paktinatcom-20 part of the link looks a lot like an affiliate link.

I don't know what this sub's rules are on those and whether you copy/pasted that on purpose or on accident, but here are two non-affiliate links (and a lot shorter!)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043T7FXE

https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0043T7FXE <-- if you want a portion of the sale to go to a charity of your choosing

In any case it looks like the sale is over with, so probably doesn't matter anyways.

Might I suggest getting her a trackball instead? They are very handy, work as good as a mouse, but allow for a different experience, especially for those of us who have trouble with using a mouse. Variations here and here give you an idea of the choices available in form, like specialized keyboards.

Also, they may be coming out with a flip version of a smartphone (Samsung, I believe?) in the near future. Is your mom a Star Trek:TOS fan, by chance?

Also, you might try buying her a cheap tablet, and loading a few games into it, to get her used to using the form factor. (Hey, that's why Microsoft invented Minesweeper and Solitaire, so it's not as dumb an idea as it sounds... and not mine - obviously. "Good minds invent, GREAT minds steal. " heh )

High School English (none of these are English specific)

This is room dependent as some schools have them, but one key thing that I haven't seen mentioned yet (apologies if I missed it) is a clock. Specifically get an atomic clock that has a highly visible seconds display. I just bought this one by Marathon refurbished. It makes a great deal of difference knowing whether there are 3 seconds or 30 seconds until the bell in my experience.

Another thing I highly recommend is this wireless trackball mouse. It makes a great presentation tool. You can do more with it than a clicker. You can just hold it on your leg if you need to use the mouse function while standing.

Also, get yourself some speakers that sound decent and have a) an easy way switch to headphones b) easily accessible volume control. Headphones are essential because you will undoubtedly be on your prep while the classroom next door decides to mutiny. The external volume control is much easier than having to click around on the computer (you could get a keyboard that has those features). These speakers are reasonably priced and have served me well. Bonus points if you can find an easy way to include bluetooth in the set up (I'm trying to figure out how to do that as my new school blocks spotify). If anyone has any ideas for me, I would appreciate it.

I'm a terribly unorganized person, but for me color coded folders helped me keep things a little more organized. Find durable plastic folders and assign a color for each different period. When you collect an assignment, it goes into the proper folder

u/ekapalka · 7 pointsr/pcmasterrace

As someone who has used trackballs for the better part of seven years, I would highly recommend them for gaming, however, the one OP has I would highly advise against. There's two practical types of trackballs I know of - thumb operated and finger operated. The thumb operated ones like this and this are second to none for FPS games if you can handle the relatively small learning curve and few buttons. The finger operated ones like OP's are truly bizarre to use and take quite some time to become proficent enough to perform the most trivial tasks

u/Theomniproject · 5 pointsr/oculus

I swear by these. It made all the difference for me. I can only use the thumb ball ones as the others with the middle ball cause tendon strain. I own 3 of them. One for work, one for main PC, and another for the living room. They also make great couch mice as they don't have to move.

u/FF0000it · 5 pointsr/Trackballs

I can't imagine anyone making a fake while Logitech is still making them & selling them for only $27 on Amazon US, which is where the majority of the sales are.

The motivation for making a counterfeit would be either if Logitech stops making them i.e. this one which used to go for $60 but is selling for 10x that now that it's been discontinued, or if they were going to make super-cheap knock-offs that sells for $10.

u/ronjamesmajor · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you're not set on that specific trackball, the Logitech m570 one with a thumb ball has a tealish ball. It's not honestly that great though, in my opinion. It's pretty cheap too. But the ball won't fit that Kensington.

u/MrIndieJ · 4 pointsr/pcmasterrace

You insinuating that trackballs are bad? I genuinely love (and have used for the past 3 years) my Logitech M570 and plan on getting the Elecom M-XTv2 so I can switch my M570 to my laptop.

u/Dr_Jackwagon · 4 pointsr/LiverpoolFC

Haha. Oh man, that keyboard is great. Got the matching track ball too.

u/fatalist23 · 4 pointsr/tf2

I don't like the index finger marbles... I've played in the past with a thumb-ball, and it's actually a marvel for avoiding repetitive stress injury and actually quite an advantage for sniping as well.

If you find a thumb-ball marble, I strongly suggest giving it a try.

Something like this...

u/Rad2 · 3 pointsr/battlestations

I bought this logitech wireless trackball M570 and it is the most glorious mouse ever.

I had the corded one before (got it used from a friend 7 years ago) and even that was unmatched and the only way I felt it could be improved was to make it wireless.

u/DronesWorkHard · 3 pointsr/Trackballs

for me Work= trackball (stopped wrist pain after an 8 hour day completely)

Gaming = regular mouse. I love trackballs and you can use them fine for Civ etc. But they will never beat a mouse in an FPS imho

good place to start is the wireless logitech m570. crazy cheap, wireless signal never cuts out. keeps cord clutter at work to a min. love it

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-910-001799-M570-Wireless-Trackball/dp/B0043T7FXE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420213180&sr=8-1&keywords=trackball

u/PutYourButtThere · 3 pointsr/battlestations

That would be this guy. My first after school job was working in a photo lab, and the owner was a big fan of using trackball mice for photo editing. It's more precise. I got hooked on it and don't ever use a typical mouse anymore if I can help it. But it sucks for gaming. REALLY sucks.

u/rgvtim · 3 pointsr/gadgets

Just found this one,

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Trackball-Receiver-910-001799/dp/B0043T7FXE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291731953&sr=8-1

all the wireless ones i have used in the past were not 2.4GHz and the range sucks.

u/themitch22 · 3 pointsr/Trackballs

Thanks for all the suggestions and information. I decided to go ahead and order a Logitech M570 because it was the cheapest option that was new and also amazon prime I'll get it here tomorrow. I hear they're not the most reliable but pretty well known here. We'll see how it goes, I'll post a pic of my setup when I receive it.

u/sentry07 · 3 pointsr/Trackballs

M570. I keep one in my backpack and one on my work desk. And grab a clamshell case from Amazon to go with it.

u/hawi51 · 3 pointsr/indonesia

i bought Tasker, and my phone now automatically:

  • send random but personalized text message to my girlfriend & my mom at random times between 11:30am to 12.30pm. (for example: "ibu apa kabar? jangan telat makan ya..." , "jangan lupa makan bu! nanti maag..." , etc ). ^^anak ^^durhaka

  • text my cellular provider once a month to extend the internet package.

  • turn the WiFi on if i'm arriving at home or the office (also turn it off if the WiFi disconnected for prolonged time).

  • enable screen rotation mode when i watch video/YouTube. Also enable the GPS when i open Maps, Waze, or foursquare, otherwise keep it-off.

also because years of PC gaming and tennis ^^also ^^^extreme ^^^^masturbation , i used to have light carpal tunnel syndrome issues on my right wrist. Converting from Mouse to trackball somehow cured that, although i'm still using a regular mouse for gaming & graphics purposes.
u/ecuintras · 3 pointsr/pcgaming

RSI = Repetitive Stress Injury for those who don't know the acronym.

Look into ergonomics to alleviate or reduce strain. Try to keep your elbows at the same level you surface is at.

I'm not sure what kind of mouse you are using, but consider a vertical mouse like this, or a trackball mouse like this.

I kept the options on the cheaper side so it doesn't suck as much if you can't get accustomed to them.

I'm not much a fan of trackballs, but I have an injured Marine buddy who swears by them and also an old boss of mine doing graphic design said trackballs let him keep using a computer for 20 years after he couldn't use a standard mouse any longer.

I don't have an opinion of vertical mice, but feel free to check out some reviews. Supposedly they keep the ulna and radius in a much more neutral position which allows the stabliizing muscles to work much less hard.

Good luck.

u/ieya404 · 3 pointsr/Trackballs

Oddly some of the most comfortable designs are also out of production now, like the two ianisthewalrus suggests - if you can find them at a sane price then awesome, but they can also be pretty extortionate these days.

That being the case I'd suggest trying out something like the Logitech m570 (which is a thumb ball - ie the ball's operated by your thumb), or the Kensington Orbit Trackball Scroll (which is a finger ball); both are under $30 and either would be a decent device to trial.

u/kami3zak · 3 pointsr/techsupport

+1 I use one of these at work, and it makes using the mouse a lot easier IMO.

Edit: I use this particular one here.

u/UnclaimedUsername · 3 pointsr/patientgamers

I don't have a game suggestion but maybe a trackball instead of a mouse would help? I use this one, it helped with a repetitive stress injury I got (and now I just prefer it) but I don't know if it's good for carpal tunnel.

u/MAAnderson · 3 pointsr/EngineeringStudents

I got the M570 from a friend, and I am loving it. Mine is a returned mouse with the ball a little loose, but even so, I still prefer it to touchpad or regular mouse. I've yet to have pain from carpal tunnel, and I love that I can rest my wrist however and wherever I want(especially in bed in the morning, where there is no even spot for a traditional mouse). I think it would be well-worth the investment.

u/tb21666 · 3 pointsr/technology

This is exactly why I went with another OEM for my 3rd party remote for my Shield Pro.

Was asking them to release an upgrade to their M570 mouse with a speed wheel for literally years & what do they do when they finally release one?

They neuter it with a non-removable battery & make it's only power solution being tethered to an umbilical cord! Not to mention they taxed the 💩 out of the price point on this new model!!

So done with them. Time to find a new, reliable OEM for future keyboard & mice purchases.

u/El_Camino_SS · 3 pointsr/editors

Logitech TrackMan Marble Wheel- Fast as the devil. FAAAAST. It's ancient and works.

This is the modern version.

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-910-001799-M570-Wireless-Trackball/dp/B0043T7FXE/ref=pd_sim_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1Y1KAH9D6FC3R6NWZ0G2

The optical ones are awesome.
For the price, give it a shot, if it's not your thing, give it to a friend... either way, someone is never going back to a mouse, ever.

I'm about twice as fast as a mouse, and once you get used to it, you'll never go back to a mouse, strictly because you'll be much more agile with it.
It doesn't look agile. It really doesn't. But then again, there is a difference between a Huffy and a Specialized road bike. This is actually faster, but it does take a week.
Accuracy does not take a hit.

u/CowFu · 3 pointsr/blenderhelp

Most professional artist I've seen uses a trackball for fine-tune control. Like the logitech 570

But if you're looking for a standard mouse, I'd suggest the G500s and really load up the optional weight so you get better control. link

u/IBleedBlueBlood · 3 pointsr/rhino

Look into trackball mice. I started having symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and tried about 7 different mice. They ranged from vertical mice to trackball. I did try out the anker vertical, and found out it wasn’t helping with all of my strain issues. I ended up settling on a traditional trackball mouse. It’s admittingly a huge learning curve. It does take a good amount of time to get used to it, and efficient enough where you’re not “thinking” to not move the mouse around (you use trackball mice in the stationary position).

I started with the Logitech M570 and used that with a Wrist Rest from my second semester of grad school until I finished (this spring). I would still have some strain, and then the Logitech MX Ergo came out and I bought it. Instantly hooked. It’s best of both worlds with trackball and vertical. Little tidbit, BestBuy sells an exclusive variant that includes an extra piece that increases the mouse’s angle. I recommend getting that one as I can’t live without it. It’s called the MX Ergo Plus.

Like you, I was having searing pains in my wrist and up my forearm after a long day of using Rhino. Both 2D drafting, and 3D modeling. Switching to an ergonomic mouse, for me a trackball and “vertical-esque” model has saved me!

Good luck, and if you have any questions just let me know!

u/vap0rxt · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I don't know anyone that has this issue but would a mouse like this be better? My brother has been using them for near 20 years and is one awesome CS:GO player. Cursor and aiming are used with your thumb instead of hand, just an idea, not sure it will help in your situation. http://amzn.com/B0043T7FXE

u/foxual · 2 pointsr/MouseReview

There is no such thing as a gaming touchpad. There are limited options for touchpads period. Your best bet is probably something like the Logitech T650: https://amzn.com/B0093H4WT6

Unless you are looking for an actual touchmouse, which are also things... Logitech T630: https://amzn.com/B00DR8LA6U

Or you may look at a tru Ergo mouse... https://amzn.com/B00BIFNTMC

Or a trackball: https://amzn.com/B0043T7FXE

u/purecaldari · 2 pointsr/civ

My main PC also stands in the living room connected to the TV. I can recommend the following mouse replacement. You can place it on your leg or simply beside you. Takes a little to get used to for some, but it's great.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0043T7FXE?cache=6dcd6437b4384a5716b08c2f70f9ffeb&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1414940078&sr=8-3#ref=mp_s_a_1_3

u/meatballglomerulus · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

I've used a trackball for years and cleared everything without an issue blamed on my mouse. I use this one. I have to replace it every few years but I love it. I used to get really bad tendonitis and this basically resolved that issue. It has a scroll button so I can zoom in and out no probs.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can change the keybind for the scroll part otherwise. She could always try to use a controller if she doesn't want to buy a new mouse?

u/sikk66 · 2 pointsr/reasoners

I don't have a lot of desk space so I needed a stationary mouse and ended up with one of these Logitech M570(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043T7FXE/). I have it velcro'd to the right side of my MPK261. It fits perfectly and doesn't inhibit the use of the faders. It's a good mouse if you like track ball mice. Great for cramped spaces. Works really good for my situation.

Edit: Worth mentioning: It is always turned on and gets really long battery life.

u/madcat033 · 2 pointsr/Accounting

Dude I have that same trackball mouse and it kicks ass.

You use your thumb to move the trackball, while your fingers stay on the left and right click buttons. Check out the reviews on Amazon. Currently has 4.6/5 with over 900 ratings.

It's seriously way better than a regular mouse. I can never go back.

I have a logitech trackball, and I love it, basically, you keep your hand in a comfortable position and move the ball using your thumb. Its also great for working on the go as you don't need space to move the mouse around.

My setup for work (IT consulting.. sysadmin/developer/email writer) for years now has been:

MS Natural Ergo 4000

Logitech M570

Both of these of course have their detractors, some folks can't stand trackballs, and ergo keyboards. However, for work purposes, this combo can't be beat.

Several of my coworkers swear by this combo from Microsoft as well. The sculpt is the 'next-generation' version of the 4000, and it's pretty nice.

This mouse is really great and has helped me with some tiny wrist and shoulder issues:
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Trackball-Computer-Mouse/dp/B0043T7FXE

I also use an ergodox keyboard, which has done wonders: lets you keep straight wrists, opens up your chest with a shoulder-width apart configuration, which leads to much better posture. Also, I modified the firmware so that modifier keys such as control and alt are used by thumbs, so no more emacs pinky. I actually recommend this since the palm rests are really great: https://ergodox-ez.com/

I'd hazard a guess that /u/dragontology probably has a Trackman Wheel (which is a bit of a precursor to the current M570) and just refers to it as a "Trackman". Either that, or /u/dragontology was sold an M570 and told that it's called a Trackman, because the M570 really fits the description that they have given.

Oh hey, something I know a lot about. It is likely a form of RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury), the most well known of which is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. If you have just started hurting recently, it's probably just and early stage RSI. These are really common in people with data-entry jobs, people who actively use a computer all day, and PC gamers. A lot of time they are ignored and get worse, so I'm glad you're getting it looked at.

I have a genetic connective tissue disorder that effects everything, and seriously impacts my wrist when playing. You should certainly see a doctor, but here are some other things you can do as well:

  • First, you need to make sure your keyboard and mouse are at the right height. There are a lot of sites that offer a "magic number", but it really depends on height and your situation. Having your desk at the wrong height can put added strain on your wrists as they bend to reach the keyboard and mouse.

  • Get yourself a programmable keyboard, like one by Razer. I know they're expensive, but it's more reliable than something like AutoHotKey (which is still an option if you're flat broke). These are nice because you can program common tasks like 'Ctrl+V' to a single keypress, rather than having to stretch out across the board, pulling those tendons tight. The nicer ones will have dedicated macro buttons, so you can reduce your keystrokes even in-game by assigning frequent combos to one of those keys.

  • Make sure sure you are using a quality wrist/palm rest for your keyboard, and use it every time. The slight bend that your hand makes when you aren't using one causes damage that accumulates over time.

  • The worst for us is the mouse, though. Several years ago, because all my joints are impacted and moving the mouse screwed up my shoulder, I moved to a trackball. It is absolutely an adjustment to use, but so long as you aren't a competitive player (progression, or Overwatch leagues) you shouldn't notice any dip in your play. I use this one, and I believe it is the best. It slightly rotates your wrist to relieve the pressure on the long tendons, and the ball prevents you from having to "flick" your wrist -- an isolated motion that can cause real damage.

  • An alternative for the trackball, if you are competitive, or just can't get used to the trackball, would be a mouse like this one. I have one, and it's decent quality. I don't expect it to last nearly as long as my trackball, and the movement is also something you have to get used to just the same, but it is a cheap way to try out the vertical ("handshake") mouse that is often reccommended to relieve pain caused by Repetitive Strain Injuries.

  • You may need to reduce your gaming for a couple weeks. The early stages are often jsut because of tendon inflammation, so resting can often alleviate it for a lot of people. Then just be more careful (do the above) when you come back.

  • Someone here mentioned wrist exercises. They're a good idea, but they can limit healing if your wrist is already damaged. Ask your doctor about them. S/he may give you a few specific ones to do now until your wrist is strong enough to handle the full list in a few weeks.

  • Finally: These apply to work as well as to home. The good news is that most workplaces have "ergonomics" policies in place now, because RSI is so common and in the worst cases qualifies employees for Worker's Comp. Their ergonomics program should help you get the right height desk, chair, and keyboard combo. When you do go to the doctor, though, if s/he mentions RSI or Carpal Tunnel, mention that you're going to need something to take back to work so that you can get the right accommodations. If HR tries to stonewall you, use the word "accommodations" and with your DX in hand they pretty much have to help out.

So yeah, good luck! Hopefully it's just an early-stage RSI that some time off and care will resolve, but once you've started the process it generally doesn't go backwards. Like everything else in our bodies, once you've injured those tendons they become more prone to re-injury and you'll have to keep an eye on them from here forward. Luckily, once you get the above set up, you don't have to actively do anything; just make sure you're in the right work space!

tl;dr: I have an ungodly amount of experience with tendon/ligament injuries. Trust me, you really should go and read all of that to prevent a lot of pain. Above all, if your gaming makes your hands/wrists/forearms hurt, see a doctor.
u/DesignatedDecoy · 2 pointsr/webdev

With overuse injuries that dull ache will eventually become a sharp pain. How long it takes is different for everyone, for instance my threshold for repetitive use injuries is extremely low (I'll get that dull ache after only a few hours of traditional mouse use). That's why I switched and got a trackball mouse that allows my hand to stay stationary and I only use my thumb. I do a ton of fine, precise movements with my mouse at work and this is a life saver. I now have minimal pain and I use one all day. Definately recommend the thumb tracking over ones that use your fingers, as your thumb has an additional plane of movement (rotation) that your fingers do not. If you get one where you use your fingers your going to run into the same problem.

Always been a HUGE fan of gaming mice. I've always used Razer and recently a logitech gaming mouse. The key is the sensitivity settings and multiple buttons. You can assign two buttons to set the sensitivity up / down. So if you are streaming / digitizing and need nice slow movement you can set it for very low. Also the multiple buttons come in handy for assigning common tasks so you don't have to mess with the keyboard or moving the mouse away from you work.

Here are the two that I've been using with great pleasure.

Razer Orochi bluetooth mouse (it is small, but I really like it) http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Orochi-Mobile-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00AAS88K6 5 programmable buttons. And on-screen display to show you what sensitivity stage you are. Which is helpful.

Logitech Wireless G700 http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Gaming-Mouse-G700/dp/B003VAM32E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414162387&sr=8-1&keywords=Logitech+Wireless+Gaming+Mouse+G700 I like how it fits my hand and there are more buttons than the Orochi. I think it has 9 programmable buttons.

I've never used a graphics tablet but can see how it could be useful. I do have a trackball mouse (Logitech M570 Wireless Trackball) because of a wrist injury. But it's just not the same. I find it to be a bit jerky and doesn't have the fluid, smooth movement of my gaming mice. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-910-001799-M570-Wireless-Trackball/dp/B0043T7FXE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414162541&sr=8-1&keywords=trackball+mouse

So a lot of what you got is right but most some of it for the wrong reasons. Namely the picture that is on my wall I bought from a garage sale for a dollar. The echo was my sole HS graduation present, so well off; yes, rich; no.(I like using semicolons, despite not knowing how to use semicolons;) The board is not custom built, its a reddragon k552 Kumara, the wristrest is a cedar plank from a house I was working on over the summer. It is the perfect size and everything. I am working on a split board (on top of my left speaker.) and just threw the blank keycaps from that on Dvorak user so qwerty is absolutely pointless. Hey, that's my mouse! Logitech M570, and here's a referral-free Amazon link for anyone who wants to learn more about it. Really is a joy to use. It's not weird at all going from moving the whole mouse to just rolling the ball with your thumb. And, you know, this being /r/sex, a person who can work a trackball might find themselves skilled in other areas... or not, but I can see the connection. ;)

Get a simple track ball mouse like the Logitech m570. You can use your finger to move the ball, and then move it over to the button to click, without having to move your hand at all. (And after looking at the picture, you might be able to use thumb for the ball and finger for the button.)

I had scapholunate repair surgery in my right wrist, (with a second follow-up surgery) so know where you are coming from. I also recommend an electric toothbrush if you don't already have one, for your left handed tooth brushing. Contrary to what most people think, brushing teeth is the hardest daily bathroom activity to do with your non-dominant hand.

But there are a variety of things you could try: Trackball - Gaming Mouse - Big Ass Mouse

u/reishka · 2 pointsr/ffxiv

It does sound like you're moving your hands a little too much. Are you using F1-F4 for targeting? Have you tried using your mouse to select a target from the party list instead of using F1-F4? My most effective healing is using the mouse to select people from the party list, and having my primary healing spells bound to 1 - 5 (Cure/Cure2/Cure3/benediction/Regen). Stoneskin and Protect are on 7 and 8 because they are used less. Other healing spells (Medica/Medica2/Divine Seal/etc) are bound to Shift 1 - 5 and Alt 1 - 5. Now, I have small hands, so hitting shift 1 - 5 and alt 1 - 5 is a little complicated uncomfortable, so I actually bound the forward and back buttons on my mouse to shift and alt using a program called XMouseControl. This way, all I have to do is shift my index finger of my right hand ever so slightly to access those abilities, and my left hand doesn't stray far from the keys for my abilities or the keys that make me move.

I use the same concept for my offensive abilities (aero, stone, etc) but instead of using 1 - 5, I use shift- & alt- Q, W, E, which leaves W available for movement. I got rid of strafe directions because I never use them and remapped Q and E to Chocobo and Sprint

Also don't discount that in a clutch, you can press both mouse buttons at once to run in whatever direction you are facing.

I'd honestly go out to some training dummies and spend some time playing around with the keybindings until you find something that you're comfortable with. It's very different for each person - hand size, keyboard size, placement of keys, the desk you're sitting at can all make a difference in how things feel, so it'll take some playing around until you find what feels right for you. A lot can also be said for just plain muscle memory. It'll take awhile once you find a layout that is comfortable for you, but after awhile muscle memory will kick in and you won't even have to worry about it.

Edit: I a word

u/Insaniac99 · 2 pointsr/lowendgaming

Try out a trackball, like this one

It doesn't answer your question, but if you can move your thumb without problems then it may solve your issue. It will take getting used to, but you can head shot the average player once you are. I have been using a similar trackball since the 90s

u/it_anarchist · 2 pointsr/sysadmin

If you want something durable, logitech make the best mice. Just be warned, they aren't all braided (I actually am not sure if any of them are). I buy wireless-rechargeable mice now because the last one (glorious logitech one, favorite mouse) started to fray.

Edit: When I thought braided, I meant Razor's level of braided. The usb plug was face down and the wire was straight up and pulled down by the mouse, that's why mine frayed. If you get an extension cord you should be fine.

Only get mice that are rechargeable (via cable) with LED indicators if you are going wireless. AA batteries drain fast and you are gonna really hate it when you forget to replace them and your mouse starts to dim in the middle of a game.

If you don't mind trackball, I personally use the Logitech M570 and I love it so far, even for gaming.

Also, I used to use a Logitech K360 under the same receiver (using Solaar for syncing), but after I had to accept a Corsair K95RGB as payment for a debt (long & unrelated story), I have been using it constantly with the help of CKB (it support almost everything the official software does except for macros, but key reassigning works just fine and that was enough for me).

Have you tried a ball mouse? Your hand position is still flat, but the reduction of movement is wonderful if you don't need extremely high precision. And you could probably be fine with that once you got used to it. I have the exact same Anker mouse and it's hit or miss with me. I also have a G9 and a m570. I can't say which i prefer the most in terms of comfort because somehow luckily i don't have much pain unless I'm using a Magic Mouse. I will say they're all good in their own ways. If you've used a ball mouse before it is it's own experience entirely, but i really recommend it if it's within your budget as Amazon has a great return policy if you order from there. I just order an MX Master so I'll be trying out that one next. And if it comes down to it, i have an unopened g602 i forgot to return i can sell if you want something like that.

I've found what works best for me is a wireless mouse/trackball (Logitech's Unifying stuff works well), and I still use the SP3's keyboard. And if you do stick with that keyboard make sure in User Preferences>Input you check "Emulate Numpad", it'll allow you to use the regular number keys for the camera views if there isn't a number pad.

Keep in mind I use it while on the train so a trackball is better than a mouse in that situation, as is the SP3 keyboard.

u/perkited · 1 pointr/Trackballs

It's a known problem with the Trackman Wheel and M570 (which superseded the Trackman Wheel), but there aren't very many alternatives for thumb-ball trackballs.

I recently had an M570 replaced under warranty due to the left button reporting double/triple clicks on a single click/long press. Logitech did send a new M570 without me needing to return the defective one, so it was pretty painless.

There are a few videos on Youtube showing how to take apart a Trackman Wheel and use contact cleaner to fix some button issues. That might be worth a try if you don't have the money to get an M570.

Will this really help? Using a pen requires moving your hand a lot more than a mouse. and gripping it with your fingers definitely strains them. I think a trackball that you move with your thumb (while keeping the rest of your hand stationary) is a far better solution.

As for using a pen to manipulate a graphical user interface, it sucks. Hitting a menu button with a pen is like playing darts. It's the reason there are art programs with interfaces specifically tailored for pens, like ArtRage.

I like the Logitech Triathlon M720 and Marathon M705 models. Both are wireless (the Triathlon is also Bluetooth), with Logitech's trademark free spinning wheel.
Alternatively, I could also recommend the M570 trackball, which is very handy when the space is limited or the surface unmousable.

u/JiffSmoothest · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I use a Logitech M570

I like to game with it for two main reasons:

  1. I don't have to retrain/change my CLICKING fingers

    and

  2. I don't have to move my whole arm whilst gaming, just my thumb.

A gaming mouse is enticing for its various merits, namely all dem buttons, but my desk ATM just isn't big enough to accommodate the range of motion I would need.
u/AutomaticNarwhal · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I guess you could use a trackball for those games if you are okay with the keyboard on your lap and the mouse on the couch.

EDIT: I forgot that you said you were 5-6 feet away, here is a wireless one. If you are uncomfertable with having your mouse on the couch here is a handheld one. Also this is a pretty cheap wireless keyboard.

u/Raydr · 1 pointr/productivity

If you're willing to spend $30 - $40, I recommend the Logitech M570. It's wireless and works nicely.

Otherwise, check all these out.

It would definitely be challenging to go from using a "normal" mouse to a trackball. I just love my mouse though (Logitech M570). It fits my hand perfectly and is just very comfortable to use. Some people prefer the Elecom trackball. I have used both, but I do not care for the Elecom at all. I am not keen on the placement of the trackball, and the overall design for me is just meh.

^ This is an absolute steal at $27 USD. Not sure how much it would be in Canada (you're Canadian right hockey?)

I actually want this,

Think about it,

5 buttons. Each scroll wheel clicks down & 3 independent buttons.

Godly concept, i really want one & will continue to search till i find one of modern taste.

And so i did

Edit: Fist contender & i love this idea, its by the thumb.

Final edit : Gonna possibly buy the Logitech

u/Dyllbert · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I worked in an office, and a couple of the other people there INSISTED that [this mouse] (https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Trackball-Computer-Mouse/dp/B0043T7FXE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486093835&sr=8-1&keywords=ball+mouse) was the best type of mouse.

u/KetchupGuderian · 1 pointr/Warthunder

I play ground using a trackball mouse(This one: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Trackball-Computer-Mouse/dp/B0043T7FXE ). I wonder if that can actually look kind of funky.

u/Casimirus · 1 pointr/ableton

I'm using a Logitech M570 trackball. It's extremely relaxing for the hand, wrist and arm, since you don't move them at all. Once you've changed the speed of your cursor in the OS, you can move around the screen(s) with just a tiny move of your thumb.

Second advantage is it saves room on your desk or you can work on a tiny desk. No need to move a mouse around.

M570

You mean like a trackball mouse?

u/OddJackdaw · 1 pointr/cad

Personally I am a huge fan of the Logitech M570 trackball. I use one with CAD all the time. You use your thumb rather than your fingers for the ball. It works very well in situations like you describe. It is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it thing, but I strongly prefer them to mice.

You could try a wireless trackball like the Kenzington Orbit or Logitech M570

A trackball mouse maybe? but sounds like you've been pretty thorough w/ your options.

I use this:

I've been using this model for the last 10+ years, I'm going to be screwed if Logitech ever stops making them though.

No mouse pad required. It is also the best mouse I have ever used for head shots in a game.

If you are into or have considered using a trackball mouse check out this baby.
I swear by this mouse, one of the greatest 60 dollars I have spent. Reduced wrist strain and improved gaming accuracy (for me at least) make it very worth it.

u/starlbirth · 1 pointr/DawnOfDestructionClan

Hey I had this exact problem. You should try to rest your arm for several days until the pain goes away. Continuing to play will only exacerbate the issue.

I ended up getting a trackball mouse. It uses a different set of muscles and it has caused the pain in my arm to decrease to almost zero. However too much use of any muscle group can cause issues so I swap back to my old mouse every few days.

u/neums08 · 1 pointr/pcgaming

Have you looked into trackball mice, like the Logitech M570?

It you wouldn't need to move your mousing hand at all with something like that.

u/JeffIpsaLoquitor · 1 pointr/Surface

I recommend the M570 thumb trackball It's stationary and cheap and takes up less space than a mouse because it doesn't need to move. There's a decent case that you can buy to carry it. All in all, it's cheaper than a nicer mouse and functional.

I use it with a radial menu and a handful of AutoHotkey scripts for fast access and scrolling. Quite a nice accessory.

u/firehazel · 1 pointr/chromeos

Do you mind a dongle or no?

Personally, I use a Logitech M570 because I love trackballs, and it's a phenomenal mouse.

If you don't want a USB port taken up, the only option is bluetooth. I don't have any recommendations for bluetooth mice.

u/Daftwise · 1 pointr/wow

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043T7FXE/

Logitech M570. I have a Razer Mamba, but since I work on a PC at work the thumb ball ends up less straining.

Working out to prevent posture/back issues is another discussion ;)

u/biotron · 1 pointr/gaming

I would recommend the Logitech M570 for general surfing and some gaming. It really takes the wrist pain away. ALSO I would check out this program called Workrave that reminds you to take breaks so you aren't going to over strain your body.

u/BenKenobi88 · 1 pointr/gaming

The laser can more precisely measure the distance the mouse moves, yes.

There are laser trackballs though too. I would actually consider using this if I traveled more. It's not always easy to move a mouse around in travel situtations.

u/Brad_King · 1 pointr/diablo3

Not a doctor, not a pro, but I've been using trackballs (thumb kind, like this one) for about 20 years now, even for gaming, really works well for me.

u/jammingsloth · 1 pointr/Ergonomics

Does a trackball mouse help significantly? like this

u/BassPhisherman · 1 pointr/Trackballs

It basically looks like a cross between an Elecom Deft and a Logitech M570 or even Logitech MX Ergo

u/bobothegoat · 1 pointr/gaming

They tend to be kind of tough to find. I use an Elecom thumb trackball that I imported from Japan. It has a couple extra buttons that can be reprogrammed, and a physical switch you can use to adjust the dpi in addition to software.

The much more common Logitech one has programmable buttons, but no DPI adjustment. It
is probably the easiest one to find though, and most people that use an Elecom actually replace its stock black ball with the blue Logitech one anyway, since it has better tracking with it.

If you're interested in a trackball that is operated with your other fingers rather than your thumb, something like these from the trackball subreddit, then you'd have to ask someone over at /r/trackballs because I know very little about them.

u/0807 · 1 pointr/chromeos

I've been using a Logitech m570. Its not bluetooth, but I have been happy with it.

u/Altavious · 1 pointr/AskProgramming

Useful and fun is a hard intersection ;-)
I've found one of these to be incredibly useful:
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless-Trackball-Computer-Mouse/dp/B0043T7FXE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1485322629&sr=8-2&keywords=logitech+trackman
In terms of dealing with wrist strain/mice calluses.
Philips hue lightbulbs are pretty fun and can also be programmed.

u/I_EAT_POOP_AMA · 0 pointsr/AskReddit

same, although mine wasn't all that cheap (40 bucks for it) its been going on for about 3 years now and its super simple to clean and care for. just pop the ball out and wipe it with a hand sanitizing wipe and you're all good.

u/common_s3nse · -5 pointsr/blackfriday

I saw so many "gaming" mice that were selling for $50 to $100. I cant understand why anyone would buy those.
They probably cost about $2 to make and then they sell them for $100.

I suggest this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043T7FXE/
Logitech M570 for $33

You will thank me later. This is the best gaming mouse you can buy.
