The book is great too: Lost to the West. The author (Lars Brownsworth, who did the above podcast while writing this book) reads the audio version. Hard cover is great too, has maps, dynasties, etc. It's not religion focused, but obviously Christianity was a huge part of the empire so it plays an important role in the history.
