First, no one will accuse you of "running away" or being weird for wanting to move out on your own (or even with your SO) at 19 years old, let alone 21 years old.

I don't want to get into this too much because you're right, this isn't r/relationships, but this is weird:

>I will not be able to give my parents notice of my moving out, or they will stop me. I will not be able to tell my parents I am moving out even the day of, or they will stop me, or worse, follow me to my new location.

You're 19. You can do whatever you want. Your parents would only stop you if you let them. If they follow you and try to harass you, call the police. You are a grown ass woman who can move whenever you want, away from whoever you want. If they are using money to control you, you're on the right track. Save up enough to leave, and then leave. Who cares if it is with your SO, or whatever, you're 19 (21 at time of planned move).

As far as actual financials, I don't think you're that different than other young people starting out. Many young people start out life after college with little money and little to no furniture/belongings. For a mattress, I would go with new, and shell out a little more money. IKEA has some cheap choices. I actually got mine online and like it. http://www.amazon.com/LUCID%C2%AE-LinenSpa-Memory-Foam-Mattress/dp/B00474X5DO. Had it for 2 years and still like it.

For the other stuff, buy used to get better quality than the cheap IKEA and Target stuff. Anything durable at IKEA will either be way too expensive or on sale/rare. Salvation Army and Goodwill have some good selection if you are willing to look around. I actually furnished my apt with my boyfriend from Salvation army. We got kitchen table, chairs, microwave cart, big rug, couch, love seat, coffee table, entertainment center, side table, and a stoneware china set for about 400. I already had a bed and most kitchen stuff. You, of course, don't need everything all at once, although furniture is nice to get at once if you or a close friend doesn't have a truck. If you get stuff delivered, it may cost more. We found renting a truck and raiding salvation army was cheapest.

You also need to remember the little things add up, so think if you will need those. Pots, pans, plates, glasses, towels, shower curtain, art to hang, bathroom rug, spices, food, toiletries, cleaning supplies. Again, you don't NEED everything all at once, but bare walls get boring and depressing real fast. Also, the little things that are actually essential do add up too. Again, you can go to goodwill and rack it all up for pretty cheap.

I think 10000 is more than doable if you have a good job lined up. If you don't have a job that can pay for food/rent/utilities, I would reconsider moving until you had more saved up unless your situation with your parents is DIRE (if it is, then why are you already waiting 2 years to move).

So, I worked at a company which did a competitive analysis which included Lucid, and the two things that stuck out were:

  1. Low-quality materials (particularly focused on low-durability poly foam)
  2. Poor return policy: Company requires you to ship the mattress back to them before providing a refund (even in cases of mold).

Examples can be found in the Lucid mattress reviews on some of their better selling mattresses.

    Example: https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-Inch-Memory-Foam-Mattress/product-reviews/B00474X5DO/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_hist_1?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=one_star&reviewerType=all_reviews#reviews-filter-bar

Granted, I wasn't focused on this particular mattress or even their hybrid mattresses at all. BUT, these were the red flags we turned up.

Buy a memory foam mattress. They're stupid cheap.

Lucid - $250

Signature Sleep - $280

Sleep Innovations - $450

I have the 10" lucid memory foam. I've had it for 3 years now. omfg is it amazing. No slump, deterioration or anything. Don't listen to these people who don't have one, and are convinced that "real" memory foam mattresses should cost ~3k.

u/omar_strollin · 2 pointsr/Frugal

I'm copying and pasting a comment of mine from last week:

This mattress is amazing. I mention it every time someone needs a frugal mattress recommendation on here because I love it so much. It's the best sleep I've ever had for the price of a regular crappy mattress.
The BF and I have been sleeping on it for 10 months and I never have back pain, hardly ever wake up in the in the middle of the night (which I used to constantly on a regular mattress), and his tossing and turning does not shake the entire mattress.
It doesn't get hot as some people worry about either, and no permanent indentation so far. I am 150 lb and he is 180 lb, if that helps.
Plus it can be delivered straight to you, make sure you air it out!

You can get a full for $219 and I guarantee it will be way better than a $300 regular mattress. It is honestly the best mattress I have ever slept on.

Here's the amazon link if you want to read reviews. PM me if you decide to order cuz sometimes there are good promo codes through the website.

I try to do local whenever possible, been happy with Wood You and the The Futon store on N 16th and Main St.

That being said... recently got this for a guest with an "extended stay." We ordered this mattress and this bed frame. Total cost for a queen size bed/mattress: $381.00 (including shipping).

Quality was awesome and it's better than the bed we're using ourselves at more than 3x the price.

I didn't actually commit to a brand. I just buy a ~$350 queen sized ~10 inch thick one and it lasts until I don't like the color and get a new one.

I just checked my amazon history, and the last two I bought were Zinus, and Lucid, though I am sure those are no name brands.

u/Skitzie · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

On Amazon.com, I bought an off-brand Temporpedic mattress. IT WAS $300. That's it. Buy the queen size, it was king size. It comes in a 2.5' x 2' x 6' box. Open it up, cut the hard, plastic ribbon off of it. It will blow up like a balloon. Prop it up against a wall or something in an open, airy spare room (reviews said it smelled like chemicals, they weren't lying) for 3 DAYS. DO IT. The smell goes away. Then put that shit in your bedroom and SLEEP LIKE ROYALTY. I'm serious, shit is awesome. No more back pain, sound sleep, shit is awesome, pillow-top mattress. $300 PEOPLE, do it, it's worth it. AND, with Amazon prime (or student prime-just input your school email) shipping is FREE. That's like a $50 thing shipped FREE. DO IT.

I've been using a 10" block of memory foam and it's the best mattress I have ever owned for a fraction of the cost of what you could buy from mattress stores in town. There's no commission involved, no dealing with salespersons, and it's delivered to your door in a few days.

Everyone I know who has purchased this thing thinks it's amazing:

Costco is a good option. If you want to try something new I got this memory foam off amazon and am so happy with it! (this is the other popular brand they carry). I work as a server and having this mattress helps my back a lot. Check out the reviews for memory foam on amazon and see if it's right for you. They're cheaper than the cheapest of a regular mattress and in my opinion better than any other mattress I've slept on. Highly recommended.

If you really want to go cheap though, find one on craigslist. If you end up going to a store $400-$500 for a regular mattress isn't a bad price. Might have to go to a few stores and haggle to find this price.

u/SemenInYourStool · 1 pointr/malelivingspace

Mine was pretty pricey. I bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0092UCN0Y

You can definitely find cheaper ones though, like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-Inch-Plush-Memory-Mattress/dp/B0088YV7XY

I know you want to be able to move things easily and for free, and I was in the exact same boat, but seriously... the $50 you'd pay someone to move your bed for you will be worth it compared to sleeping on a futon pad. A nice thick memory foam mattress is so, so, so very worth it.

EDIT: This one's only $220 : https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-Inch-Memory-Foam-Mattress/dp/B00474X5DO/ref=sr_1_7?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1481050459&sr=1-7&keywords=memory+foam+mattress

I got a queen size 10 inch thick memory foam (only the top 2.5" is actual memory foam) mattress on Amazon for $300. Best $300 I have EVER spent.

u/red3eard · 1 pointr/Mattress

I bought that mattress used and for whatever reason it's what works for my back. This mattress seems to be similar in make. Is it the same but labeled differently?

u/Applegravy · 1 pointr/explainlikeimfive

personally, I was going to suggest Lucid. foam mattresses that aren't treated with any harsh chemicals, with a long warranty, and for very low prices when compared to virtually anything else I've seen. where else can you get a 10 inch California King for $400?

looking at that, Tuft and Needle seems to have the big advantage of being more breathable, which my Lucid mattress definitely doesn't have. for an extra $200 or so, why not get a breathable mattress? it's still nothing compared to what a furniture store charges. I'd say their overall quality is pretty comparable otherwise.

u/AThoughtPolice · 1 pointr/Mattress

At that price point I am pretty sure they are all going to feel the same.

I almost ordered one of these

LUCID 10 Inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress - Medium Feel - CertiPUR-US Certified - 10-Year U.S. Warranty - Queen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00474X5DO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_x9EACb9V3NX91

Ended up getting a Nectar instead, 650 range.

u/throwawayblaaaarg · 1 pointr/Frugal

I bought a memory foam mattress off of Amazon last year for under 300. I like a soft bed though so I also bought a 60 dollar soft memory foam topper, this is a nice way to save the bed a little wear and save it from the ever possible cat vomit. I love it, I pretty much hate sleeping anywhere but my own bed. It doesn't seem to be showing wear at 1 year old, but I don't weigh a lot. Mine is a queen. I think this is what I got but I think I paid 260 for mine.

u/adavidmiller · 1 pointr/Hamilton

I had one of these too:
https://www.amazon.ca/Mattress-Dual-Layered-CertiPUR-US-Certified-Warranty/dp/B00474X5DO

Bit on the firm side but a pretty decent mattress for the price (although I got it on sale for $450 or so)
