I don't have Yakima stackers, I have the Thule ones and use them with 12' Kayaks.
Although to be honest, it looks like the Yakima stackers come with their own straps and do it completely different...
You're bringing both ends of the strap over the kayak right?

Another thing you may want is some foam pads...with foam pads you can really cinch the kayak down onto the bars and not worry about damaging the kayak.

Not the super long ones, although they would work fine too. There's tons of foam blocks on Amazon and probably a few options at your local Dicks. I suspect pool noodles would work fine too.
Once strapped down to your rack/car, you should be able to grab the side of they kayak and rock it back and forth, and it should rock your whole car, and not slide at all.
