I've been pretty hesitant with adding off-beat items for fear that the guests/older family members would respond poorly to them, but this thread has given me new life! Some other things I've added are:

dog food seasoning: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JVGM9HJ?colid=3DUVWFNDPNHAV&coliid=IWR84S6IHHVQ7&ref_=wr_ov_pt

heated camping chairs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W14Y88P?colid=3DUVWFNDPNHAV&coliid=I1A5TDYYFZ3613&ref_=wr_ov_pt

a nest-hammock: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B1XGGB8?colid=3DUVWFNDPNHAV&coliid=I15ZWBW9TDWGU9&ref_=wr_ov_pt

lightsaber chopsticks: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NZNS5TN?colid=3DUVWFNDPNHAV&coliid=I3AWO13U71XHSH&ref_=wr_ov_pt

"miracle fruit" tablets (they make anything, even vinegar, taste sweet): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002JANPDI?colid=3DUVWFNDPNHAV&coliid=I3QN4E9Z8G7HI4&ref_=wr_ov_pt

3D papercraft T-REX head: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G73T8LT?colid=3DUVWFNDPNHAV&coliid=I27Y4DY83MF0DR&ref_=wr_ov_pt

I've looked on https://www.uncommongoods.com/ and https://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/ for funny ideas and am constantly refreshing this thread to see other people's awesome ideas!

Yikes, I'd say totally ignore what was written. Yeah she's trying to lose weight, but if she's already really overweight holiday treats won't make much of a difference. Don't get sugarfree candy or something like that, it will just make it more awkward.

One thing I'm getting for a 'food' gift exchange one side of the family is doing is a gift basket with this in it. Read the reviews for more info but basically you let this tablet dissolve on your tongue and then for the next half hour/hour or so it changes your tastebuds a bit. Lemons apparently taste like sweet lemonade, grapefruits taste super sweet. What I plan on doing is wrapping these up (you can also buy in a pack of 1 for like $13) along with grapefruit, lemons, limes, maybe some other fruits too. It seemed from the reviews that sour fruits were what it worked best with. So maybe try that, it kind of covers both your bases, getting her a sweet treat that also isn't unhealthy!

I've been reading through this sub for the past few days (keto noob here) and can't believe no one's mentioned miracle berry. You can eat spoonfuls of unsweetened (naturally or artificially) cream cheese that taste like cheesecake and drink straight lemon juice that tastes like lemonade.

Way before I ever heard of keto I bought some of the tablets on Amazon to see if it was bunk. It wasn't. They're made from a berry that, when chewed, block the sour receptors on the tongue which enhances the sweetness that we would otherwise miss. It has no affect on insulin (unless there is a mental aspect to insulin production) and no sugar or other sweeteners. It lasts about an hour and we had a lot of fun playing around with it trying different foods.

I'd be interested to try it with a 90% dark chocolate and see how it tastes. Or even adding the smallest bit of honey to tea. Or strawberries and cream. I imagine it could "stretch" the natural or added sugars so you could enjoy a "real" dessert. However, I started this diet due to such an extreme sugar addiction that it was causing major withdrawals and anxiety every day. I'll hold off for now but will keep it in mind for the future.

Anyway, here's the kind I bought.

When in doubt, and only if your family has low-ish expectations and not hoping for TVs and cashmere, buy everyone these mBerries and get a shitload of fruits and candy and make a platter and give everyone a $10 experience that's SUPER bizarre. Basically you let them dissolve on your tongue and it makes everything sweeter even if they are sour af (lemons, limes, warheads, you name it)

I already used this one up last year. But yeah. It blew minds.

> PTC strips - I also do the super taster test but with blue dye to count taste buds. How do the PTC strips differ from this?

I haven't seen the blue die thing. This is just fast an visceral. The stupertasters will know immediately and taste the super bitter, while the non tasters will sit there wondering what is going on. I generally do this with the starburst thing to give them a better taste at the end of class.

> What do you do with the juice for CC?

Go buy a jug of hawaiian punch, lemonade, or similarly sugary juice and a box of bathroom dixie cups. Give each student a half full cup. Read the Into & Education and Early Life sections on Pavlov (replacing some of the pronouns with his name). Every time you say "Pavlov" they have to dip their finger into the cup then put it in their mouth. When you get to the last paragraph, tell them to stop and just listen. Most will still salivate when you say Pavlov. Then keep talking say the name a few times and talk about habituation, say similar names to talk about generalization and discrimination. Talk about the future and extinction and spontaneous recovery.

> What is the clapping activity?

This is a shaping activity. Send one student out of the room. The class picks something they want the student to do. Write their name on the board, do a pushup, whatever. Tell the class to clap as they get closer to the goal, but to raise their standards as they go. Tell the outside student that they have to be doing something, but no other instruction. The class will shape the students behavior to the task.
