I have a Magicforce 68 with custom keycaps which incorporate pink, blue, and color into the color scheme. That board isn't full-size, but it has an arrow cluster, which was important for me, and does well for gaming.

The Gateron Brown version cost me $63 shipped dude

That's the APEX 350, which is not even mechanical. It's definitely not recommended. The [Magicforce 68] (https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-GATERON-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B072M53N2D/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1499459265&sr=1-4&keywords=magicforce+gateron) would be a far better option at that price range.

Here is one of the options on Amazon, with Gateron Browns in white case and white LEDs. Not sure how you had trouble...the whole list of them should pop up when you search "Magicforce 68".

I have a Magicforce 68key with Gateron Browns for $40 shipped. (white model)

How big of a keyboard do you want? Is a numpad required?

You can get a well built mechanical keyboard with a handful of features on it fairly cheap

Check out the MagicForce 68 which has Outemu Browns. Not bad for the price: $36 USD.

They also have backlit versions which are a bit more in a black or white version but use Gateron Switches instead. Gateron Browns are considerably smoother than the scratchy Cherry MX Browns so these are actually better to type on IMO.

I've had the basic white one with Outemu Brown for years now and it's still performing wel despite heavy use by my kids and wife with the family computer. Not bad for a keeb less than $50!

I'd recommend the same board with either Gateron or Outemu brown switches. Unless you know for a fact that you're getting brand new, retooled Cherry browns, Gateron and Outemu are both superior and a lot cheaper.

First mechanical keyboard purchase coming up.
Narrowed down to 3 options, but can't decide between the

  • magicforce68 with gateron browns:
  • magicforce82 with cherry mx browns:
  • Rantopad MXX Chroma RGB with gateron browns:

Preference is a smaller backlit keyboard with gateron browns, but I work with 3D and compositing applications and am not sure how irritating the use of function+ key will be (meaning I use f-keys, page up/down/home/end keys, and lots of hotkeys). Also looked at boards like the rapid fire and element, but I cannot stand the overtly gamer keycap font. It is a deal breaker for me and I cannot afford to purchase new keycaps at this time with a >$100 budget.

I do plan on purchasing a mechanical number pad which I DO want separated from the rest of the keyboard (I plan to place it to the left of my keyboard when needed, and stow it when not).

    DETAILS
The Rantopad seems to have the added bonus of RGB chroma which is not a much have, but nice, but it has the largest form factor and would save no space when pared with the numberpad.

The magicforce82 is my current fav though it does not offer gaterons (runs cherry mx), and a nice blue backlight for legibility on white keys, but is already at the top of my budget. I'd prefer to avoid dropping much over $100 for the total sum of all boards (the number pad being around $25-30) and this board sits at $92.

magicforce68 - Seems to solve budget issues, and offers gaterons, plus has received high praise, buuuuut I have a nagging fear in the back of my mind that it could affect my work performance. The keycap font is also a bit gamey, but for some reason on this particular white silver board it works.

    ---TL:DR---
I guess my BIGGEST overall question is for people using the magicforce68 for things other than gaming (running zbrush/photoshop/after effects/c4d/maya/coding) and if they felt it was restricting their workflow, and if so, if people prefer 82 key compressed keboards like the magicforce over vanilla tenkeyeless one like the mxx rantopad?

Any experience on these fronts would be helpful.

I think a better alternative, for a similar form factor and price, is the qisan magicforce brand keyboards on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072M53N2D/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_CVB4Cb7WM7SY4

I've used one for a couple years and there haven't been any issues.

u/theimmc · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Not sure if you're referring to keycaps or switches. I'm assuming switches because the question makes more sense that way.

What type of switch are you interested in? Linear, tactile or clicky?

Cherry MX: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01872MCIA

Gateron: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072M53N2D

If you really mean keycaps, however, just get them separately.

u/redautumnleaves · 1 pointr/Rainbow6

You might consider trying out Qisan. I have their Magicforce w. gateron brown switches:

It's solid and the space saved is great.

Yeah to be honest I have researched a lot tonight and decided to go for gateron, I'm researching what keyboard to get, for now, I am considering this one https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-GATERON-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B072M53N2D/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1501812919&sr=8-6&keywords=qisan+68 with brown gateron switches which looks so fucking nice and I'll keep investigating for some more.
