Das keyboards get some flak for being overpriced, but at $60 this is a pretty good deal. Now that they have apparently sold out, see below for some alternatives.

EDIT: if you search for Das on /r/mechanicalkeyboards you'll find lots of people talking about how Das keyboards have declined in quality recently and some controversy about the software for one of their new models (not this KB) being Windows only. The keycaps Das uses are also said to be low quality. These issues aside, I personally think this is a good deal. If you are in the market for a full size mechanical keyboard, it's hard to find a better keyboard for the price. Some alternatives that are better but more expensive:

  • $80: iKBC CD108 w/ MX Clear Switches
  • $90 for full-size, $80 for tenkeyless: Cooler Master MasterKeys S
  • $40, but 60% layout not full-sized: Magicforce68

EDIT 2: as /u/SolixTanaka pointed out below, the Magicforce keyboards have questionable quality control. It's probably not fair to say they are better than Das keyboards. Some users love them and have no problems, others find their board crapping out after a few months (or sooner). Buyer beware. I like them because they are a cheap way to try out a 60% layout if that's something that interests you but you're unsure if you'll like it.

If you're looking on the budget end, these keyboards will all be on sale tomorrow:

u/Dall0o · 18 pointsr/buildapc

I bought a $40 Magicforce 68 for work. I really like it. Great Keyboard with Brown Outemu (Cherry MX copycat). It is a popular cheap choice on /r/mechanicalkeyboards.

Check all your boxes but backlit. If you really want a backlit one, you can find it for $60. Worth it? You see...

u/KoloHickory · 18 pointsr/pcmasterrace

With leds on

Amazon link for the keyboard

Usually in the cheap range (<$40), it is hard to find browns. They pretty much all come with blues.

Other boards i like if you are in the market

Magicforce 68 Outemu browns

Redragon K552 Outemu blues

I'll represent /r/mechanicalkeyboards here. Rant incoming.

Now, many of us do like to hook up smaller sized keyboards to our iPads (you'll occasionally see builds people do where they make a custom, usually wooden, case to hold their ipad and a keyboard like this).

I have many issues with this

  1. Obviously the price. Mechanical keyboards are pricey, but the best of the best with standard (Cherry MX style like this) switches (the mechanism under every key) won't run you over $200. Usually smaller form factors like this are slightly cheaper too.
  2. The switches. First off, it doesn't mention the make of the switch. While they are undoubtedly "MX" style, I highly suspect they are clones and not made by Cherry. Now, clones generally range from okay (Kailh) to great (gateron), but I suspect more of the former. At this price, I expect the legitimate thing or Gateron if not.
  3. The switches, again. "Tactile "Clicky" Mechanical Switch " literally is the poorest description ever. "MX" style switches come in linear, tactile (there's a bump as you go down), and clicky (big bump, and click sound). They mean the latter, but honestly you could mix it up with the tactile style. Terrible description.
  4. The typewriter keycaps are cool looking, but I don't think they're very functional. Typical keycaps are a great design. Your fingers naturally move up and down, so they are contoured to be flat on the vertical and "scooped" on the horizontal. This allows you to move up and down and discourages side to side. They also overall are scultped on the side to make it easiest to reach the each successive row from your home row (https://massdrop-s3.imgix.net/product-images/keycapprofileround2.png?auto=format&fm=jpg&fit=crop&w=376&dpr=1). So these flat keycaps don't appeal much to me.

Now the keycap look might be your style, and the build quality, battery, and bluetooth are also good features. However, the price just isn't justifyable.

If you want a mechanical keyboard/tablet duo, just get the magicforce 68: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0 , and a converter for usb to lightning for an ipad. Or nothing for an android microusb tablet (they include a converter for that in the box!). Literally a fraction of the cost, at only the loss of wireless/battery.
u/NelyafinweMaitimo · 17 pointsr/raspberry_pi

This one! tbh I was looking for a 40%, but $40 was too good to pass up, and this one is still pretty small.

u/idiot_proof · 10 pointsr/buildapc

Here are my suggestions.

Mice:

  • G305 is the top of my list. It's light, lightspeed wireless, good buttons, and a "perfect" sensor. 6 month battery with AA, you can make it significantly lighter with a AAA lithium ion with some tin foil jammed in it.
  • G502 is the alternative if you want a wired, heavier mouse with more buttons and a better scroll wheel (it also goes left and right). You can get the different varieties of it, it doesn't really matter. They're all great.
  • Treat yo self? Logitech G Pro Wireless. It's $150. It's the pro mouse. It's slightly bigger than the G305 and not that different. Save the $100, get the G305.
  • Avoid: Corsair Dark Core RGB (and SE). You can get this for $25. It's supposed to be a wirelessly rechargeable wireless mouse (got all that?) with RGB, programmable buttons, and the peak of Corsair's mouse technology. It's shit. Dog shit. It doesn't recharge consistently (wirelessly) and has terrible mouse feet, leading to more friction when using it. The software is okay, but I cannot recommend this mouse despite the good price.

    Keyboards:

  • Small form factor for cheap? Grab a 68 key keyboard with the arrow keys and some knock off cherries. They're like $40 and type well. I liked this one by Quisan.
  • Want full sized? Go refurb Corsair or Logitech. Here is a Corsair K70 for $50. Here is the Logitech G610 for $60.
  • Treat yo self? I got a Logitech G613 wireless mechanical for about $90. It's nice to type on, wireless with no lag, and the battery lasts for 6 months or more (mine is going on more).
  • Avoid: bluetooth keyboards. That's really it. I've had Logitech, Corsair, and knock offs all work just fine for me. There are better brands, but pretty much everything from $20 mechs to $150 ones work pretty well if you follow reviews.

I'll admit these are mostly from my perspective from the US, so I'm not sure how to check UK prices. I would imagine that since these are large brands, most of the pricing would be consistent.

Redragon K551 with Blues (Keep in mind this is the one with red backlighting. You can choose the one with no backlighting if you don’t want it. Rainbow one is a couple bucks over your budget but has set lights while the RGB one is roughly 5 bucks over your budget but has relatively programmable lighting):

https://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Mechanical-Redragon-illuminated-ABS-Metal/dp/B016M91SS0?th=1&psc=1

Redragon K552 with Blues (The TKL version of the K551. This is the rainbow version with set colors for each switch as it’s under your budget. The RGB version is over your budget by 3 bucks. Same applies though, you can go for no lighting or just plain red for less):

https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-KUMARA-Backlit-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B01LZN7MLE?th=1&psc=1

Velocifire full-size with Blues (Just know that rainbow LEDs means you cannot change the color of the switches. It is not full RGB. It’s still pretty cheap if you want at least some multicolor things, but the colors you see are the colors you get. A bargain for 26 USD though, cheaper than the Redragon K551 rainbow version, although the color of the board is harder to work into a setup compared to the K551’s straight black):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01C8HMIES/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1523898681&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=Velocifire&dpPl=1&dpID=51xyHHRfUTL&ref=plSrch

There is also a version of the VM30 with black switches and is also 25 USD. It seems out of stock right now. If you want to wait a bit on that, it’s the cheapest board I’m aware of that comes with black switches:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07BFGZ891/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1523899072&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=VM30+Black+switches&dpPl=1&dpID=51MCGebQeDL&ref=plSrch

Velocifire full size with Browns (If you’re looking at the wireless version, don’t. The wireless mode of it sucks according to everyone I’ve asked who got it. The only good thing of the wireless version is that you can run wired so that means you’re paying an extra 10 bucks for a removable cable option):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M0QEYR4/?th=1&psc=1

Velocifire TKL with Browns (I linked the wireless version because it seems like the wired version is discontinued. If you can find it, the wired version has blue backlighting and an attached cable for 30 USD. The wireless has a crappy wireless mode, no backlighting as far as I’m aware, but a detachable cable for 40 USD)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B076D5WVYG/

If you’re looking for something like red switches because “gaming,” just know that is pure marketing bullshit. If you’re looking at reds because you actually want them. I’m aware that the Qisan Magicforce also comes in red, but I couldn’t find the 40 dollar option. That’s the only board I’m aware of that has reds in your budget range, but I’m sure someone who knows more can throw one out.

u/skryzskruzzle · 7 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Magicforce68?
It's not exactly a TKL, but it has the same functionality through the FN key.

If you want a quiet(er) typing experience, go for Browns, Blacks, or Reds. Avoid Blues. If you wanted to make your keyboard slightly quieter, you could use o-rings to dampen the bottom out sound

u/abrownn · 7 pointsr/buildapcsales

I have that third board, got it off MassDrop last year and I love it! It's my first board and I don't have many complaints. Solid construction, good finish, no dead LEDs after a year -- the keys are eggshell white and get dirty super easily and the polished edge of the board scratches super easy, but it's a great board otherwise. 9/10 do recommend. Here's my unboxing ftc

Edit: for those looking for a backlit version off of Amazon, heres the one I ordered with orange WASD/blue lights, here is a black body blue backlit version sold by the manufacturer and heres a silver body white light version. Heres an unlit version on prime day special for $35.

u/sherminator19 · 6 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Not that much

You can get cheaper (as seen in the recommendations), but this is my suggestion. The person I replied to didn't ask for a $34 option, just a cheaper option.

u/7h3_Pr0v010n3 · 6 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with a Magicforce 68 as an entry level mechanical keyboard. Qisan sells them on Amazon with Outemu switches, another Cherry MX clone similar to Kailh switches, for about $40 here.

So I hate to have you start a new addiction ;) but the ladies and lads over at /r/mechanicalkeyboards have a plethora of different keyboards varying in price. The caps were gifted to me and originally black. This is a MagicForce 68 that I purchased used from a friend so I am not 100% on the MSRP this has MX Black on it.

Keycaps: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/galaxy-c-pbt-all-over-dye-subbed-keycap-set currently have a sale on Massdrop for them I saw. My friends got it for me during Christmas at the original $100 price point this is Almost 50 bucks off!

Keyboard:The Black on is the pricer of the two probably be cause of the switches. https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-GATERON-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E57PUNA/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1486745275&sr=8-5&keywords=magicforce+68

As others have mentioned, that's not a mech board, but easy to see the confusion. Here are some other amazon alternatives within your budget:

These are clicky loud switches

Magicforce with Outemou Blues

Here is the same board but with Outemou Brown switches, these are tactile, so you feel the bump, but don't have the click sound

Magicforce with Outemou Browns

And if you want cherry switches, this is the magicforce with cherry switches and is backlit (the other two are not)

Magicforce with Cherry switches

If you are okay with a smaller form factor and want a cheap mechanical keyboard, you can check this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0
It comes with Oetemu Browns and not Cherry MX Browns, but for the price they are good. The function row keys are available through combinations with the Fn key.
Of course, you should check out /r/mechanicalkeyboards .

Qisan MagicForce. Very affordable. Can get them in a wide variety of switches. https://www.amazon.com/Qisan-Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce/dp/B01E8KO2B0

u/greengorilla60 · 4 pointsr/battlestations

/u/basicforest89 It's the Magicforce 68.

u/Jegler · 4 pointsr/osugame

The Magicforce 68 is probably the best budget mech you can go for, worth spending just a little more for it

u/NoSatellite · 4 pointsr/mechmarket

Unfortunately, you’re not going to find much on this sub for less than $50.00.

You could look at the Magiforce 68 - it’s an excellent starter keyboard.

Drevo is also a good place to start. The Gramr is less than $50.00. The Excalibur is a bit more expensive, but it is also a nicer board.

Hope this helps, and GLWB!

So, here's a quick list of boards, from amazon. I went with them for a search on mechanical boards, and filtered by 4 stars +, and read some of the critical reviews and sort through the ones that seemed to be overwhelmingly positive, with no "i did this for a kickback" though they no longer allow that, those reviews still skew it. Next, I went with brands that, well I had heard of. I just so happened to have seen or read reviews on boards from these companies, and while they often get the board for free in these situations, I still have seen them in action, or seen critical reviews of a product from them before. So, would venture to say these are probably some of the more... okay brands, of these "cheap" brands. Now, I included mostly TKL boards, since they happen to be cheaper, and I also included a "wireless" and quite a few backlit ones. I know you said that didn't matter, but they were within budget at met the review requirements, and your other reqs, albeit at typically higher prices. Also, I tried not to include the scam of "mechanical feeling."

So, from here, I'll list them. And you should understand you can buy boards from Newegg, fry's, microcenter, target etc.... and you can try to find your own with these tips. I simply used Amazon because it offers free shipping on most items over $25 even without prime. As well, they tend to be... somewhat responsible for their sellers.

Again, some things to keep in mind; add tax to most, if not all of these. I tried to keep them as far under $40 as I could, but the ones with decent reviews don't seem to go as low. As well, please feel free to do your own research. Or, if you want we can try on your preferred shopping site. Seek other users advice, maybe one of the mechanical keyboard subs will offer better advice. You absolutely do not have to buy any of these, nor do I get anything if you do. Also, please copy and paste the names of the boards for a youtube search, many of these low end boards send them out for review for coverage. Also, you could try doing a search yourself, just to check, "Mechanical keyboards" into amazon or whatever, and sort by reviews, and price, and avoid "MECHANICAL FEEL" at all costs, as it is not truely mechanical. I hope I've helped at least somewhat, and again, you absolutely don't have to settle on a link I provided, consider waiting for a sale, or observing this sub for a bit. Most of those boards likely hover around their price or will go lower.

Good luck, and I hope I've helped even a little. Let me know if I can help more.

Edit: Also, there's no need to rush into a buy at all, assuming you don't need one ASAP. Shop around, watch for deals on one you're interested, or just watch for new things to enter your price range.

u/PedanticGoatReviews · 4 pointsr/buildapcsales

TBH, I'd just buy a cheap one off Amazon. I use the Magicforce Mechanical Tenkeyless with brown switches, it was 30 bucks, and it works great. I also am a transcriptionist, so I type all the damn time, and it's stood up to a whole lot o' typing and it feels great. Any of the other knock-off switches and cheaper brands are usually pretty good, too. No need to buy a more expensive mechanical keyboard now that they make them cheaper now. You're just paying more for a name.

It's 40 now: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0

It's good. Have to use function keys for F-keys, but I don't find it to be a problem. They have similarly priced ones with F keys.

u/alose · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

How do you feel about building your own

Otherwise you could go slightly larger like a Magicforce 68 or Varmilo VA68.

Next up in size would be a Drevo Gramr, Calibur, or Excalibur. Vortex Race3 is similar in size, but better stock caps and limited programability.

Otherwise, get a Ducky One TKL.

u/LATORR1g · 4 pointsr/MMA

It's a magicforce 68 key with Gateron brown switches. I prefer small keyboards without a lot of frill. This one has LEDs which I usually avoid but I actually don't mind them. To me the standout "features" are the lack of F-row and no numpad. Just what I need for gaming and typing.

u/Dweather_ · 4 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Sure! One board that I found when I first started digging into this hobby was Velocifire's TKL01, which let me know how brown switches felt. There's also the RedDragon Kumara which I see around a lot from people that want to try the hobby before they really deeply invest. There's also the Magicforce 68 which is one of the most recommended budget boards around here, especially for people that want to flirt with smaller layouts than TKL or full size.

u/omegafivethreefive · 3 pointsr/mechmarket

Honestly your choices are limited but you can still get a beginner board.

Go over the following link to get a better feel of the available boards:

Not sure if you wanted < TKL or > TKL but for that price, if my suggestion is that you go with a Magic Force 68. Never used it personally but it seems like the go to for budget boards. You'll be able to switch the keycaps and the case easily if that ever becomes your thing.

In any case, good luck with your search :)

u/woodkeys_click · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Magicforce 68 - If you're looking for really cheap. $40 on Amazon. Commonly recommended as a decent starter board on here. Get one with brown or black switches, not blue, if you want them to be quiet. They're not silent, but not really much (if any) louder than a membrane board.

u/icedtia · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

The Magicforce boards are excellent! I currently have the blue switch version and for $40 it exceeded my expectations.

The usual recommendation for your budget would be the Magicforce 68, but I'm not sure if you want to go that small or if you like the look of it. For a full-size keyboard, maybe the Velocifire VM01 or you can go a bit smaller with the Velocifire TKL01.

Gaterons, which most people find actually superior to Cherry since they're smoother and more tactile

The non-backlit Magicforce 68 has a sort of clean looking font, its not "G4M3R" like the backlit version.

https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1502402640&sr=8-3&keywords=magicforce+68

There might be other keyboards with a somewhat clean font but that's the first one that came to mind, its $40 and you can always change the caps afterwards.

u/dllnllb · 3 pointsr/GirlGamers

Okay!

In that case, you could try this $40 Qisan keyboard (no number pad, function row is integrated into the number row) or this $40 Drevo keyboard (no number pad, has separate number and functions rows, but the bottom row and the right shift are non-standard). Those links are both for brown switches, but there are other options available.

They both come with white keycaps, but if you want more colorful ones that are (relatively) inexpensive, I'd recommend Tai-Hao.

If you're willing to wait a little bit, you could also check out Massdrop to see if any keycap sets are dropping there for a lower price. The Tai-Hao keycaps that are available there (like these) say they won't ship until 2-3 months after the drop ends, but in my experience you'll probably actually only have to wait a week or so to get them.

Am I missing something obvious? Not to be mean but this board without the keycaps is $40 on amazon

u/K3lp_Boy · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

If you're just looking for something mechanical, probably a Magicforce 68.

u/digisax · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

The Corsair isn't mechanical. As for the EagleTec I know nothing about it but it doesn't look great.

For an actual suggestion a Magicforce 68 is really good especially for the price https://smile.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0?sa-no-redirect=1

They also make a full size but it's a bit more money https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HHTFSIK/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_1_w

u/AirlessTHEGOOSE · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Oh is it? Oh jeez...

For 40$ (now 33!) my first board was the Red Dragon Kumara - has those Outemu Blues and red backlighting that's not too obnoxious; although these days I'd reccommend a MagicForce 68 for a first time board.

u/aspenc4 · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

There's a lot out there, and it can be tough figuring out where to begin even with the wiki. In my opinion, figuring out your needs and budget are the two most important things you can do when you're first jumping in.

  • Needs -

Ask yourself what you'll mainly be using your board for; are you a gamer that spends most of their time playing FPS, or do mainly use your board for work / school related activities? A little bit of both? Does your board need to be pack and go, or will it mainly be stationary at a pc? Do you want to build yourself or do you want a prebuilt that just works? Once you have a few basic requirements in mind, you can use those as a guideline to start to piecing together what you need for your situation. For example, I game a tiny bit but not enough to justify building a board around it. I do however spend quite a bit of time on my board for work and I travel quite often, so I wanted something portable that was ideal for hours of typing, and it had to have a navigation cluster. From there, I decided on a 65% board with tactile switches.

  • Budget -

It's easy to go down the rabbit hole and spend elevendy billion dollars on a custom board with all the bells and whistles, then come to find out out you don't like the layout, switch type, cap profile etc. There are MANY different price points out there; I can almost assure you that you can find something up your alley without breaking the bank. My first board that I mentioned above was a [Magic Force 68] (https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510046923&sr=8-3&keywords=magicforce+68+brown) that I got on sale for $30, and I still love that little thing. Since then I've built 3 custom boards and a macro pad, and I've got a few more builds in the works too, but I did it all bit by bit.

After you figure out what your needs are and your budget, i suggest checking out switch types and figuring out what you think you'll like. If you're unsure, you can always grab a [switch tester] (https://www.novelkeys.xyz/product-category/switchtesters/) to help you narrow it down. and if you go the DIY route, [spacecat design] (http://shop.spacecat.design/) has a lot of great tools to get you started.

I hope you find this helpful; this is really only scratching the surface. Don't be intimidated with all of the info; the more you hang around (kudos to you for jumping in after a week, I lurked for months before I asked any questions) the more you'll learn. It all starts to come together over time, so stick with it and don't be afraid to ask questions. Someone will point you in the right direction more often than not.

If for some reason you do find yourself hanging though, feel free to message me and I'll be glad to help you out. :)
u/dermixxer · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Tough call. Most cheap keyboards are either <75% and have blue or black switches.

There are not many brown clones I am aware of (aside from Gateron), if you're willing to go smaller than TKL, you have the option to go for a Magicforce 68, which comes with OUTEMU Browns for $40.

The cheapest fullsize is probably the Rosewill 9000 for ~ $80.

EDIT: Take a look at aliexpress, you might get lucky there.

u/zjquid · 3 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Specs:

Qisan/Magicforce 68 - Outemu Brown Switches

Filco SA Keycaps

When I got the keycaps, the left shift was missing one of the white plugs (for keyboards with wire stabilizers), which ultimately didn't matter because this keyboard has cherry-style stabilizers. However, two other big keys had the plugs glued in, making it quite hard to take them out. On the enter key, one of the white plugs been broken and glued back together, rendering it unusable for a wire-stabilizer keyboard. One of the stabilizer stalks in the backspace key was loose upon arrival, and promptly broke off when I tried to take out the glued-in plug, which seems to be a common problem

Overall, the keycaps are very nice and function perfectly (aside from the backspace), and I'm excited to use this for many years to come!

I got browns. And I'd do it again I like the tactile feed back.

I needed a new keyboard because the membrane one I'd been using didn't have function keys to control music and was generally terrible. I did some research and realized they keyboard I wanted was a out of my current budget and would take a while to ship.

Being only $40 I expected it to feel a little cheap but I as surprised by the heft out of the box feels really well built.

I love typing on it. The space-bar keys shape did feel a little awkward at first and I considered replacing with an aftermarket cap it but I quickly got used to it and won't even bother at this point.

It's definitely not quiet to type on which might bother people around you but like I said I enjoy it.

Here's a size comparison with a membrane keyboard that came bundled with one of my families PCs and I taped out the size of the 84 keyboard.

Mine is not the version with back lighting or any of that wasn't what I was looking for.

I don't like the magic force logo above the arrow keys I wish it was all uniformly brushed but again for how cheap it was I can't complain.

I would definitely buy it again but I do want dedicated function keys and will upgrade when I can afford to custom build exactly what I want.

I have a few!
I have my first mechanical keyboard, that has since been retired, the Magicforce 68 in Outemu Browns. The second and my primary one is the Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro M with Cherry MX Browns and Tai Hao Midnight Dawn keycaps. Lastly, I use the Obins Anne Pro with Gateron Browns occasionally.

u/Garfield131415 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Magicforce 68 is a cheap and great Mech. Good thing about it is that you can choose what you want:

u/chemicalwill · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I really like the font on this Magicforce 68. I think it looks very apple-esque

u/deeoh · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Well, I'm building a second Atreus, so that may be my favorite. I like it better for its portability factor, but the Let's Split is great for ergonomics (being able to put the halves at shoulder width is really nice). I think the two things that you get from a wasd over a corsair are build quality and configurability. The wasd is built with a steel plate, so there's no flex in the keyboard. And when I say configurability, that's a combination of the DIP switches on the back and the number of different switch types that they come in. Now, Cherry isn't the only switch manufacturer in the game, in fact, both of my customs use something else (Zealio and Kailh). There are other boards out there that may be less expensive and have just as good a typing experience as the CODE. My brother likes his Magicforce 68, but that didn't stop him from building a Let's Split, too!

Ninja edit: he doesn't have a Mac, but like /u/hingino said, every keyboard is a Mac keyboard, in reality.

u/dcaminero · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

At that price point it is more determinant if you like the form factor (full keyboard, TKL, etc) and if they have a standard bottom row. Unfortunately the latter is not the case for the Drevo Gramr but it is for the Mantistek GK2 and the Magicforce 68.

Anyway, if you are based in USA this is Magicforce with Browns. (Not trying to force it, just in case you didn't see it! ;) )

u/dotbykorsk · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Do you tend to work from home, particularly late at night? RGB is a distraction but backlighting can be really good if you do so. If not then you're in luck because that makes things cheaper. I actually have an idea you might like: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0/

This is the brown switch model. I believe there are variants for red and black switches as well. You may find it to be to compact but some people (not me, bad shoulders) like this kind of thing, and it has a cable channel for reducing clutter even further. There is a white-backlight variant for another $20-30.

I got mine from Amazon. Mine has Kailh blacks but they come in various gateron and cherry varieties as well. This one is only $40 USD as of posting. It's my first mech and I love it. I know now that I prefer tactile switches, but you never forget your first ;)

u/fmillion · 2 pointsr/homelab

Amazon has cute little 10" HDMI/VGA monitors. I snapped one up when they were $50, last check I saw they were about $90. (Amazon prices can vary more than gas prices I swear.) It actually looks very crisp (it's NOT an 800x480 panel which is downsampling 720p, it's actually a real 1366x768 panel), and the onboard speakers (served either by HDMI or a line input) sound better than my 23" Dell monitor's speakers. Bonus, it runs on a standard 12V barrel jack connector, so if you have the right skills you can easily rig up a battery for it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GIZM81Y/

For a keyboard I can either use a mini mechanical keyboard I have: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0/ (it's missing lots of keys but you access them through the FN key, it's actually pretty awesome), or you could use a wireless keyboard of some kind, or something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Enhanced-Multimedia-Backlit-Wireless-Keyboard/dp/B00Q4VZDHY/

u/yourhardboiled · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

What kind of features and aesthetic are you looking for? I have this keyboard and really like it, but it might not be your taste.

From what I've gathered (and from my limited experience), knockoff switches are actually pretty good. It's the build quality and keycaps you have to watch out for on these budget boards, and if you eventually want better caps, they'll cost more than the board itself.

u/gmcalabr · 2 pointsr/fountainpens

Fucking damnit. That didn't take long. You were right:

The bug bit me quick. In the last 24 hours, I've researched Cherrys vs. offbrands, Outemu blues and Gateron browns, tried a Razer green set and Logitech proprietary linears at Best Buy, asked around, found lots of cool keycaps, tried to see how much it would be to buy a case and chipboard and switches and balancers and caps all separately, noped the fuck out of that, and settled on this:

https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-GATERON-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E57PUNA/ref=sr_1_2?srs=7936345011&ie=UTF8&qid=1487038381&sr=8-2&keywords=brown+black

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E8KO2B0/ref=s9_dcacsd_dcoop_bw_c_x_1_w

And why do I want these so bad?

If you can spare $40, this Magicforce 68 is a pretty good keyboard. It's a 60% board, so some of the extra key functions are layered underneath other keys. But it's not super hard to get used to.

If you need a full-size, it's a little bit more at $70.

u/intrepped · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Cheapest to most expensive recommendations:

Tomoko 87/104: $35.99 and $42.99 respectively

MagicForce 68: $39.99 with Kaihl Switches

Drevo Gramr: $39.99 with Outemu switches (iirc)

Magic Force 68 with Gateron: $62.99

It's actually the Qisan mechanical keyboard with Cherry Browns. I'm pretty sure there are other brands carrying the same keyboard though so it could also be a Hykker.

The keyboard has been great for the price. There is a much cheaper version that i owned. It isn't backlit and has clone brown switches. It was also great and I kind of preferred the clones more but can't do without backlit keys.

if youre alright with a tenkeyless, i recently got the qisan magicforce just to try out brown switches and its actually a great keyboard for the price, i was very surprised. if you dont care about back lighting and media keys etc and are just looking for a high quality, nice feeling keyboard, give it a try:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E8KO2B0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_AsAqDbENEX0JN

(also do not be fooled by cheap keyboards. not only do most people dislike the general clickiness of blue switches, cheap keyboards usually also have this metallic sound when you type and it really gets on peoples nerves)

as for the mouse, ive had a rival 300 for 3 years now and i cant complain, its simple but its got a great sensor and feels nice. its a bit large though.

Magic Force 68. You have access to insert, delete, page up, page down natively, and the FN key takes care of the rest. Uses gaterons. You can get with or without RGB, I've linked without for the cheapest possible option.

I have the 87-key version of this and I must say I'm quite happy with it. I could have gone with the one I've linked instead for sure though, I don't think I've ever pressed the function keys except for the occasional Alt+F4.

All switches are preference. There really doesn't exist a best switch for ____.

You use what you like, and that's about it. If noise is gonna be an issue, DO NOT get this switch, it's quite loud. If you think Blacks might be something you 're interested in, give them a try! Also note that there is a version with Outemu Browns.

Okay, so I've owned a Corsair K65 for a year now and still barely know anything about mechanical keyboards, but I'm learning more everyday. I love the MX Cherry Reds I have on it and have o-rings to dampen the noise, but I want something equally quiet or even quieter with some more feedback. I don't like clicky so I think MX Browns are good, if anyone has suggestions for me i'd appreciate it. I want a more compact keyboard, but I can't live without arrow keys, so I think a 68-key is best for me, and ideally it would be both wired and wireless, but that seems like a rare find. So either wired or wireless is fine, I just hate the bulky wire on my Corsair. I've also got a Tai-Hao Hawaii keyset coming in a couple months from Massdrop.

Now for my big question, can someone tell me the big difference between these two keyboards and why the prices are so different? Why would it be worth it to save up for the Varmilo?

Looking for more "classic" keys/keycaps in that tan and gray colorway you see on the old IBMs. I saw a full set of 26 letters from an old keyboard for $20 which I may go for if nothing else comes up, but I don't know if they are the same height as my current keys, so I'd rather get a full set of keys if possible.

Anything in a soft muted color, preferably (but not necessary) slightly off colored enter/esc/etc keys. I like the idea of having all of the letter keys a different color, also.

I very recently purchased my first mechanical keyboard, the Magic Force 68. I decided on this board, because it is the cheapest board listed in the buying guide.
Here are some things I do or don't like about it:

-I love the size and shape. I think you'd call this a 65% layout? It's probably my favorite part about the board.

-It feels very well built. Sturdy and doesn't slide around.

-Mechanical keys feel much nicer than the rubber ones; I believe these are Gateron Browns.

-I like the "tactile bump."

But

-I think the keys feel somewhat mushy. I don't care for them much.

-I don't like the color at all; I didn't think I would mind, but it's REALLY white and I just don't care for it.

Can you recommend any keyboards of similar design that maybe have clear or light gray switches?
I'd like a darker colored keyboard and RGB or back-lighting would be considered a plus.

I'm trying to keep it under $100, but so far the Glorious Modular Keyboard at $110 seems to be the closest thing I can find and it is TKL but not compact.

u/Autonomoose · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

EEk. I really can't recommend anything sub $50 on amazon except this but I would much rather go with their Gateron switches which runs $62. For other options, I can recommend this sale. It's not the prettiest, but it's a fantastic board for $20 more that will last you forever. These last two although cost more, would actually have resale value if you wanted to put it on ebay or mechmarket.

u/The-guy-behind-u · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Hey sorry I took so long. Some personal stuff came up and when I got back I saw what was happening with op and had to help there first.

So after looking for a bit I fond this Team Wolf with borwns which will have a bump and some noise but o-rings can help. For $10 more you can get black switches which are linear like reds but have a heavier spring so it takes more force to push.

The lights are static and the board has a few profiles including off.

Now for $40 you can also get a Magiforce 68. Now I know it isn't a tkl, I'm just trying to show a few options for budget boards because most budget boards just use blues.

I will advise you head over to /r/MechanicalKeyboards to ask for a budget tkl with linear switches because a lot of people over there know more than me. Tactile with o-rings can help with the noise so those are an option as well.

I'm looking for my second mechanical (First was a Razer Blackwidow lol) , I've been without one for almost half a year now, and I think it's about time haha.

I'll be be using it almost exclusively for gaming, and I want to avoid clicky switches (too noisy), I think I've pretty much decided on Browns (I don't want to wait for a Tester kit, so I'm going with the safest, most similar switch to the blue)

as a side note, are some keyboards capable of changing out the types of switches inside of them?

How is this keyboard? https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce-Qisan/dp/B01E8KO2B0

The low price is appealing, but at the same time I'm concerned about the quality. Otherwise it seems perfect.

another option is this

Exist, at least without backlit on outemu blue and brown. In amazon Spain outemu version is 20 euros cheaper than gateron version

u/ContemplativeOctopus · 1 pointr/SSBM

Here's all of the decent cheap ones I have saved on amazon. Only problem is that I think they're all cherry blue (replica) switches, so they're all pretty loud. Also, these are all tenkeyless because no one needs number pads unless they do data entry, and they take up a lot of space. I've had the tomoko keyboard on this list for about 2 years now and it's still in perfect condition.

u/pabloescobyte · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Check out the MagicForce 68 which has Outemu Browns. Not bad for the price: $36 USD.

They also have backlit versions which are a bit more in a black or white version but use Gateron Switches instead. Gateron Browns are considerably smoother than the scratchy Cherry MX Browns so these are actually better to type on IMO.

I've had the basic white one with Outemu Brown for years now and it's still performing wel despite heavy use by my kids and wife with the family computer. Not bad for a keeb less than $50!

u/ExuDeCandomble · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'd recommend the same board with either Gateron or Outemu brown switches. Unless you know for a fact that you're getting brand new, retooled Cherry browns, Gateron and Outemu are both superior and a lot cheaper.

u/The_Skeptic_One · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I know this is a bit over your budget but it doesn't get much cheaper than this

Magic 68 with browns. I honestly don't know how it is so cheap, but it's a great deal for what it is

u/kevin0125 · 1 pointr/AlienwareAlpha

Since you asked for recommendation for a good backlit keyboard with the budget <$100, I can strongly recommend Cherry MX Brown / Gateron Brown Mechanical Keyboards as they are both good for gaming and daily use. Here are couple of good, proven mechanical keyboards:

  • Corsair STRAFE ($90) - Link
  • Corsair Gaming K70 LUX ($80) - Link
  • CM Storm QuickFire Rapid ($85) - Link

Or, you can go with some cheaper keyboards with Gateron Brown (Here is one that's only $40, but the rather unconventional layout might confuse you).

/r/MechanicalKeyboards is a great resource on this subject, and I really suggest that you check them out.
u/BeyondClueless · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I was wondering if I could get any keyboard recommendations at around $100 or less for a 60% or 80% keyboard (I only care about escape and arrow keys for 80%) with cherry MX reds or browns, or if someone could give a little input on the two I am looking at getting at the moment. I am choosing between this and this at the moment. Any input one way or another, or for another keyboard entirely is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

u/heyItsDubbleA · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Nice! I just tried out a few mechanical keyboards for the first time at fry's this morning, fell in love, and I've been shopping around for one all day!! Is this your keyboard? I was leaning towards this since it looks like a great intro 60% keyboard. Anything you don't like about it or would do differently? What's the significance of the PBT doubleshots? I just read up a little - they're more durable?

I ordered planck, and the hotswappable e-element keyboard on massdrop for my home use. I've been having fun with this cheap one in my offcie before it broke. (On the second week mark) Now I'm in for a new mech keyboard.

  • Looking for either cherry brown or clears.
  • Dvorak layout. (I have to enter bios password so key mapping isn't good enough)
  • Rather have a white colored keyboard since my office layout is bright colors. Not a must though.
  • No need for lighting.
  • Prefer 10 keys. But not a must, I can do without them.
  • Preferably under 100$, but can go over a bit.

Can anyone suggets me a keyboard?
u/ChimairaSpawn · 1 pointr/buildapc

the magicforce 68 is pretty much the best budget board out there. But if the idea of no F row turns you off, the Corsair k65 is on sale on amazon.com right meow.

u/Ophidios · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Well, if you're on a budget, there's the Magicforce 68 and the RK PRO104.

u/Capital_Offense · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Something like this maybe? It has Silent Red switches. I have a board with them and while they definitely are quieter, they don't feel that great to type on. I used them for programming for about a week and I found myself to be much slower. I would get a cheap Brown board if I were you and just test if the noise is acceptable. Something like the Magicforce 68.

u/baked-shrimp · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Yeah, this fits my price range perfectly, and I have no problem with Outemu switches, my only concern being the longevity, as people have said that the keyboard died after 1~2 years. Would this be a big issue? (I'm looking at the brown switch one btw: https://www.amazon.com/Qisan-Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce/dp/B01E8KO2B0/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8)

u/cyborgbear · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I've had a Corsair Strafe RGB for a few years and have liked it, but am realizing I don't really use any of the extra features (the software to set custom lighting is a major pain, and keeping lights on seems to produce a light buzzing noise in my headphones so I've just been keeping it off). Also, for the first time in 20+ years, I spilled a little onto the keyboard - was working fine until I removed the spacebar to wipe it up and replaced it, then it had a problem spamming space for a while (unplugged and left it for the night), then briefly holding another key, but seems like it works fine now.

ANYWAY: Magicforce 68 or Plugable from the buying guide, any suggestions? I don't care at all about a backlight and realistically I don't think I need the tenkey. The Magicforce one does look a bit silly but pictures with replaced keycaps look pretty nice. Open to pretty much anything, those two just looked like great value

u/Charles_Dexter_Ward · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

If a 68 is acceptable (separate arrow keys) I have had good luck with Qisan gaming keyboard

available with Cherry blue or Cherry brown switches.
It's a great mechanical keyboard for under $40.

u/my_knee_grows · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

That looks like exactly what I want. Looks like I can only get Gaterons with the backlit variant though (which is an extra $20). The non-backlit one looks like it has OUTEMU switches. Do you think I'd notice a big difference there? The video reviews make it seem like the OUTEMU brown switches are quieter than the Gaterons too which is another positive for me

u/Greenshardware · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

https://www.amazon.com/Qisan-Mechanical-Keyboard-68-Keys-Magicforce/dp/B01E8KO2B0/

So the basic 68 with browns is $40.
That first keyboard you linked is $30 more, and it doesn't have the switches you want... but it does have those caps and an aluminum top.

https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-Steampunk-Typewriter-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B076Q4JCNJ/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1540326644&sr=8-5&keywords=retro+keycaps

I know these are cheap and look so-so. But honestly I bet they last a lot longer than those printed and plastic chromed keycaps since they are doubleshot.

at $55 vs $70, it isn't really a huge deal long term though.

u/ddownham · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Hello all. Been poking around r/mk for the past week and, oh boy, I can tell I'm going to have a future problem ...

For now, I'm trying to find a first-time, cheap, pre-built keyboard that has arrow keys, been thinking about the MF68 or possibly DREVO Calibur 71, but don't love the arrow keys floating to the side. Are there any cheap (Let's say, under $65) that have the configuration like a Tada68 or Vortex Cypher.

I know it's tough to find everything you want without spending a little more money but wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something. Thanks!

u/chromaticf0am · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'm looking to get my first keyboard. I'm debating between this Magicforce and this Red Dragon

I don't know enough about my switch preferences to really gauge which one I'd like better for that reason. I also plan on getting custom keycaps so that's less of an issue as well. So, I'm really torn between the two. Which one would be a better fit for a newbie mechanical keyboard user?

The ugly branding on the red dragon turn me off a bit but I don't want to disregard the possibly better option for something silly like that.

u/LiliedHart · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I know Magicforce has a ton of fans on this sub.

u/ant51508 · 1 pointr/Keyboard

there are a lot of TKL (tenkeyless) mechanical keyboards for $60-100 like this one from cooler master. If you want something cheaper you can get one for $30-60 with generic switches, but I doubt you'll find something cheaper. there are also even smaller keyboards that keep most of the functionality.

Welcome! As with all deep hobbies, take a breath and enjoy a day or two of research before committing to too much. Honestly, just clicking around here on new posts for a day or two, and then heading over to /r/mechmarket/ and just clicking every new listing is a fine way to get started. I link that mechmarket because I've found it invaluable in learning what's what, and you're almost guaranteed to find exactly what you want there over the next week or so.

To answer your question directly, just like alose said, a Leopold or Ducky One will be great. There are many options.

A cheap(er) option is the Magicforce. I got one to try out a blue switch keyboard and was surprised how nice it is. You can get it in white with brown switches on Amazon. $40. Search for Qisan brown switch or just use this Amazon link (no affiliate BS, just linking you.)

Hey there, I'm looking to get into mechanical keyboards after mostly typing on laptop keyboards, and after some research on this subreddit as well as other websites that the Magicforce is my best bet for a beginner mechanical keyboard. However, I'm having trouble deciding between the Outemu blue and the brown versions. I really like the clicky tactile feel of the blues, but I also regularly play FFXIV while on Mumble, so that might annoy the people I'm talking to. I've also heard the Outemu blues are louder than the Cherry blues as well. Which one should I get? I realize switch preference is entirely subjective, but I'm just wondering if the blues are THAT much louder.

Hi everyone! I have a few questions about a few different things.

  1. I recently purchased a Salmon on Ice v2 keyboard (Whitefox PCB) as my first dive into custom boards, and though it sounds pleasant when typed with, it requires a huge amount of force to actuate when compared to the standard Brown or Red switch. I currently have an Akko 3068 and Varmilo VB87m (both with Brown switches) and both are so much easier to game/type on for extended periods of time. I wanted to lube the switches to see if that would help, so I bought this lube but I'm honestly terrified about taking the board apart since I spent ~$240 on it. I also tried some O-Rings, but they didn't seem to help much. Any suggestions or advice would be incredibly appreciated.
  2. I am also looking to get my girlfriend a board, and she wants something similar to GMK Samurai or GMK Bento keycaps; basically anything with secondary Japanese characters on the caps. Those probably go for ~150-200 for the set, so something cheaper with similar aesthetics is what I'm looking for. She wants a white casing, so I was going to go with this with some nice keycaps. Any recommendations on a cheaper/similar version of those keycaps, as well as maybe a better (or wireless) 65%/TKL base to use!

Sorry if it was a wall of text/unclear, but any help would be greatly appreciated :) I can answer any clarifying questions relatively quickly.
u/haelous · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

The important parts are the switches (and how they're mounted), the case, and the keycaps.

Here's some examples to give you perspective:

The Magicforce is an entry-level keyboard with clone switches.

The QFR's an example of an entry level keyboard with Cherry MX switches. The QFR-i is equal quality, with backlighting.

The FC750 is an example of a higher end keyboard with a Cherry MX switches, quality casing, and great PBT keycaps.

The VB87M is close in quality to the FC750, but has backlighting.
