I separate masks into the following categories. They aren't official, it's just what I use in my head.

  • Clay Masks: Example: Innisfree Super Volcano. These are made out of... clay, and are quite drying. Most people don't use them more than 3 times a week, and because of their rougher texture once they're dry they can be a mild to moderate form of physical exfoliation. Clay is meant to soak up oils, and it's popular to use in this three step temporary pore minimising routine.
  • Peel Off Masks: Example: Elizavecca Hell Pore clean Up Mask These are similar to clay masks, except instead of the clay soaking up oils, these masks dry into a tacky sheet and literally pull shit out with the adhesive nature of the mask. Marginally controversial because some people say that they stretch out your pores. The popular Biore pore strips would also fall into this category. You can use these as necessary, as with all masks, but I'm guessing most people use them up to three times a week? Maybe four?
  • Hydrating Wash Off Masks: Example: Innisfree Real Rose Mask These are meant to be temporary hydrating masks, that you leave on for anywhere between 10-60 minutes (the I'm From Honey Mask can be left on for a full hour) and is supposed to hydrate your skin before you wash it off. I generally don't like these very much because washing my skin dries it out, so having to wash my skin another time usually counteracts any benefits of the mask. You can use these as much as you want, just pay attention to your skin.
  • Exfoliating Wash Off Masks: Example: Skinfood Black Sugar Wash Off Mask This mask is... a wash off mask, and it has sugar particles that provide physical exfoliation. Your exfoliation routine depends on your skin, if you're using chemical exfoliation, etc. so I can't even guess how many times the average person would use this in a week, but basically use it like a scrub.
  • Traditional Sheet Masks: I say traditional because clay sheet masks are now a thing, but I'm talking about the cell or hydrogel sheet masks soaked in a usually watery but sometimes creamy essence. They don't need to be washed off, are worn from 15 minutes to an hour, and they hydrate your skin and the mask material itself helps the essence penetrate. These aren't usually drying so you can use these as much as you want to.
  • Sleeping masks/packs: Example: Mizon Good Night White Sleeping Mask These are nighttime occlusives that you put on at the end of your evening routine. They're generally not worn during the day time because most of them don't dry down well and wouldn't play nice under sunscreen/makeup. You can use these as much as you want.
  • Lip Masks/packs: These probably aren't what you're thinking of, but I thought I'd mention because they exist.

Talking about me personally, I use a sheet mask or hydrating wash off mask about every day and a clay mask 2-3 times a week. I use an exfoliating wash off mask around once a week and don't own any lip masks. Peel off masks.... Once every two weeks? Whenever I remember that I own one tbh.

personally, i like to double cleanse. so an oil cleanse (like the softymo) and then a second cleanser. in winter i use "the face shop rice water bright cleansing milk". the cosrx works for me too, but only in summer. it is too harsh in the winter when my skin tends to be dryer. i feel double cleansing removes sunscreen best, but some people are satisfied with just an oil cleanse. really comes down to what feels right to you for your face. if you wear makeup, especially any kind of foundation or cover up, i would definitely suggest a double cleanse to make sure you are really getting your face clean.

i prefer hado labo toners myself and they come in a variety of different types; i like the premium (in the orange bottle) best for my skin because i feel it hydrates very well.

imo, sleeping packs don't really need to be chosen to treat symptoms. since they go on last and are occlusive ingredients, they sit on top of the skin more than they soak in. certainly, buy one with quality ingredients, but imo it is more important that the things you put under the pack are doing the legwork of targeting your concerns. any pack will help with dryness because it is sealing in your other steps and the moisture from them. as for redness, people like products with niacinamide or honey. this is a popular choice for niacinamide and this for honey. i cannot answer your question about the snail cream unfortunately; i do not use snail products because i cannot get around the ick factor! but you can answer your own question easily enough; google for "what is an occlusive ingredient" or something along those lines. find a handy list of what kind of ingredients are occlusive and then you can check them against products you are considering for sleeping pack purposes.

I know the impulse is to do a big order to save on shipping, but I think it's also ok to do several smaller shipments. You can't use everything at once anyway. Ideally, you should be introducing new products little-by-little. Maybe one new product a week, so you can test to see if your skin likes it. Also, you can order samples of a lot of the more popular products, so you can test that way too.

Since your skin is only sensitive sometimes, I guess you'll have to decide how much you want to baby your skin. For me, I would want to choose products that are more for sensitive skin when there's a choice. But you might know better how much you need to do this.

For cleansers, I like the Banila Co. I have sensitive skin, and I am ok with the regular one. The Purity version actually has some herbal ingredients that I wasn't sure would work for me. The BioDerma water looks good, and I think it could work as your step 1 to remove makeup. Cleansing oils are nice too. You could get a few samples of these. DHC is olive oil based and should work for sensitive skin unless olive oil happens to break you out. (You might not know until you try.) The Innisfree, Skin Food and Face Shop cleansing oils are all pretty popular, but scented.

For toners, the Mizon is the one I've heard of most. It might be good for acne, but not sure if it will work for dryer skin. For masks, the Skin Food one is popular. There's a black sugar strawberry one that people like. For eye cream, I would go for the Kiehl's or Mizon because of the snails.

For treatment, I have the C20 Vitamin C but haven't used it yet. I would try to buy some samples of the Innisfree. Missha ampoule and essence are popular as well.

You might want to hold off a little on the AHA/BHA's until you get a settled routine and your skin is more moisturized. The Mizon AIO is not a real moisturizer from what I understand. It's kind of a treatment and goes on before your other steps. A little different. You can order samples of the Starfish Cream pretty easily.

Too Cool for School has a pumpkin sleeping pack that people like. Also, people seem to like Mizon Good Night Sleeping Pack. But Laneige is said to be nice too.

You might want to add in Hada Labo lotion. It's popular around here and works a little like a serum. Not a lotion as we think of it. You may need an extra lotion or cream at some point, but those are usually easier to find in non AB if you need. Have fun!

I enjoy using this product: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CZ28Z84/

It’s pretty multi functional too as a primer and night mask. And I felt that using it helped make my skin glowy over time.

Edit: this one’s also good as an occlusive: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GB1E940/

It's the Mizon Good Night White Sleeping Mask: https://www.amazon.com/MIZON-Night-White-Sleeping-fl-oz/dp/B00GB1E940

Smells like calming lavender, and has a very similar texture and effect as the Laneige mask. I'm actually surprised this worked so well for how cheap it was.
