I'm using the Morex 557 with the Noctua NHL9A cooler on my 2200G APU build. It's a little toasty but it's not so bad, about 70 degrees on load and mid 50s on idle. It has options for four 40mm fans on one side as well. I should probably mention that I'm on stock settings and have undervolted the CPU.

Good question! I'm building inside of a VESA mountable mini-ITX case. I tried to find one with really good ventilation.

Right now the Realan E-K3i is looking like the most cost-efficient option. But there's also a case from Morex that looks pretty good.

I'm looking to build a highly portable, VESA mountable workstation. The case I'm trying to fit it in is super tiny, with about 35mm room to mount a heatsink.

Here's some of the specs:

  • Gigabyte GA-H87 mITX board;
  • 120watt picoPSU;
  • Realan E-K3i mITX case or Morex case;
  • CPU: Core i7-4765T (35 watt);
  • Reycled Vertex 2 SSDs in RAID 0 (bad, bad idea..).

consider cases that require pico psu (ex. https://www.amazon.com/Morex-Universal-Mini-ITX-Fan-less-Compact/dp/B0087TS1S4?keywords=sff+case&qid=1537324710&sr=8-16&ref=mp_s_a_1_16) because cases supporting sfx psu are still quite big (looking at dan a4 sfx or dr zaber sentry)

I want to do this exact build, minus the case(I want to use a Morex 557 and a Pico PSU for the smallest off-the-shelf solution) but I've heard suspect things about this motherboard... I really like it though.

There are currently two thin itx AM4 boards, one Lenovo and one Chinesium board on TaoBao. I believe RAM speed is limited on each though, hindering your APU performance. Best bet for an APU is a mini itx x470 board with a little overclocking. My suggestion would be to look at customer photos on this amazon link for a visual example. Guy built a little gaming rig on a MITX board using a 2400g.

With regard to the Hades Canyon NUC, they're great little boxes. This can be extra attractive if you plan to hackintosh because the support is actually pretty good. The only caveat is they are not upgradeable. There has also been success using these with eGPU setups if that's your thing.

I was looking for news about the A8-7600 release date and stumbled on your post. I'm wanting to build a really small system as well, and the A8-7600 seems like the best mix of low power and graphics performance for a HTPC/casual gaming system if a discrete GPU won't be used. So if AMD could go ahead and release that I'd be pretty happy.

I have almost the exact same parts lists as yours actually, I think we've both done our research. I like your case as well, but I'm planning on doing a VESA mount to the back of a monitor. Psueo-all-in-one style. I've settled on the Morex 557, which might be something for you to consider. I'm thinking the 150W PSU should be enough for a build like this; I probably won't go lower, but theoretically it would be OK to get closer to 100 if you were only going to use the 45W setting. As for the RAM, I read a pretty good article that showed extremely minimal returns after 2133, 2400 was like 1% faster, so I was just going to get a set of 2x4 of the G. Skill Ares 2133 sticks. Hopefully we'll be able to get the parts purchased and build these things soon, I'm craving another build!

Damn at that price why not go with something like this and use the nh-l9a
