Not only does it cover a lot of stuff in that area (as well as PA!) it's a fun read with some wry humor interspersed throughout.
On the way down, I'd suggest skipping Skyline Drive. It's simply too slow and too crowded with tourists. The views from the Blue Ridge Parkway are just as nice and it's far less touristy so at least hit a portion of that.
