Thanks for the comments everyone, they were very helpful. I ended up getting:

AMD 3600X (the 3700X was $100 more)

32GB of Corsair LPX (crazy how cheap RAM is now, went with 32gb instead of 16gb)

MSI X570 Gaming Edge mobo

Came out to $630 with a free copy of BL3

I 100% did not care for this board. I tried to flash the bios to update because I was getting > 2-4 minute boot times and I never successfully updated. I tried to do a few things like switching to UEFI boot mode with no success. It could have been user error, but I’m not sure. I went with a little bit more expensive MSI board, changed to UEFI boot mode and she booted in less than 6 seconds right out of the box. I’m running a 3700x. You may get this board and never experience this problem. I’m just giving a heads up to be aware of it. I ended going up with the MPG x570 for about 70 bucks more I believe and didn’t have to update the bios, which is nice to be able to get what you want right out of the box. It’s nice to have the WiFi built in if you’re going to use it.

Hope this helps.

PLEASE do not let this ruin your decision n getting the motherboard you truly want. I am a simple customer with an opinion. Make sure to do your research.

These 2 are some cheaper good ones I found with a quick search.

The benefit to a better motherboard, is it comes with an 8 pin and a 4 pin connector for the cpu as opposed to cheaper ones with only an 8. This leads to better and more consistent power delivery to the cpu at higher overclocks.

As for the graphics card, look for anything with 2-3 fans or built in water cooling. They will be 20-30 more at the very least but the overclocks will make it worth it.

RAM for ryzen is a very important overclock too, 3200MHz C16 or 3600MHz+ ram are very good choices for ryzen. You can manually overclock past what it is rated for too.

Looking for some guidance on a cooling setup for my new build:

Here are the components:

Board: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T2FWCYG/

Case: Corsair Crystal X570
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LE0ZKR2/

GPU: EVGA 2080TI FTW3 Ultra (air-cooled)
https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-rtx-2080-ti-11g-p4-2487-kr/p/1FT-001K-003E4

CPU: Ryzen 9 3900X
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SXMZLP9/

What cooling setup would you recommend? Do I need to get a fan controller?

The case comes with 3 x 120mm fans, but I'd like to replace them with Corsair 120mm RGB fans for added control over the lighting.

I was considering a 6 x 120mm setup (3 fans up front, 2 top, 1 rear) but not sure if the motherboard can support that many fans (does the fan from the included CPU-cooler count toward the total?)... or if that's even an ideal setup.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you!

EDIT: Here are the possible fan configurations for the case, but I'm not sure what's the optimal configuration and what parts I'd need to wire them to the mobo

Wow, thanks for the explanations! Since I posted this I ended up switching from intel to amd and removed the cooler. How does this motherboard sound: https://www.amazon.com/X570-Gaming-Motherboard-AMD-Wi-Fi/dp/B07T2FWCYG/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 ? I also switched my GPU and PSU to what you recommended. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ggKbvW . What out of this would you recommend a switch up in, other than the monitor?

Sorry for the late response.

To answer your first question, task that benefit from the extra cores and threads in the 9 3900X, such as productivity, video editing, and rendering gives the 9 3900X its value over the 7 3700X and i9-9900k. In other task, such as gaming, the price increase from the 7 3700x to the 9 3900x wouldn't be as easily justifiable since many games don't benefit from more cores and threads, but higher single core performance and higher clock speeds.

To answer your second question, If you were willing to spend $210 on the Tachi, then a X570 motherboard in that same price range will already come pre-loaded with the BIOS update, and will have other features. If you'd want to save, look at that list and find a motherboard that would allow you to save more as all of those are great motherboards that them to be USB Bios flashed.

For example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T2FWCYG/?tag=pcpapi-20

Same price range as the Tachi, but has Wifi, power phase heatsinks, IO shields, etc. But a lot of the extra features aren't necessary and may not benefit you. Some motherboards on newegg can also be combo'd and save you an extra 20 or 30 dollars depending on the combo.

Check /r/buildapcsales for those.

If you would like more assistance, then tell me what you need help with. I will be heading to bed though, so I will answer as soon as I can in the morning. Have a great night!

I have the MSI X570 Gaming Edge Wifi and am really happy with it. You only get two M.2 slots but it comes in at $209.

My x470 turned out to have a bad memory channel, I did a ton of research and ordered a x570 yesterday. Don't have an old AMD chip anymore so couldn't do another x470 or b450.

This and this are both good options.

u/dregwriter · -1 pointsr/pcmasterrace

ahhh, I KNEW IT! I had a feeling it was because of the new PCI standard but I wasnt sure.

X570 is exactly what I bought.
