I believe I’ve read direct quotes from Kevin regarding drug use during certain periods. I can’t remember where I’ve read them exactly but if I had to guess I’d say it was in the 33 1/3 Loveless edition. Great book. It includes a lot of interviews with Kevin and information you can’t find elsewhere.

"We did everything solely with the tremolo arm; it's such a weird modification. It's difficult to do, and also so obvious, so no one else did that."

Loveless was recorded between 1989 and 1991. The first DigiTech Whammy pedal was released in 1991.
But I guess if some random guy you discovered with Google said he used a DigiTech Whammy pedal, that must be true.
It's enlightening, but essential reading is this - which, despite somewhat negative reviews for the whole journalism aspect, is probably the most thorough and fascinating insight you could ever possibly get learning about the band. It's a short read and utterly captivating if you like the band - or just the album - remotely.
It's also where my chinchilla joke came from, which nobody seems to have enjoyed :(... Shields is reported to have harbored hundreds during his bout of depression. Exaggerated..maybe.
its a bit of a shitty recording intentionally. and most of it is recorded in Mono. i recommend this read if you enjoy the album. its fast and pretty interesting and informative.
There's actually a 33 1/3 about that record.

Supposedly it has a fair amount of technical detail.
