Cable modem router, twc and Comcast certified.
Sorry if this is too late but definitely spring for the modem router combo, no real advantage to buying seperately. I got the C6300 from Netgear and haven't had any problems with it with Comcast's 150 Mbps plan
Just recently (within the past month) replaced my xfinity modem/router combo with the Netgear AC1750. I'm getting my full speed (105 mbps download) on both 5.0 and 2.4 wireless connections and no problem streaming any HD content or online gaming issues. And it boosted my wifi range throughout my townhouse.

One other question for you if you don't mind.
Is it better to go separate router and modem like r7000 and cm500 compared to the combo like this
This is the one I use with TWC. Works great!
