My BeagleBone Black is on "Debian Image 2014-05-14".
With this setup, keyboard and mouse works out of the box all the time. There were a few instances where it didn't connect to wifi right away. A reboot solved that.
~$20 and your problem will go away lol
But seriously, here's a cheap usb hub that will give you 4 extra usb ports and here's a good wifi adapter for cheap. I added a smaller wireless adapter under the one from amazon just in case you didn't want that thing sticking out
