Let me clarify as to what my device is. It is the Netgear N600 (c3700) DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem router. First available in 2014. NOT the old N600 router.

What you have there is a combined router and cable modem. Should be fairly easy to find a replacement (something like this, for example).

You could also get a plain router and connect it via Ethernet to your existing modem/router unit.

I don't usually like all-in-ones but the motorola surboard modems are the best, so I'd probably get something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-SURFboard-Gateway-SBG6580-Wireless/dp/B0040IUI46/

which is basically the surfboard modem with a router built in.

This netgear wouldn't be bad either.

If you plan on going with a triple play type service with phone in the future, you'll want something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/Arris-TG862G-Residential-Gateway-802-11n/dp/B008KRLZCW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406840138&sr=8-1&keywords=router+voice

but the cost is going to be higher.

That modem will not work with the 300Mbps service.. What it sounds like is happening that since there is no boot file for that modem to work with that speed plan, you are getting the default 25/5 boot file.

Your best bet is to get one of the retail modems listed as compatible with the Extreme 250 plan (such as the SB6183 or SB6190).. or switch to a rental and pay the monthly fee.

Basically, you need an approved modem that can handle at least 16 downstream channels.

I don't think so. You really should get dual band wi-fi. The Pace is only wireless N. You can get a modem/router combo that has that built in like...

http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Wi-Fi-DOCSIS-Cable-Router/dp/B00IF0JAYE

or a similar ARRIS

NETGEAR N600 (8x4) WiFi DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem Router (C3700) Certified for Xfinity from Comcast, Spectrum, Cox, Cablevision & more https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF0JAYE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_pOVJzb9RQ4YD3

I have this one. It wireless router and modem. It's only $100 so cheaper than $10 a month to rent and it goes up to 600mbps speed, I only have 100mbps. Range is pretty solid too.

u/karlo471 · 1 pointr/techsupport

Okay, thanks! Would you rather suggest to buy this and a modem, or just buy something like this? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF0JAYE?tag=price222-20&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

So you say duel band so it sounds like you are looking for a gateway. This is a modem router combo. You have a few options. If you buy of Amazon you could get this one. It's 200 but is a 3.0 modem with a duel band ac wireless router built in. Supports 24 downstream channels and 8 up. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZUPOF7Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_ZzWnzbRC6T09V

If you are looking to save some money you could get this one, it's 100 and supports 8 down and 4 up. This would work with the 150 Meg tier but I recommend getting the higher channel one to future proof yourself. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IF0JAYE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_PCWnzbFRR986G

Cox in my area does sell this one below. They charge around 170 or so for it( not sure don't quote me). On Amazon it's 180. It supports 32 down and 8 up. If you buy from Cox it has a 2 year warranty and they will come swap it out if it goes bad. It says on Amazon Arris gives it a 2 year warranty also but you would have to ship it to them I assume.

Stand alone modems are different because you need a router to plug into it to get wifi. If you are interested in a 3.1 modem prepare to spend around 200 for it. They don't make docsis 3.1 gateways yet that I know of. Cox doesn't even use docsis 3.1 yet in any market but will be kicking it on within a year or so in select areas. The docsis 3.1 modems that you can buy today are backwards compatible with 3.0 and support 32 down and 8 up. I know I talk a lot about the channels down and up. This is how many different cable channels the modem can connect to at once. More is better because If one gets congested it reroutes packets down another that isn't. This helps maintain speed even during peak hours and also how they deliver the faster speeds.

Cox also sells Arris stand-alone docsis 3.1 modems for 179.99 and it comes with a 1 year warranty through Cox. It has 2 Ethernet ports on the back. Don't be wierded out by that it's for multi gigabit services in the future and only one will work today.

If you have any other questions let me know and I will try to answer the best I can.

sorry, went to sleep. my router is a Netgear n600 wifi cable modem router.

u/DrewsChainz · 1 pointr/cedarrapids

I found a list of Mediacom compatible retail modems. I’d start here and see if there’s a compatible retail combo cable-modem that is also within your budget.

If none of the compatible modems listed suit your needs, then I’d call and ask if you can use the NETGEAR N600 WiFi Cable Modem Router.

u/yuckchan · 1 pointr/Comcast

Correct, I am in California.

My current modem is: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Wi-Fi-DOCSIS-Cable-Router/dp/B00IF0JAYE

I signed up for the package through the My Account -> Upgrade feature. Did not have to talk to any agent, though now that I'm bringing it up to the agents, they're acting like the package, as it was advertised, doesn't exist (although I still see it on the site today.)

u/jamvanderloeff · 1 pointr/buildapc

Seems you can't really get cable modem/routers without wifi anymore, so you'll get WiFi from it anyway. If you also want to keep your current router/AP (maybe in a different location for better range), set it to access point mode.

This should do fine http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Wi-Fi-DOCSIS-Cable-Router/dp/B00IF0JAYE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464146988&sr=8-1&keywords=docsis+router

u/mutatedferret · 1 pointr/Flipping

picked up 4 more cable modems from the goodwill down the road from me, all 4.99, this was one of them but had no box :(. 2 x sb6141, 1 x 6131 and 1 x netgear c3700

u/kageurufu · 1 pointr/gadgets

The SB6141 is just a modem, and the rt-ac68u would just be the router

If you want a single device, I beta tested this one: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-DOCSIS-Cable-Modem-Router/dp/B00IF0JAYE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1407791892&sr=8-3&keywords=netgear+gateway

It was decent, wifi range was just ok though

u/Reanimations · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

TPLink, Netgear, and ASUS are the best brands I know of. I always heard that Netgear is lenient towards gaming so that's why I went with them. The router I use is the C700. It's done me well so far. I haven't had any issues with it, and the interface is nice.

Idk if $101.99 is considered mid-range, so here's the router on Amazon.

Thank you so much for the reply. I appreciate it tons. Here are the answers to your questions:

Is this a modem you ISP has provided?: no, we were initially having issues with the ISP provided modem so we purchased our own (https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-DOCSIS-Cable-Router-C3700-100NAS/dp/B00IF0JAYE)
What kind of internet service do you have? (DSL,ADSL,FIBER) we have Time Warner Cable/Spectrum cable internet
How is your switch wired to the modem? (what port is it in?) Port #1. But, I have tried other ports as well without success.
Again, can't tell you how much I appreciate your input.

u/AsuraLancelot · 0 pointsr/HomeNetworking

I am using this one link, my internet speed is 150 mphs so would getting 1 Gbps would help me or is it just for future proof. Do you have any MoCa recommendation? Also just wondering, do I need 2nd modem to connect the MoCa from downstairs?
