My LO was born 7lb and 7oz and was drowning in all the 0-3mo clothes we had. We had to buy a bunch more NB sized stuff afterwards and he's still wearing them now at 2.5 weeks old, but half of them are going to be too small in the next week I think.

I like long sleeves with fold over mittens, prefer kimono style (gentler on the umbilical cord stump too) and just the snaps at the crotch for easy diaper changes at night compared to footed pajamas. If you do get footed pjs, I recommend zippers over snaps.
I haven't used any socks yet, because even the 0-3mo size are huge on my LO. They look like knee high baggy socks that just fall off. It's warm where I am, so we only use a light hat when we go out.
