After car accidents, waterfalls / drownings is the leading cause of death in Yosemite. I recommend Off the Wall: Death in Yosemite if you’re planning on spending much time there.

There is a common thread in both books among many of the cliff fall deaths that have occurred in Yosemite and Grand Canyon - that of people who think they're invincible. The person in this photo thought they'd get a great pic celebrating their accomplishment, but in all the stories of cliff fall deaths in both parks there's one common theme - the people who died were too close to the cliff's edge. Of course in this case he's fine and that's great, but as Ranger Mike Ghiglieri (the author of both books) told me the last time I was at Yosemite, the best way to not fall off the edge of Grand Canyon or any cliff in Yosemite is to "stay away from the damn edge."

Edit: Death in Yosemite...great book.

I read the Yosemite version of that book. Very interesting book. This book stresses that lack of common sense used by the visitors of Yosemite.
