>I don't see how he art is amazing, I've seen better on deviantart, and that's honestly extremely sad.

It's not just the art itself, it's also the art relative to the time period (the innovation of it). Also, if you think he was a bad painter, I seriously recommend you check out his self portraits, especially in person. one, two, three, and my personal favorite: four (looks a lot different in person, you can see little flecks of different color in all of his different strokes).

If you think this evokes no emotion and looks like a child's scribbles: link, then you're joking yourself.

Also, Guernica.

And another thing to consider is the impact of the work at the time. Economists have studied, for example, the impact of Guernica. Where a piece stands in history and how it affected subsequent works is very important. This book somewhat talks about this, and definitely goes in to the economic impacts of Guernica: link

Despite your warning I listened to the revisionist history episode about this called Hallelujah. Loved it!! Saving up to buy the original book it was based on. This makes so much sense for comics. To me someone like Burnham or Sloss = Cezanne & Louie or Burr = Picasso.

I agree good doesn’t equal successful but regardless of the talent the 4 years rule seems to hold steady. I should have specified - I’m talking about the big guns. The people who make it huge. The ones on my original list. Those types usually break in 4 or under.
