This guy has the right idea. If you want something to beat on, consider picking up something inexpensive like the Ontario Rat 2 that you can easily replace if you break it. I'd spend that $400 on a super nice EDC or two that you don't have to abuse.

If anyone wants to get someone an actual decent knife for EDC I suggest the Ontario Rat 2 Great knife that is cheap in price but very well made; it's easily one of the best options in that price point.

If you want to spend less than $50: Ontario RAT II Currently $26 on Amazon.

If you want to spend less than $100: Spyderco Delica 4 Currently $65 on Amazon.

They are the kings of their respective price ranges. The Delica steel is a definite upgrade from the RAT II, and the knife is much lighter and easier to carry.

They are both stunningly good knives for the money.

Are these what you're referring to - [Ontario Rat](https://www.amazon.com/Ontario-8848-Folding-Knife-Black/dp/B0013ASG3E/ref=pd_bxgy_200_img_2? amd the ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=8CAA01P0370Z040V1D22) and the Rat 2?

I would like a partially serrated blade but this looks great and have awesome reviews. Do you own on of the RATs and if so do they hold up pretty well?

Now I just need to find a good sharpening setup besides my 4 stone sets.

if you want to get better at sharpening, I would recommend getting 2 decently cheap knives, like an ontatio rat 2 and a cheap walmart buck knife, if you buy really cheap knives you might get frustrated with inconsistent heat treat, some knives forming burrs, some cheap knives not taking an edge right etc, go for a knife that has known good steel and sharpen, then cut the edge off, do something destructive with it like breaking a brick or cutting a circuit board and thrash the edge, then work on sharpening it back to a good edge.
a good knife with plenty of blade to practice
bear in mind too, that higher end steels have a higher wear resistance than cheap steels, the AUS8 in the rat 1 will take say 10 passes to completely form a burr on one side using a coarse arkansas stone, where as some thing like an 810 contego in CPM M4 will take 50 passes on the same stone to form a burr
