Nobody else has the colorful imagination, grasp of tradition, and unhinged joy at music-making that Mingus & Kirk share. There are plenty of records that would work: Volunteered Slavery, Rip Rig & Panic, Bright Moments, The Inflated Tear, Kirk In Copenhagen, We Free Kings - lots of 'em, and a couple nice compilations of the Atlantic years.
