As far as I can tell the Evergoods CPL24 in black is available now at both Evergoods' site and Huckberry. I'm a big fan of Evergoods, so if that is what you want go get it.

Now, for something that actually checks all of your boxes including price, take a look at the Osprey Porter 30. I have the larger 46 liter model from last gen (laptop compartment in front) and it is the definition of a cavernous clamshell. The newest models have moved the laptop compartment to the back, fixing one of my few complaints with the bag. External pocketing is functional but not excessive. The harness system is comfortable. Most importantly the quality is solid and the price is actually within your range. Buy it from amazon, try it, and return it for free if you don't like it. ;)

EDIT: This Black Diamond bag also checks all of your boxes and looks a bit closer to what you seem to prefer aesthetically. However I have no experience with either the brand or this bag in particular and reviews are scarce.

The Blink is my top rec, full clam shell easy to pack for travel, small enough for day to day, bottle pocket.

REI Ruckpack, also good option only top load but if you have packing cubes not a big deal to pack and unpack.

Osprey Porter 30 Old bacpacker standby, Bit big IMO, and the design is not great for day to day, but a great pack at that price.

We travel a ton. Probably 150 nights a year in a hotel for work and leisure. I’m very excited about super light weight options and have optimized the hell out of our equipment.

The biggest risk that few people will tell you about is that if you have more space, you WILL fill it. And then you’re schlepping the huge pack around and it sucks. So aim for small. Aim for super, super small.

And also, my other tip is try the damn pack on in person. Either order from companies with a great return policy and load them up at home and walk them up and down a few staircases and around the block. Or do it at an REI. But try it on. For a while. I have found, that even though Osprey is the best name brand in backpacks, for true outdoor backpacking/trail experiences, I cannot wear an Osprey bag. They just don’t fit my body.

For travel, it works for both my partner and I. We’ve got the Osprey Pack Porter 30 Travel Backpack. We borrowed the larger version and it was WAY too big. This one is small enough to be a carryon (if not overstuffed) even in the CanadaAir Regional Jet which has a stupidly small overhead bin. Also it has a way to hide the straps if you want it to look a little classy OR need to check it. (Straps get stuck on stuff in a check-your-bag situation.)

It’s a great bag. Honestly, at this point it’s too big for me - but I’m heading towards ultra light travel these days. Shirts that look good but which I can wash in a sink, etc.

If I was going to do it again, I’d go even smaller, probably something from Tom Bihn.

And if you want to read more about ultralight travel, I like this guy’s guide, it’s helped me immensely.
