On it's own, the kit lens isn't going to be that great for closeup shots. None of them are, no matter what camera you get. What you need is a macro lens since they have 1:1 magnification. These lenses let you focus much closer and they should help you out a lot on this.
If the macro lens is too much, I recommend at least getting a set of close up filter. Those will screw on the front of the lens and allow you to focus much closer. The image probably won't be as good as a macro lens, but for the price they'll get the job done.
As for the kit, if you need good audio go for the second one. Otherwise the first one has more useful accessories to get started with.
