This thing was supposed to come out in March, but looks like was delayed until July. I already have a Logitech remote, so I'm pretty excited once it arrives. It works with a number of different Logitech remotes.

I use my PS4 primarily with Vue as of late, and I agree, using the controller is not idea. I think this is the perfect fix for this solution and it's made by Sony and for the PS4.

EDIT: Licensed by Sony

My PS4 turns on and off with my Harmony Elite. All you need is this: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Receiver-Logitech-Harmony-Control-4/dp/B01K3VMBM0

Sony licensed an IR reciever made by PDP specifically for Harmony remotes to be able to control AND power on the PS4.

The Harmony Hub remotes will work today, the IR ones don't.

At least, not until March 31...

USB connection to the PS4, promises to map all 51 controller functions to your Harmony IR remotes (350, 650, etc).

> Will the harmony hub interface and allow me to command the echo to turn on my Apple TV or my PS4 along with the tv and receiver and switch back and forth?

Yes, but with a caveat. The Harmony Hub on its own can't turn on the PlayStation 4. In the default configuration, the Harmony Hub will connect to the PS4 via Bluetooth as a remote, but for whatever reason it is unable to send the signal to turn the PS4 on (it can put it into rest mode, although it uses a series of button presses to navigate the menus to get to the rest mode option from the main menu, and may or may not work depending on where you are when you request to turn it off).

That said, there is a Sony licensed third party IR receiver for the PS4 which can turn it on. You can in fact combine this IR receiver's controls and the Bluetooth controller built into the Harmony Hub to turn on the PS4 (via IR) and put it into rest mode (using Bluetooth commands).

> Also can I command it to launch Netflix,Hulu and Prime Video on my Apple TV?

You should be able to do this, although it is going to require some custom programming the Harmony app. You'll need to setup a new Activity for each, which not only turns on the devices you need and sets them to their correct inputs, but then sends the necessary button commands to the Apple TV to get to whichever app you want to launch. So long as you can always get to the app with the same series of button presses this works fine.

Hope this helps!

The problem you're going to have for the PS4, and maybe the PS3 I'm not sure, is that only the game controller and the PS4 Universal Remote can wake up the PS4 or turn it on. The Harmony remotes can control it but not turn it on.

There is a new IR Receiver for Harmony but I have no idea how good it is or if its even out yet. I was going through this exact problem with trying to watch Vue, Tivo and control my TV power and AMP volume. I eventually ditched the Tivo and got a Shield with HD Home Run and use a Harmony remote which works great, and save the PS4 for gaming.

Yupp. That plus the IR receiver. US listing

Actually you can turn on the PS4 with the harmony hub. PDP PlayStation 4 Adapter for Logitech Harmony

I have it and it works great.

Our prayers have been answered!!! Just upgraded to a harmony elite and I'm so looking forward to this!

Agreed. On my LG TV, it's called SIMPLINK. Works just fine to turn on the PS4.

There's also an upcoming product (available for pre-order) that is supposed to enable ALL PS4 commands (including power on) when used with a Logitech Harmony remote. Note that this product has been delayed a couple times now, so who knows when it will come out.

We do have the PDP Receiver coming out in a few weeks. Supposed to allow full power control.

Your right. Sorry about that. I deleted the link to the article. Late night last night... Looks like you could use this which says you can turn on/off: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Receiver-Logitech-Harmony-Control-4/dp/B01K3VMBM0

Is this the device you are talking about?

I'm able to turn my PS4 on with the PDP IR receiver. I just had to edit the startup command sequence to use the PS button on it.

u/umdivx · 1 pointr/hometheater

Actually the harmony hub can take full advantage/control of the PS4 via bluetooth.

There were some growing pains with it, but most of the kinks are now worked out and it works just fine.

The other option is getting the IR receiver module like this https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Receiver-Logitech-Harmony-Control-4/dp/B01K3VMBM0

AFAIK, the only way that you can "turn on" the PS4 via harmony is by using HDMI-CEC to wake it from a sleep state when its input is selected. That's not the same thing as powering it on from an off state, and while you can also cause the PS4 to sleep if another input is selected, that's not the same thing as powering it off.

There was eventually a $30 hardware accessory that allowed the PS4 to receive IR signals, including power on and off.

If something has changed I'd be very interested to know.

I think it is better to look at it from the perspective that Google Home uses the SmartThings(ST) Hub vs the other way.

ST works w/ zigbee and Z-wave. If you need to control those, you add the ST to google home and it connects wifi to those protocols. If you don't have any zigbee or Z-wave devices, it doesn't serve much purpose. Not sure if it is logical, other than for battery operated devices(wifi consumes more power) but I dislike wifi smarthome devices and get Z-wave or zigbee if possible. What type are your lights, switches or plugs?

My father has a Vizio P65-F1 and it supports Google Home.

If your model TV doesn't support Google Home integration using wifi, the only way to control it is by IR, via the a Logitech Harmony Hub or similar device.

The Logitech Harmony Smart Control (hub+remote) is often on sale for ~$50

With my Alexa, SmartThings and Harmony hub, I say: "Alexa, it's game time."

Alex responds: "Awww, yeah", dims the lights, sets the AV receiver and TV to appropriate modes."

The PS4 can't be powered on via Bluetooth keyboard so need to do that with my controller, but I am waiting for a sale on the PDP PlayStation 4 IR Receiver to fix that.

The Harmony page for the the Xbox One page indicates it can power off and on.

I've ordered this PDP IR receiver that's supposed to allow you to turn the PS4 on and use media controls, once it comes in I'm hoping it'll work.
