So I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this. If not just redirect me to the appropriate sub and I'll re-post there. Our cat just figured out how to open the doggy door so I want to build some kind of automatic doggy door opener that reads and RFID tag that I'll attach to the dogs collar, so it only opens for the dog. Right now have this kind of doggy door installed. I'm thinking of removing that spring loaded latch in the closing panel and attaching some kind of motor above the door so that when the RFID sensor reads the tag, the motor pulls the closing panel vertically up, and then returns it back into the tracks (sort of like this)
I've never really done a DIY project like this before but I feel like it shouldn't be terribly difficult. I have no idea if it will be of any use but I have a Raspberry Pi if that helps at all. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Any help would be much appreciated.
I'm studying Electrical Engineering so I know a bit about circuit design and some coding but to be honest this is the first practical project I've tried to tackle.
Thanks in advance.
