Melanie Spanswick has a series of two books for classical piano returners.

Hi. I'm also what I've heard termed recently a 'prodigal pianist'. I learned from being about 10 to 20 something then barely touched a piano for 20+ years. I started practicing against seriously about 3 years ago. For a long time, I just either re-learned pieces I could remember playing from before or tried things I'd heard on YouTube. However, I came across a set of books called 'Play It Again Piano' by Melanie Spanswick. There is a Book 1 and a Book 2 (Book 1 starting pretty much back from beginner level Book 2 from late intermediate). The great advantage to these books are that they are written from the perspective of 'reminding' you of things you learned before rather than trying to teach you from the ground up. They also feature a good variety of repertoire (both classical and more contemporary/popular). I highly recommend them. You can check out Book 1 here andBook 2 here.

I posted a video review of Book 2 that you might find helpful as it goes into quite a lot of detail of how the books are structured and works through an example using the first piece.

I would recommend this book as well as the second book, it's compiled by Melanie Spanswick a fantastic pedagogue it is specifically marketed for people that are returning to piano, it has a wide range of pieces within different styles beginning from grade 1 - grade 8 I believe the last piece of the second book is Rachmaninoff's famous prelude op 3 no 2 in C sharp minor. There are also practice tips along the way on how to practice the pieces, since you said you played for a while when you were younger I think these two books would be a great approach to get you back into shape instead of having to start from scratch via some adult beginner books.

Good luck my friend!
