A USB C dock.

Why not use something like this and just use an HDMI cable?

There are lots of options like this out there.

If you need something with a built in charger this is the one I use at home for my pixelbook.

60W+ charger is fine as long as it is well built.

There's a Pluggable USB-C mini dock UD-CAM for $119 on Amazon but it only has HDMI out. It might work with an HDMI to VGA adapter. it is compatible with Surface Book 2, you probably have to email them about the Go support to be sure.

Or just get an HDMI monitor.

Other USB-C Docks with VGA are more expensive.

I've been using this: https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Charging-Compatible-Thunderbolt-MacBooks/dp/B078J7FSWM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1539279240&sr=8-4&keywords=plugable+usb-c for work and its fantastic. Works consistently and I have my external HDD attached for automatic backups whenever I dock my matebook.

There is plenty of smaller cheaper docks than this one but what I liked about this one is 1. it requires no drivers, 2. does everything you need it to, 3. comes with a detachable (and relatively long) cable, and 4. comes with a mount so you can put it on the back of your monitor/ under your desk.

I got this one a few months back and I really like it. I only wish I had gotten a different model that supports two external displays since this model only supports one. Otherwise, it works great. I have a monitor, keyboard, speakers and a usb-a drive connected to it and I haven't experienced any issues whatsoever. It connects all of that stuff and charges my Pixelbook through a single usb-c cable.

Couple options depending on ports needed, thunderbolt 3 docks will also not have embedded cables

You might wanna also look at this one too? (Find another site that's in stock)

Not sure if 85 Watts would handle it, I know the Surface Dock is 65 Watts. (Could be wrong)

Edit: Nevermind, the Surface Book 2 is only 90 Watts, need at least 100 then.

This Plugable dock

Yeah I tried your method before, I couldn't get it to work either, I think USB C technology still needs some time to mature.

If you decide you want the convince of just plugging in one usb-c I would suggest this if your Mac or pc is powered off of the usb-c it’s all taken care of with in one cord.
