The theory of most non-western music tends to be aural, not written down, so in books you're probably going to be getting it from a western perspective. But I guess you're coming from there anyhow, so that should be OK!

Obviously because both cover such widely differing regions, they're pretty sketchy on any single culture, but for a beginner they should provide a good intro.
