Hahahaa few years ago one of my friends sold me his mflb for 20$ (it was in much worse condition than yours but 20$ is worth it every time for one of these). I still use it all the time, it's so amazing and great :)
And btw, just to save you the trouble when you realize you need new batteries, these are perfect. At one point I wasted 40$ trying to find good batteries, but these are cheap and work like a fucking charm. Have fun with your new MFLB bro <3

You can buy the batteries off amazon, and aren't stuck to just the batteries they give you/their brand. You can buy a pack of 4 for 10 bucks: (https://www.amazon.com/Powerex-MHRAA4-2700mAh-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B00A9KTPY8)
Magic Flight Launch Box.The lifetime warranty cannot be beat, neither can the customer support. The vaporizer itself is well built (In America!) and comes in multiple wood types and designs. Uses one AA battery. (NiMH rechargeable w/2000mAh+ capacity works. Label must be peeled off, it ships with two. Maha Powerex 2700 mAh recommended for heavy/daily usage) Vaporizes within seconds, great tasting hits, easy to clean (just brush it after every trench for a moment). There is somewhat of a learning curve to it, but one video later and you'll be good to go! Even better with the Power Adapter.
The gold batteries are great, but I'd also advise looking into non-mflb brand batteries. I've had a lot of success with Powerex, they last as long as the ones on the mflb site. You just gotta strip them which is a little annoying.

Plus they come with a nice case. The gold ones are great though, I'm using them now. Can't go wrong.

Got these about 2 months ago, work extremely well and having 4 batteries means you don't have to worry about charging much at all
There's no way to reverse battery degradation, however a new set of batteries are pretty cheap. I like to order from puff it up, here is a link to where you can purchase a new set of batteries!
Edit: You can also order a 4 pack on amazon

peel off the outside layer, remove the glue and you're good to go!

I personally enjoy my Powerex batteries more than the gold plated. I ignite a little bit longer when using my gold plated
I use the PA 2.0 with my mason jar bubbler or The Orbiter. I prefer to do long, lung filling, draws on the jar and the orbiter. Using water filters is great because my throat gets irritated really easily with the glass stem or native.
I haven't smoked since the day I got my MFLB (~2 months).
Last night I hit it with a battery and glass stem and was reminded at how much easier the setup was. Insert battery and you are good to go. I ordered 4 more batteries over the weekend so I am going to try to master native mode in the next month.
On any given day I vape about a trench to a trench and a half a day. Trench and a half usually happens if I have the whole day off and I plan on cleaning or gardening while thinking about space. I take 3 day T breaks when a trench and a half isn't enough to keep me at a [7] for the entire day (usually one break every 2 weeks).
I will make more animated gifs today of my daily routine (after I get off work in 8 hours).
-lifetime warranty
-generally sold now for about $80 (US).
-very stealthy
-SAVES MATERIAL! Smoking is a huge waste imo. The MFLB only uses like .1 or .2 Gs per trench. It only takes me one trench to get reasonably high, 2 to get higher, and 3 to get pretty damn high.
-of all the portable vapes out there, it is definitely the best bang for your buck as it works beautifully once you've gotten the technique down.
I suggest you buy extra batteries though. These will do perfectly... http://www.amazon.com/Powerex-MHRAA4-2700mAh-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B00A9KTPY8
The batteries are powerex
The charger is from amazon
haven't actually gotten a chance to use the batteries yet, but unless they're faulty, they should work just fine. I had to strip the wrapper off of the batteries and that was a little bit of work, used goo gone to take the sticky off.
Most people get more powerful third party batteries anyways.

Just strip the outside so it looks like the MF batteries.

my bad mate. I was on mobile.
These ones, you just have to peel the sticker off them before you use them but they are the same type of batteries that came with the mflb

These are the batteries I went with. They hold more of a charge, seem to be more powerful, and are less expensive. A lot of the reviews also say how well they work with the MFLB. All you need to do is peel off the wrapper and clean them. It took be about 10 minutes to peel all them off and clean off the glue with some 90% iso.
I bought these after mine fully died and they've been working great.
I use 4 glyphs and a 4 capacity powerex case
I had 4 powerex 2700 mA (http://www.amazon.com/Powerex-MHRAA4-2700mAh-Rechargeable-Batteries/dp/B00A9KTPY8) but those were too hot for me and I traded 4 of them for 2 glyphs
Edit: link for IST :P
get some 2700mah or 2400 batteries. there cheap on amazon

17mo is old by my standards :) i would recommend new ones:

Or:

While you can use most, 2700 mah is generally what you want.
I like these:(sorry, on mobile)

You can use rubbing alcohol to remove the adhesive residue that's left on the battery after you take the label off.
Some vapes have hidden long term costs. For example the MFLB batteries have to replaced after 500 uses. To get more, you have to pay $10 for 2 official ones or $13 for 4 Powerex ones.
If you don't want to shell out all that money for the power adapter, you can upgrade your batteries instead.
These ones are popular. Basically you just rip all the plastic off of them and then pop a rubber cap on the end and you can use it with your MFLB.
I use Powerex 2700 batteries.
Really all you need is NiMh batteries with at least 2000 Mah.

Also, after a certain period of time, condensation under my screen made my MFLB not heat really effectively. I know you say you're a broke college student... been there, trust me. But get good batteries, and a good charger. This is really the only option. If you use daily get the Energizer 15 minute charger, and the PowerEx 2700... The PowerEx even come with a great plastic case that holds 4 batteries.
